NBC, Universal Television Alternative Studios and Jennifer Lopez’s Nuyorican Productions are hitting the floor with a 10-episode order for World of Dance. In partnership with World of Dance, the series will feature performers vying for a prize of $1 million. "This will be a fierce talent-heavy dance competition that embraces the raw emotion and excitement that dance represents," said Lopez. "I’m excited to work with World of Dance, an organization that has had an immeasurable impact on the dance community, to give all dancers an enormous platform where their dreams can be realized."

The Telemundo News team is traveling to Cleveland and Philadelphia to produce six special programs, covering the top moments of the presidential nominating conventions. Noticiero Telemundo anchor Jose Diaz-Balart will lead the reporting team. Coverage will include four special Telemundo programs with live coverage of Wednesday and Thursday nights of each convention (July 20-21 from Cleveland and July 27-28 from Philadelphia) at 11:30p, and live Spanish-language broadcasts of Donald Trump’s and Hillary Clinton’s acceptance speeches on NBC Universo on Thursday, July 21 and Thursday, July 28, respectively, at 10p. The speeches will also be available in Spanish and English on the Telemundo News mobile app and online at NoticiasTelemundo.com.

Reports remained conflicted regarding the state of Fox News chief Roger Ailes. A deleted tweet from influential conservative media commentator Matt Drudge noted that the chairman and CEO was stepping down and included an exit document. However, an official statement insists that’s not the case. “Roger is at work. The review is ongoing. And the only agreement that is in place is his existing employment agreement,” says a rep for parent company 21st Century Fox.

Sony Pictures Television has acquired a minority stake in Swedish production banner Palladium Fiction, led by Henrik Bjorn, Filip Hammarstrom and Johan Rudolphie, the creators of mystery-noir drama Jordskott. Palladium will concentrate on high-end international dramas, with SPT handling international distribution.

Dog behaviorist Cesar Millan and his son Andre Millan are road-tripping across America in search of dogs and their humans who need help and want to share their story in Nat Geo WILD’s new series Cesar and Son (wt). From canine heroes to unsolvable pooch problems, no pup is off limits.

Beginning July 20 HITN-TV will be expanding its presence in the US Hispanic market via CenturyLink Prism TV. The network will air on Channel 3055 for subscribers of CenturyLink Prism TV’s ‘Paquete Latino.’

A+E Networks Lifetime Movie Club, the network’s first direct-to-consumer subscription service, is now available to purchase as an annual subscription. Lifetime Movie Club grants subscribers access to a library of Lifetime Movies without commercial interruptions for $3.99 a month after a 1-week free trial and is now available on Roku, iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, and Amazon Streaming Partners Program.

PRODUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT

TV One has renewed Rickey Smiley For Real for a third season. The comedic docu-series continues to post double-digit gains and is currently outperforming its first season across all total and key demos. “The consistent growth of Rickey Smiley For Real demonstrates the strong connection our viewers have with Rickey’s lovable family and laughable team,” said D’Angela Proctor, Head of Original Programming and Production for TV One.

Power ratings for the Season 3 premiere of Power have led to a two-season renewal for the Starz series. The show’s Sunday debut garnered 2.26 million viewers, the cable net’s best original series debut numbers yet and the most-watched episode of any Starz original ever.

AMC has struck an extensive multi-year deal with comedian Chris Hardwick, which will see him host and EP multiple programs for the network over the next three years. Hardwick will continue as host of current and new “Talking” live after shows, including Talking Dead, Talking Dead: Fear Edition, Talking Saul and Talking Preacher. “There is simply nobody better than Chris Hardwick at doing what he does,” said Joel Stillerman, President of Original Programming and Development for AMC and SundanceTV.

COMING UP

Actor and former NFL player Terry Crews returns to his Michigan roots to champion a revitalized Motor City in Travel Channel’s Celebrity Adventure Club on Saturday, July 23, at 10a. The second in a series of specials, each hour-long feature hands the camera to a star as he or she travels around the world.

UP celebrates “Christmas in July” this Saturday, July 23, and Sunday, July 24. The themed programming weekend includes Christmas episodes of fan-favorite series, like Growing Pains and Gilmore Girls, and Christmas movies, as well as a sneak peek of new original movie Merry Christmas, Baby, which premieres later this year.

KCETLink Media Group has announced its August lineup of films for KCET and Link TV‘s flagship documentary series Link Voices. They include Searching for Sugar Man, Revolution Green, West of Memphis, The Paw Project and Food Fight. Viewers can tune in to Link Voices beginning Wednesday, August 3, and every Wednesday at 9p on KCET in Southern California and on Link TV nationwide.

