Good morning. It’s Wednesday, August 6, 2014, and this is your first early morning Sports briefing.

OMEGA is going long, locking in a partnership deal with the PGA of America through 2022. The brand is already the Official Timekeeper of the PGA of America and the 2014 PGA Championship, will see the company continue to serve as Official Patron and Official Timekeeper of the PGA of America for another eight years beginning in 2015. The extended agreement also includes advertising on golf telecasts of PGA of America championship events, marketing support for the PGA’s player development efforts and support for PGA members and their facilities.

“We are delighted to extend our agreement with the PGA of America through 2022," said Urquhart.  “With our tournaments in Europe and Asia, OMEGA has long supported the growth of golf as a global game, and our involvement in the premier events organized by the PGA of America  including the much-anticipated 2014 PGA Championship  has given us a fantastic platform to develop the brand in the important American market.”

Aug. 14 will see MLB owners select from three final candidates for Commissioner, according to USA Today. The report states that they will select from among Rob Manfred, MLB’s COO; Tim Brosnan, MLB’s EVP of Business; and Boston Red Sox chairman Tom Werner.

ESPN Events released brackets for its owned and operated early-season basketball tournaments, which launch this year in November and run through the Christmas holiday. The five multi-day, destination events consist of the Gildan Charleston Classic, Puerto Rico Tip-Off, Wooden Legacy, Orlando Classic and the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic and will be shown across ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU and ESPN3. The bracket-format tournaments feature 12 games over three days and begins with the Gildan Charleston Classic on Nov. 20, featuring Akron, Charlotte, Cornell, Drexel, Miami (Fla.), Penn State, Southern California and South Carolina. This year’s Puerto Rico Tip-Off will also be on Nov. 20 with teams that include Connecticut, Boston College, Charleston, Dayton, George Mason, New Mexico,Texas A&M and West Virginia.

Nicole Briscoe will continue her work with ESPN after her current role as host of ESPN NASCAR Countdown wraps up this year. Briscoe locked in a new contract with the company and will serve as a SportsCenter anchor as well as taking on additional new assignments.

NFL Network offers four live Week 1 Preseason Games on the channel through the weekend, beginning with the 49ers/Ravens on Aug. 7 at 7:30p – with Ari Wolfe and Kurt Warner calling the action from NFL Network’s studios – followed by Cowboys/Chargers at 10:30p. Aug. 8 will see Saints/Browns at 8p and Aug. 9 will feature Browns/Lions at 7:30p.

ESPN Deportes debuts its new monthly show Reportajes Especiales tomorrow at 7:30p. The show, launched off of a SportsCenter segment, will continue to offer “investigative reports on sports and in-depth features on athletes, uncovering the inspiring stories yet to be told.” Luis Alfredo Alvarez will host the show. According to the release, episode one will profile Joe Gaetjens, a US soccer scorer whose legacy vanished due to one of the cruelest dictatorships in history. The show continues with the story of a young Mexican man who discovered that sports could lead to his freedom and wraps up with the story of Nick Pugliese, an American soccer player whose passion for the sport led him to an unexpected destiny.

FOX Sports 1 offers the MotoGP World Championship on Sunday as it hits its second U.S. stop for the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix at 2p. Host Bob Varsha leads the FOX Sports 1 broadcast team, with Ralph Sheheen providing play-by-play, Hall-of-Fame rider Scott Russell offering analysis and Jenny Taft reporting from the pits.

PBS series Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates, Jr. will focus on three athletes when it returns for season two starting Sept. 23 at 8p. Derek Jeter, Billie Jean King, and Rebecca Lobo will all take part in the series this year, along with various other celebrities.

Campus Insiders announced plans to live stream a special Big 12 Conference forum, hosted by Commissioner Bob Bowlsby. The forum, entitled “The State of College Athletics” is scheduled to take place in New York City on Wednesday, August 6, beginning at 4p and will feature a panel from the world of college athletics and sports media, with discussion focusing on college athletics and its place within the context of higher education.

NFL Players Inc., the marketing and licensing arm of the NFL Players Association, locked in a deal with Stylinity, the first social commerce platform designed to make Selfies shoppable. The licensing agreement that will allow NFL players to share their fashion styles on social media and enable fans to purchase their favorite “looks” simply by clicking on products in the photos.

ROSTER MOVES

The Women’s Sports Foundation named Deborah Slaner Larkin as its CEO. Larkin brings over thirty years of executive experience in corporate, government and non-profit leadership, serving most recently as the executive director of the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Foundation from 2010 through March 2013. "The Women’s Sports Foundation is an exceptional organization at the forefront of girls and women’s sports. Through its researched advocacy, the Foundation promotes participation and quality programming, and educates the public on the important educational and social benefits of sports participation that prepare girls and women to be leaders first on the field and later in the board rooms in the U.S. and globally. I’m honored for the opportunity to come home again," she said in a statement. The foundation recently announced the collective contribution of over $2 million from NBC Sports Group, ESPN and FOX Sports.
