Good morning. It’s Tuesday, July 29, 2014, and this is your first early morning Sports briefing.

In a move of the “two great tastes that taste great together” variety, FOX Sports Digital and Sporting News Media announced a cross-platform content, distribution, and media partnership designed to bolster each company’s “ability to offer the most comprehensive digital sports video and editorial coverage across the web.” The new alliance is projected to reach an estimated 55 million plus digital sports fans every month. As part of the deal, the two companies will share content and traffic across its top sports properties, including FOXSports.com, SportingNews.com and Goal.com. The new comScore entity will be called “FOX Sports Digital  Sporting News Media.”

In addition, the two companies will develop joint digital video programming and editorial content, joint sales offerings, as well as expand upon each party’s native advertising executions. FOX Sports Digital will also distribute FOXSports.com and FOX Sports 1 video content via the Sporting News ePlayer platform, extending the reach of FOX Sports Digital’s exclusive off-network video opportunities.

ON THE AIR

ESPN locked in a new seven-year agreement with the Pro Football Hall of Fame to present the annual Enshrinement Ceremony, with the deal kicking in this year and running through 2020, which marks the centennial anniversary of the National Football League’s inaugural season. This year’s ceremony will be shown on Saturday at 7p on ESPN2. Trey Wingo hosts with NFL analysts Tom Jackson and Chris Mortensen and reporter Sal Paolantonio. Chris Berman will again emcee the ceremony. “The Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Ceremony is a signature event that honors the sport’s all-time greats and each year helps officially kick off the start of the new season,” said Burke Magnus, Senior Vice President, Programming Acquisitions. “ESPN has a proud history of presenting this celebration of the game of football and we are thrilled to extend our relationship with the Hall of Fame with this new long-term agreement.”

ESPN also picked up Michelle Beisner, who will be joining ESPN as an NFL features reporter. Starting in September, she will contribute player profiles and other stories for ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown pregame show. Since 2006, Beisner has served as a studio host and field reporter for NFL Network.

CBS Sports has a new deal with the PGA TOUR that expands the pair’s broadcast partnership. The deal will see PGA TOUR Entertainment offer special programming that will run on CBS Sports Network during the weeks of the CBS Television Network’s broadcasts of the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational and The Barclays. Overall, four 60-minute recap shows as well as four half-hour “countdown” shows, entitled PGA TOUR Presents The 9… will hit the schedule. Two tournament recaps and two countdown shows will air twice on CBS Sports Network during each tournament week.

Turner Sports tees off on coverage of the 96th PGA Championship from Aug. 7-10 with 18 hours of action including six hours each day on Thursday and Friday, Aug. 7-8, from 1-7p and live coverage of the third and fourth rounds on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 9-10, from 11a-2p. Overall, Turner Sports will provide nearly 100 hours of original programming from Valhalla with commentators that include Ernie Johnson, analysts Ian Baker-Finch and Billy Kratzert, with Vince Cellini handling pre- and post-round interviews. PGA.com, managed by Turner Sports, will offer extensive coverage of the event including live streaming via PGA Championship LIVE, with three options that include the Marquee Group, Par 3 and Press Room.

A judge has ended Donald Sterling’s bid to keep the Clippers, ruling that the proposed $2 billion sale of the team can proceed because Shelly Sterling followed the guidelines set in the trust’s governing documents. “We are pleased that the court has affirmed Shelly Sterling’s right to sell the Los Angeles Clippers to Steve Ballmer. We look forward to the transaction closing as soon as possible,” said NBA EVP, Communications Mike Bass in a statement.

Multiple reports, led by TMZ, that Spike TV will be dropping TNA Wrestling when their deal expires in October. TMZ writes that the channel informed TNA President Dixie Carter of the decision and the promotion is now looking for a new TV home. TNA Wrestling debuted on Spike TV in 2005.

Boxeo Telemundo Ford opened its season with a bang, nabbing its most-watched telecast in history. The show scored 641,000 total viewers on Friday, July 18 at 11:35p, according to Nielsen.

MLB Network is offering 31 hours of live studio programming leading up to Thursday’s 4p non-waiver trade deadline, including a five-hour MLB Tonight: Trade Deadline Special starting at 11a on July 31. MLB Network insiders Jon Heyman, Ken Rosenthal and Joel Sherman will have live cameras positioned inside their offices at MLB Network throughout the day on Thursday. Throughout the day on July 31, MLB Network will produce an on-screen social media ticker that will display the latest news from MLB Network’s insiders and reporters throughout the league and tweets including #tradedeadline.

NFL AM turns two years old tomorrow and the network announced new talent to mark the occasion. New hosts Rhett Lewis and Erin Coscarelli made their debuts on July 14 and will be joined NFL Network analysts Eric Davis and LaVar Arrington. The first show featuring the foursome will take place on a special Saturday edition of NFL AM on Aug. 2 at 6a, the day in which the 2014 Pro Football Hall of Fame class is enshrined in Canton, Ohio. From January  June 2014, NFL AM is up 5% in US HH rating from 2013 and up 6% in HH impressions from 2013. Also, in the first half of 2014, NFL AM is up 10% in viewers over 2013.

EPIX announced a new documentary, Forgotten Four: The Integration of Pro Football, that will make its World Premiere on Tuesday, September 23, 2014, at 8p. The 60-minute special, narrated by Jeffrey Wright, tells the story of Kenny Washington, Woody Strode, Marion Motley and Bill Willis  who broke the color barrier in pro football in 1946. EPIX is teaming with the NFL to celebrate the achievements of the Forgotten Four with local screenings in NFL team markets across the country, followed by panel discussions on the current state of race relations and athletics.

Shark Hunters returns to NBCSN with new episodes and new crew members featuring three East Coast shark tournaments and five captains pitted against each other to catch the heaviest shark. The six-part series premieres tomorrow at 9p on the network.

NFL.com revealed its fantasy lineup for the upcoming season, offering NFL-managed leagues where “users can compete for a trip to Super Bowl XLIX to fully customizable user-managed leagues.” The NFL Fantasy mobile application has been completely rebuilt and redesigned for the new season, allowing full-season play, including joining or creating a league, drafting on the go, setting a lineup or adding a player from free agency, in-game video highlights, advice, etc. NFL.com Fantasy Football will offer video game highlights along with access to teams on Xbox One, Xbox 360, DirecTV & Madden.

ROSTER MOVES

WWE named Barry McMullin as Senior Vice President of Sales & Partnership Marketing. McMullin previously held senior level sales positions at Professional Bull Riders, Wasserman Media Group, the National Basketball Association (NBA) and the Salt Lake Organizing Committee for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. He will now be responsible for providing strategic vision for WWE’s global sales operation and WWE® Network sales strategies, as well as ensuring revenue growth is aligned with company objectives.

Tough Mudder announced that Dan Weinberg is returning to the organization to run the global partnerships department as Vice President of Partnerships where he will oversee all sponsorship, licensing and merchandise.
