FXX is making the most of its landmark The Simpsons deal. Starting Tuesday, September 2, the animated comedy will air in fringe, primetime and late-night dayparts on weekdays and weekends, with themed mini-marathons from 4p-8p leading into Sunday’s 8p broadcast on Fox. FXX is also launching "Simpsons World," featuring branded content through SimpsonsWorld.com and handheld/connected devices via FXNow, in October; viewers will be able to access every episode, and curate personalized playlists. "Our goal was to create the deepest digital archive of any show ever," said FX president of marketing and on-air promotions Stephanie Gibbons. And as previously announced, the net will air 25 seasons – 522 episodes – of the animated comedy in a row, 24 hours a day for 12 days starting Thursday, August 21.

IN THE NEWS

ABC correspondent Paula Faris is joining the Good Morning America Weekend anchor team, replacing Bianna Golodryga, announced ABC News president James Goldston in a memo to staff. Golodryga is leaving to join Yahoo as news and finance anchor – but it’s not goodbye forever. "Because of our great partnership with Yahoo!, she will continue to appear on our air and will contribute frequent reports to the Yahoo-ABC News Network," said Goldston.

Netflix reported that total streaming members went over the 50 million mark, and U.S. members topped 36 million, up 570,000 from March. In a letter to shareholders, the video streaming company also expressed its determination to keep Internet service providers from "holding our joint customers hostage with poor performance to extract payments from us, other Internet firms, and other Internet transit suppliers."

Any chance CBS CEO Les Moonves regrets plunking down $275 million for the rights to Thursday Night Football, debuting on the net September 11? "We pay a lot of money for football, and we make a lot of money on football," Moonves told TV writers last week. "This is a sure thing."

Telemundo launched a campaign aimed at encouraging students to pursue education in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM). The year-round effort will include on-air public service announcements featuring Noticiero Telemundo‘s anchor Jose Diaz-Balart and reporter Vanessa Hauc as its official education champions, and the distribution of thousands of backpacks to students across key markets.Telemundo is also celebrating "Education Week" with a series of special segments in its network and local newscasts, and its public affairs program, Enfoque con Jose Diaz-Balart.

The Country Music Association and Music Choice are partnering to promote CMA content, starting with CMA Music Festival: Country’s Night to Rock, airing Tuesday, August 5 at 8p on ABC. A CMA Music Festival category will be available on Music Choice Video on Demand, and Music Choice Today’s Country Music Channel will feature a CMA Music Festival block August 3-5 from 6p-8p.

The Casting Society of America is accepting submissions for the 30th Annual Artios Awards in the categories of TV, theater and new media. Awards will be handed out during a bicoastal event January 22, 2015. Details here.

PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

BSkyB acquired a 70 percent stake in Love Productions (Great British Bake-off). "This is a significant step for our growing international content business," said managing director, content Sophie Turner Laing. "Love is one of the U.K.’s most innovative and creative independent producers with a track record of success across a range of genres, both in the U.K. and globally."

COMING UP

Fusion anchor Jorge Ramos will be at the U.S.-Mexican border for today’s special edition of America with Jorge Ramos at 10p, a close-up look at the journey of unaccompanied children fleeing their home countries. Ramos’s reporting will also be featured on ABC’s Good Morning America, World News and Nightline. Fusion is a joint venture between Univision and Disney/ABC TV.

Two-night miniseries Houdini, starring Adrien Brody (The Pianist) as the legendary escape artist, airs on History Monday, September 1 and Tuesday, September 2 at 9p. The Lionsgate/A+E Studios co-production co-stars Kristen Connolly (House of Cards) and Evan Jones (The Book of Eli).

Contestants had better be handy with a hammer DIY‘s newest renovation show. Homeowners can have a room or two totally redone on Sledgehammer, but only if they can completely gut it in 30 minutes. If not, it’s clean-up time. "Risky, yes – but the payoff could be great," says host Jason Cameron. Series premieres Wednesday, August 6 at 10 and 10:30p.

TCM celebrates the film career of James Garner, who died July 19 at age 86, with a marathon of 12 of his movies on Monday, July 28. 1956′s Toward the Unknown leads things off at 6a.

Velocity‘s Garage Squad comes to the rescue of beloved but beat-up autos – like a ’66 Ford Mustang whose owner hasn’t been able to drive it since the steering came off in his hands while he was driving. Series premieres Friday, August 1 at 9p.

Tyler Posey (Teen Wolf), who picked up the Male Summer TV Star award at last year’s Teen Choice Awards, will be hosting the whole shebang this year. Canada’s Magic ("Rude") and English boy band Rixton join previously-announced Jason Derulo as performers on the broadcast Sunday, August 10 at 8p.

BRANDS & ADVERTISING

Fred Armisen is starring in a new digital video/social experiment for Heineken, which has the Portlandia star anonymously calling NYC pay phones to see who picks up. Most surprising? "That anyone spoke to me at all," Armisen told AdAge. The campaign from Wieden & Kennedy encourages people to enter their phone numbers at RoutineInterruptions.com to win rewards that will "inspire them to try something new."

Discovery Channel is swimming in marketing partners for Shark Week. Southwest Airlines is offering exclusive content onboard flights; LUSH Fresh Handmade Cosmetics launches limited edition Shark Fin Soap on July 30; Cold Stone Creamery serves up "Shark Week Frenzy" and "The Great Blue Cupcake" treats through August 19; in-salon co-branded signage will appear in Great Clips, also donating to shark conservation efforts, and Georgetown Cupcake will offer custom Shark Week cupcakes in stores and at Discovery.com. Summer event returns to Discovery Sunday, August 10 at 8p.

RETURNING SERIES

Fargo is coming back to FX for a second installment with a new cast, a new time period and a new "true crime" story. Not changing? Exec producer and writer Noah Hawley. Count John Landgraf a fan. "Noah’s audacious, bordering on hubristic riff on my favorite Coen brothers film earned 18 Emmy nominations – the most for a single program in our history," said the CEO of FX Networks & FX Productions in making the announcement. "Fargo was nothing short of breathtaking."

Also back on FX: Louie. The Louis C.K. observational comedy will have a seven-episode season five, slated for a spring 2015 premiere. The series scored five Emmy nods, including best comedy. "Louie’s fourth season was once again groundbreaking. Sometimes hilarious, sometimes heartbreaking – always thought provoking," said Landgraf.

Veterinarian Jan Pol is back making house calls on Nat Geo WILD‘s number one series, The Incredible Dr. Pol, starting Saturday, August 23 at 9p. First projects: a guinea pig castration, starving piglets and a calf with a dislocated hip.
