Good morning. It’s Monday July 25, 2016, and this is your first early morning Sports briefing.

Twitter continued its blaze of sports video partnerships, announcing a digital media rights partnership with Campus Insiders that will include live streaming of more than 300 college sports events. The deal follows other recent partnerships for Twitter that includes the Pac-12 and the NBA (along with Thursday Night Football). The new agreement will see Twitter carry Campus Insiders’ live college games with line-up of football, basketball, lacrosse, soccer, baseball, volleyball, field hockey, water polo and swimming.

Cynopsis Sports asked

ýDana Golden, EVP of Business Development at Silver Chalice, about the growth of Campus Insiders, its new deal and the future of the ACC Digital Network following the league’s new deal with ESPN.

Golden on the 2015 season: There are a few key takeaways I can share. Mobile audience growth continues to explode at a rapid pace. Just looking at our Campus Insiders audience for the first half of 2016 compared to 2015, mobile traffic made up 32% of total audience in 2015 compared to 75% in 2016. Then, if you break down where the mobile audience is coming from, over 60% in 2016 is coming from social media. While our audience continues to grow year over year, we are paying closer attention to the audience source and device used to make sure our content is available on the right platforms and optimized for the best experience.

On the year ahead: Our goal continues to be serving our Conference partners and their fans. With that, we want and need to experiment with new digital platforms, while balancing our business needs as well. Last year, we launched a "Live Game of the Day" series on Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire and Xbox and saw great initial success. I suspect we will continue to dive deeper into those types of streaming media devices in a lean back experience. We are also actively working on new partnerships in OTT subscription services. The distribution partners we are speaking with are very interested in our live and VOD content portfolio and the flexibility we offer as a digital service.

On the Twitter partnership: We have had a terrific partnership with Twitter that dates back several years and we work together with their sales team as an Amplify partner. Our social media team uses Twitter faithfully every day to converse with college sports fans. With the partnership already in place and news of Twitter’s NFL deal and interest in streaming sports, the conversation naturally developed into how we could further work together. Given our portfolio of over 3,000 live games and the wide range of sports we deliver, it was just a matter of framing up the business parameters.

On the impact on the ACC Digital Network following the ESPN deal: No impact at all.  Silver Chalice and Raycom Sports will continue to partner to deliver the ACC Digital Network to fans of all the ACC schools, teams and athletes across the country on the most popular and strategic digital platforms.  This coming school year, the ACC Digital Network will once again serve up over 2,000 news, highlights and original videos that tell the stories about the great teams of the ACC.

ON THE AIR

Less than two weeks before the Rio Games, IOC officials declared that Russian athletes, following doping scandals with the country’s federation, would not be allowed to compete in the Rio Games unless they were able to convince specific sports federations of their innocence. Antidoping authorities had been pushing for an outright ban on athletes from the country, but the decision will now mean that that Russian flag and some of the country’s athletes will participate in the games.

Major League Soccer will see the 2016 AT&T MLS All-Star Game carried in Cuba for the first time as part of the league’s international distribution deals that will see the game carried in record 166 countries and territories this year. MLS announced an agreement with the Cuban Institute of Radio and Television (ICRT) to showcase the summer event on TV and Radio in Cuba on Thursday against Arsenal FC. ICRT will be promoting both the game as well as the Oct. 7 United States international friendly against Cuba.

New Orleans appears to have a solid lead as the new home for the 2017 NBA All-Star Game, following the NBA’s decision to leave Charlotte because of its limitations on anti-discrimination protections. The AP reports that the league and city are "deep in negotiations" to stage the game there for a third time. Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards has said in a statement it would be an "honor" to have the game return to New Orleans.

Meanwhile, the NCAA is now sending questionnaires about potential discrimination laws to organizers in cities looking to host sanctioned college sports events. Cities interested in hosting future NCAA championships are expected to outline how they will protect participants and spectators from discrimination. “We are committed to providing a championship experience within an inclusive environment for student-athletes, coaches, administrators and fans,” said Mark Lewis, NCAA EVP for Championships and Alliances. “With the Board of Governors’ direction, we are taking steps to assure that anyone associated with an NCAA championship event will be treated with fairness and respect.”

Finally, the 2017 PGA Championship will stay in Charlotte, despite the PGA of America’s objection to North Carolina House Bill 2, according to Golf Channel. The tournament is slated to be played at Quail Hollow Club. "The PGA of America strongly opposes North Carolina HB2. It contradicts our commitment to create an inclusive and welcoming environment at our events. We remain hopeful that the law will be changed," the PGA said in a statement. Meanwhile, the PGA TOUR also announced that it would keep upcoming events in the state, despite its objections with HB2, noting that its four Tour, PGA Tour Champions and Web.com Tour events currently slated were “conducted at private facilities and not subject to the conditions of HB2.”

European soccer staple Paris Saint-Germain locked in a three-year sponsorship agreement with Anheuser-Busch InBev that will see the two entities activate the partnership in the US and Europe. DIGITAL & STREAMING

Last week’s coverage of The 145th Open ranks as the most-streamed event ever on Golf Channel’s Golf Live Extra. Coverage reeled in 58 million minutes with 600,000 unique users, also a record for an event on Golf Channel.

ESPORTS

With season one of ELeague nearing its climax, the eSports entity revealed its plans following this week’s championship. The outfit is teaming with FACEIT, the world’s leading independent competitive gaming platform, to produce The OverwatchOpen tournament that will feature an online phase run by FACEIT for European and North American teams, as well as Regional and Grand Finals, that will take place at Turner Studios’ ELeague arena in Atlanta. The Grand Final will be presented live on TBS, with simultaneous coverage available via Twitch. “This opportunity to feature Blizzard’s popular Overwatch further expands our eSports offerings and aligns ELEAGUE with a game that is widely embraced by the community,” said Craig Barry, EVP and Chief Content Officer, Turner Sports. “We look forward to bringing the same level of production and storytelling capabilities we’ve demonstrated throughout the first season of ELeague to this championship event.”

The International 2016 will see the prize pool for the Dota tournament top $18 million, according to the Dota 2 prize pool tracker website. Valve initially provided a base prize pool of $1.6 million, with fans able to purchase in-game cosmetic items that would see 25% of its sales add to the prize pool