RESEARCH

According to just-released GfK MRI research, binge viewing is more than mainstream; it’s prevalent, with almost 6 in 10 (57percent) TV viewers saying they regularly watch three or more episodes of the same show in one sitting via streaming, DVR, VOD or TV marathons. Regular binge viewing includes 14 percent, who “usually  binge all or most of the time;” 18 percent, who “frequently  binge more than half the time;” and 25 percent, who “sometimes  binge about half the time.” Millennials are among the most prolific bingers, with 53 percent saying they binge view more than half the time they watch TV. Millennials are more likely than average viewers to say that live TV has become more of a special event for them (16 percent, index of 152) and that binge viewing makes them feel more connected to the shows they watch (32 percent, index of 143).

DISTRIBUTION AND CARRIAGE

Z Living has signed a deal with AT&T U-verse to deliver the health-entertainment network to U-verse subscribers nationwide. Carried in both SD and HD in U200, Z Living is now available in approximately 40 million homes. “We are thrilled to be in business with AT&T U-verse as Z Living continues on a growth trajectory fueled by our significant investment into high-quality, original programming as well as innovative strategic partnerships,” said Z Living General Manager Rafe Oller.

TLC’s Love at First Kiss, from the producers of The Bachelor, bows Wednesday, August 3 at 10p. The reality series breaks singles’ boundaries by having them kiss a total stranger to find out if one smooch can lead to everlasting love. If either of the pair feels a spark, he or she can head to a two-minute speed date, which could lead to a date in the real world.

INSP has set a premiere date for State Plate. The culinary travel series, hosted by Taylor Hicks, debuts Friday, October 21 at 9p. Announcement was made by Doug Butts, SVP of Programming at INSP.

Buddy Valastro and his family return to TLC for an eighth season of Cake Boss on Tuesday, August 23 at 9p. Surprise visits from old customers and milestones occurring within the Valastro family will be featured this season.

The best kid cooks in the country compete on new Food Network series Food Network Star Kids, premiering Monday, August 22 at 8p. Hosted by Tia Mowry and Donal Skehan, the show features 10 talented junior finalists participating in a variety of culinary, on-camera and social media challenges over six episodes.

Bad Girls Club: Social Disruption bows Tuesday, September 20 at 8p on Oxygen. Leaving their numerous followers behind, the fierce females will have their patience tested as they drop their devices and confront their issues head on. Fans can catch a casting special on Tuesday, September 13 at 8p to meet the ladies before they officially move into the house.

The X Factor UK returns to AXS TV for the third consecutive year, when the net premieres Season 13 of the music competition series on Sunday, August 28 and Monday, August 29 at 8p. The new season features Simon Cowell and marks the return of judges Sharon Osbourne, Nicole Scherzinger and Louis Walsh.

Showtime Sports will chronicle Florida State University’s quest for the 2016 College Football National Championship with all-access documentary, A Season with Florida State Football. The series brings viewers behind the scenes and into the lives of the Seminoles with weekly 30-minute episodes throughout the 2016 season. Show bows Tuesday, September 6 at 10p.

CASTING NEWS

GSN named Garcelle Beauvais (Hollywood Today Live, Spider-Man: Homecoming) host of new competition series Window Warriors. The show brings art and commerce together as window designers are challenged to conceive jaw-dropping displays each week.

T.R. Knight is heading back to Shondaland. The former Grey’s Anatomy star has landed an undisclosed, recurring role on The Catch. ABC series is slated to return midseason.

KID STUFF

Power to The Powerpuff Girls. The show has been renewed for a second season by Cartoon Network. The series premiere in April won the night in all key demos, garnering more than 81 million views across multiple platforms, and picked up its first Emmy nom as Outstanding Short Form Animated Program.

The premiere of Elena of Avalor, the animated series introducing a princess inspired by diverse Latin cultures, will air two consecutive episodes simultaneously with limited interruption on Disney Channel and Disney Junior on Friday, July 22 at 7p. The television event also includes a telecast of animated feature Frozen 5:15p and a first-look at the animated short-form series LEGO Frozen Northern Lights and a scene from upcoming Disney feature film Pete’s Dragon.

Bottersnikes & Gumbles is headed to Netflix. The animated series is set to make its 26-episode debut on Tuesday, August 16, in 17 languages worldwide, with the exception of Australia and the UK, which will launch on Netflix in 2017.

DIGITAL DOINGS

Making a Murder will return to Netflix with new episodes. Executive producers/directors Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos are in production on new episodes of the documentary series. New installments will take viewers back inside the story of convicted murderer Steven Avery, and his co-defendant, Brendan Dassey, as their respective investigative and legal teams challenge their convictions and the State fights to have the convictions and life sentences upheld. The episodes will offer exclusive access to Avery’s new lawyer Kathleen Zellner and Dassey’s legal team, led by Laura Nirider and Steve Drizin.

Deadline reports that 1998 Olympic gold medalist Tara Lipinski is teaming with producer Michael Shamberg and writer Jonathan Igla (Mad Men, Masters Of Sex) on a new drama for Hulu. The series will offer a behind-the-scenes look at the intense world of figure skating.

