Good morning. It’s Monday August 1, and this is your first early morning Sports briefing.

Just ahead of the Summer Olympics in Rio – and facing a flurry of headlines that range from athlete safety to doping – IOC President Thomas Bach addressed the media on Sunday to address the global event. Over the weekend, the organization announced plans to

delegate the final say on the acceptance of entries of Russian athletes to a Review Panel that will be composed of three IOC Executive Board Members: Ugur Erdener, Claudia Bokel and Juan Antonio Samaranch.

“In these difficult decisions you will never have a 100% majority. These are complicated and complex questions on the legal and moral side,” he said, noting that 4,500 urine tests and a thousand blood tests would be conducted during the event. “What you should not forget is the broad support that the IOC executive board has for this decision. The McLaren report revealed a system which is an attack on our Games and an attack on our values but you cannot deny the right of athletes to attempt to prove their innocence.”

ON THE AIR

Thursday saw Bill Hancock, Executive Director of the College Football Playoff, move off Dec. 31 as a traditional date for the CFP semifinals with a shift in scheduling the contests in years 5, 6, 11 and 12 of the rotation that will see all semifinals games played either on Saturdays or holidays. “We tried to do something special with New Year’s Eve, even when it fell on a weekday. But after studying this to see if it worked, we think we can do better,” he said. “These adjustments will allow more people to experience the games they enjoy so much.”

Due to weather conditions, NASCAR’s Pocono 400 Sprint Cup race will now run today on NBCSN with coverage resuming at 10:30a.

NFL Media announced that reporters Jane Slater and Courtney Fallon would be joining the networks ahead of the new season. The will both contribute to NFL Network, NFL.com and NFL Now, beginning with NFL Network’s Inside Training Camp coverage. Slater will be based in Dallas and joins from ESPN where she was a studio anchor and sideline reporter for the Longhorn.

The NFL denied that it had sent presidential contender Donald Trump letter calling the upcoming debate schedule (which includes two that are scheduled on the same nights as NFL games) “ridiculous.” An NFL spokesman tweeted Saturday that "While we’d obviously wish the debate commission could find another night, we did not send a letter to Trump."

The information-sharing agreement will see the pair “work together against the manipulation of competitions related to sports betting in order to protect the integrity of Olympic events” through the SportIM service. “In 2013, we launched our Intelligence Betting Integrity System to collate alerts and information on match manipulation and, ever since, we have further optimized the mechanism,” said Paquerette Girard Zappell, the IOC’s chief ethics and compliance officer, “We have identified responsible organisations that can assist our global effort to prevent corruption and are delighted about our new partnership with Genius Sports.”
