Season 5 will be that last for Bravo’s Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce, with the remaining three seasons totaling 19 episodes. “This 19 episode order across 3 seasons enables Marti [Noxon] to tell the story she envisioned for the characters she created without the constraints of season to season orders, fully realized through to completion,” said Frances Berwick, president of lifestyle networks at NBCU Cable Entertainment. “This also keeps the series relevant and top of mind for viewers with less waiting time between seasons.” The season 2 finale delivered a season high 1.2 million viewers in Live+3.

Fox wants to hit it out of the park with baseball drama Pitch. “Pitch Night at the Ballpark,” featuring events, meet-and-greets and a screening of the pilot episode on the scoreboard,  will be held in 43 Minor League stadiums and 12 independent college and summer league ballparks during August and September. Faced with customer losses in 2Q16 attributed to carriage disputes, Dish struck a multi-year renewal deal with Raycom last week that averted a blackout Raycom warned its viewers would occur if an agreement wasn’t reached by Thursday night. Days before, the satellite operator had come to terms with the NFL to bring back NFL Network and RedZone. Dish has also begun offering a skinnier bundle of channels, starting at $39.99/month. The new Flex Pack has over 50 channels, including AMC, CNN, Food Network, FX and USA.

TALK AT TCA

Winners of the 32nd Annual TCA Awards included The People V. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story for Program of the Year and Outstanding Miniseries, as well as Individual Achievement in Drama for Sarah Paulson; black-ish for Comedy; The Americans for Drama; Making a Murderer for Reality Programming; Mr. Robot for New Program; Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’s Rachel Bloom for Individual Achievement in Comedy; Full Frontal with Samantha Bee for News and Information, and Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood for Youth Programming. Since acting nominees are not split by gender, “This was truly a landmark season – not just for television, but for women in television,” said Amber Dowling, TCA president. “We had an unprecedented amount of female winners this year, which is a testament to both the talented actresses who were honored tonight, as well as to the growing number of high-quality roles being created for and by women.”

Nathan Fillion, late of ABC’s Castle, will recur in a story arc on season 8 of the net’s Modern Family, revealed Family co-creator/EP Steve Levitan at TCA. Fillion will play a local weatherman named Rainor Shine. Also guesting: Martin Short. Season premieres Wednesday, September 21.
The Mindy Project showrunners Mindy Kaling and Matt Warburton sung the praises of Hulu, which picked up the comedy after it was dropped by Fox. “The single best improvement in my life is working for people who are not having the forefront of our concern be the number of people who are watching,” said Kaling. Agreed Warburton, “It’s so short-sighted to look at week-to-week ratings.” Season five premieres Tuesday, October 4.

Hulu head of content Craig Erwich announced the streaming service inked a deal with Disney for over 500 episodes of kids content, noting that children’s programming subscribers have grown by 30 percent over the past three years. Erwich also revealed the initial lineup for Hulu’s Limelight documentary series, including a doc about 1996 flop-filled-with-future-stars The Dana Carvey Show.

NEW AND RETURNING SERIES

Synergy alert: ABC’s black-ish is filming the season three premiere at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, as Dre decides to give his family the vacation experience he never had as a kid. Jim Rash (Community) guests as a VIP tour guide on the opener Wednesday, September 21 at 9:30p.

Season three of History competition series Forged in Fire premieres Tuesday, August 23 at 9p, with a special champions edition. The launch is followed by back-to-back premiere episodes of new series Milwaukee Blacksmith, focused on a family practicing the 5,000-year-old craft, at 10p.

WGN America’s Salem returns Wednesday, November 2 (Halloween week!). Season three has the witches dealing with the fact that the devil they’d hoped would free them from Puritan hypocrisy has very different plans.

Rapper Jim Jones and on-and-off fiancee Chrissy Lampkin face a bumpy rode to the altar in new reality show Jim & Chrissy: Vow or Never. Series bows Thursday, September 1 at 10p on WE tv.

CASTING

Rachel Brosnahan (House of Cards) landed the lead in Amazon dramedy pilot The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, about a 1950s housewife who becomes a standup comic after her husband leaves her, reports Deadline.

Raymond J. Barry (Justified) will co-star opposite Cam Gigandet, Jeremy Sisto, Ray Winstone and Donald Sutherland in Audience drama Ice. The series about a family involved in the diamond trade is slated to debut later this year.

Real-life marrieds Megan Mullally (Will & Grace) and Nick Offerman (Community) will guest on season two of CBS comedy Life in Pieces, as brother and sister. Pieces picks up Thursday, October 27.

Tone Bell (Truth Be Told) nabbed a series regular role in Netflix comedy Disjointed. Kathy Bates stars.

Joelle Carter (Justified) has been replaced in the role of Jake’s (Scott Foley) bride on ABC’s Scandal with Jessalyn Gilsig (Glee), reports TVLine. The swap is due to Carter’s series-regular commitment to NBC’s upcoming spinoff, Chicago Justice.

ADVERTISING AND BRANDS

MasterChef will be the featured entertainment brand in the T-Mobile Tuesday app on August 9. T-Mobile customers who participate will receive a digital edition of MasterChef season six winner Claudia Sandoval’s cookbook, and be eligible for prizes including a MasterChef-inspired grilling set, a visit to the set of the cooking competition or – the biggie – a trip to the Caribbean on the MasterChef cruise in November. MasterChef airs Wednesdays at 8p on Fox.

Although NBC drew criticism on social media for the number of ads that appeared during the Olympics Opening Ceremony on Friday, a network spokesperson attributed the problem to evolving audience expectations, not an increased ad load. “As we did for London, we inserted a few more commercials earlier in the show so that we can afford time later in the show to present as much of the ceremony as we can, including every single country in the Parade of Nations,” the rep told AdWeek. “Given that the commercial load was very similar to London, we believe that consumption habits, such as binge-watching and ‘marathoning,’ have changed perceptions among the viewing audience regarding commercials.”

DIGITAL DOINGS

A collection of 12 original short-form movies in a range of genres debuted as “Free Period” on the Disney Channel app on Friday. Movies roll out daily on the net’s YouTube page through Thursday, August 18.