GLOBAL GOINGS ON

HBO Asia has begun production of The Psychic, its first original TV series to be made in Taiwan. The six-part coming of age story is about a girl who can see spirits. Series debuts in early 2017 across 23 territories on HBO, with subtitles where relevant.

Quintus Media has secured several sales in Europe and Canada with content from independent German TV production company MAXIMUS FILM GmbH. The company has pre-sold Giant Constructions  The World’s Most Spectacular Bridges to German news channel N24 and documentary Behind Bars: The World’s Toughest Prisons to Discovery Southern Europe for the territories of Spain and Italy.

Holloway: Women Behind Bars from true crime specialists Woodcut Media debuted in the UK on A+E’s Crime and Investigation channel on Sunday, June 26 to outstanding ratings. The special attracted an increase in viewership of 439 percent on the CI prime time average and 226 percent on the slot average. The uplift led CI to become the number one factual channel in the 10p slot. It also attracted a significantly younger average viewer (47 vs. 57 years) and a 6 percent rise in female viewership.

CBC has renewed Still Standing and Baroness Von Sketch Show. Produced by Frantic Films in association with CBC, both series will return in 2017. “We are thrilled to announce that Baroness von Sketch Show and Still Standing will be returning to next year’s primetime line-up, “said Sally Catto, General Manager, Programming, CBC Television.

Fueled by the double finales of Eva La Trailera and La Esclava Blanca, Telemundo ranked as the #1 Spanish-language broadcast network in Friday prime 7-11p, with an average of 1,669,000 total viewers and 702,000 A18-49, according to Nielsen. Eva La Trailera averaged 1,718,000 total viewers and 691,000 A18-49. La Esclava Blanca averaged 1,709,000 total viewers, and 770,000 A18-49.

The fifth season of NBC Universo’s Larrymania delivered its highest non-sports premiere with A18-49, since the network launch, according to Nielsen. The reality series averaged 95,000 A18-49, a triple digit growth in the period (up 280 percent), and out-paced the premieres for season four (up 23 percent) and season two (up 27 percent). The episode also averaged 113,000 total viewers.

Season 2 of Nickelodeon’s Shimmer and Shine is off to a strong start, posting double-digit gains over its first-season levels with kids 2-5 (up 38 percent) and total viewers (up 64 percent). The show’s July 13 premiere was the day’s number-one telecast across all TV among kids 2-5 and girls 2-5, and the series ranked among the top 10 preschool shows across all TV for 2Q16.

Among the new strips in first-run, rookie champion Crime Watch Daily (0.8, steady) widened its lead on the freshman field to a 33 percent advantage as second place FABLife (0.6, down 14 percent) declined to a new season low.

Family Feud (6.8, down percent) dominated the game shows for the 11th consecutive week. Wheel of Fortune (5.3, down 9 percent) slid to a new season low and landed in a tie with Jeopardy (5.3, down 5 percent).

Live with Kelly (2.6 live plus same day national Nielsen rating, up 4 percent from the week before) celebrated the 4th of July holiday session ending July 10 by topping the talk shows for the sixth week in a row. Kelly was the only talker in the top five moving up from the prior frame and led the genre among W25-54 with a 1.2 in the key demo.

Sunday’s episode of Food Network Stars ranked second in its 9p timeslot across all ad-supported cable, posting a season high 9 rating A25-54 (860,000 IMP), up 19 percent since its May premiere. To date this season show has been seen by over 31 million P2+ viewers.  Overall, Food Network was ranked fourth for Sunday night among all cable.

Hallmark Channel’s original world premiere movie A Perfect Christmas delivered a strong performance on Saturday, July 16, as part of the network’s popular annual “Christmas Keepsake” programming event. The movie averaged a 2.1 HH Rating and 2.3 million Total Viewers, becoming the #1 HH rated non-news program of the day.

The flagship Scripps Networks Interactive brands saw double-digit ratings increases in primetime (P25-54) for Saturday, July 16, with HGTV landing at #2, Food Network taking the #6 spot and Travel Channel ranking #12 in cable for the night. HGTV recorded a 27 percent lift, Food Network had a 20 percent increase and Travel Channel saw a 45 percent jump year-over-year. Top shows of the evening included HGTV’s House Hunters Renovation and Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.

Simulcast on Nickelodeon, Nicktoons and TeenNick, Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Sports 2016 on Sunday, July 17 scored its highest K2-11 and K6-11 ratings to date, boasting double-digit increases among Kids 6-11 in particular. Kids’ Choice Sports 2016 posted a 4.6/1.3 million among K2-11 (up 5 percent over last year’s show) and a 6.1/1.1 million with K6-11 (up 11 percent). The show also scored 2.5 million total viewers across Nick’s TV platforms.
