Good morning. It’s Thursday July 14, 2016, and this is your first early morning Sports briefing.
NBC Sports Group locked in for the first two months of the 2016-17 Premier League season, with a slate that spotlights all 60 matches beginning Aug. 13 at 7:30a on CNBC with Hull City/Leicester City. Overall, NBCUniversal outlets will offer a minimum of six games each week in the season’s first two months across NBC, NBCSN, and CNBC, with all games preceded and followed by Premier League Live pre- and post-match shows. This season’s lineup includes 10 Friday afternoon matches beginning with Manchester United/Southampton on Aug. 19 at 3p on USA. Matches will also be telecast in Spanish each week on Telemundo and NBC Universo and streamed on NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports app.

FOX Sports is adding to its college football postseason lineup with the addition of the 15th annual Foster Farms Bowl, which will now run on broadcast television for the first time ever. The 2016 game kicks off on the FOX broadcast network and in Spanish on FOX Deportes on Dec. 28 at 8:30p pitting teams from the Big Ten and Pac-12 conferences. “We are incredibly pleased to add the Foster Farms Bowl to what is already our best-ever college football schedule,” said Larry Jones, Executive Vice President, Business, FOX Sports. “We look forward to working with the San Francisco 49ers on this great event and to showcasing two terrific college football teams from two outstanding conferences.”
Univision Deportes saw the inaugural Balon De Oro de la Liga Bancomer MX awards show on Saturday ring up 829,000 Total Viewers 2+ and 410,000 Adults 18-49, according to Nielsen. Sunday’s SuperCopa MX match between Chivas/Veracruz averaged 871,000 Total Viewers 2+ and 421,000 Adults 18-49 to double last year’s offering.
NBC Sports hired Heather Cox on a full-time basis beginning with the 2016 Rio Olympics, where she will serve as the volleyball reporter. Among her duties will be to join the sidelines for NBC’s new Thursday Night Football series and will work on Golf Channel as a news reporter on select golf events.
Meanwhile, ESPN Radio voice Marc Kestecher will now serve as the lead play-by-play commentator for the NBA on ESPN Radio beginning with the 2016-17 NBA season. He will join analysts that include Jon Barry, PJ Carlesimo and Kara Lawson to call regular-season, All-Star and playoff games, while working with Hubie Brown on the NBA Conference Finals and the NBA Finals. Kestecher will continue to call NFL, college football and college basketball games on ESPN Radio, and will remain as a studio host for a variety of ESPN Radio programming, including the pre- and post-game shows for the College Football Playoff Semifinals and Championship. In addition, he will work select ESPN TV events.
Fight Network announced today TNA Wrestling’s flagship program Impact Wrestling will move to Thursday nights at 8p starting July 21 across Canada.
Tennis Channel is adding a third television court to its coverage of the Citi Open in Washington, D.C. starting Monday. The addition will give the network more than 35 live matches during the tournament and another 47 matches on its digital subscription service, Tennis Channel Plus. Each day of the tournament will feature pregame showTennis Channel Live at the Citi Open, with the first four days of the tournament seeing live match blocks from 1:30-11p.
Pac-12 Networks’ Pac-12 Football Training Camp will hit the road to visit all 12 campuses as part of its new season, beginning with the USC Trojans on Aug. 8 at 9p. Shows will feature new practice footage, demonstrations with on-air talent, features, mic’d up coaches and interviews with coaches and student-athletes with Mike Yam hosting.

The NFL will pull back from marketing fantasy football to children ages 6-12, according to the AP. Last season, the league marketed fantasy football on its youth-driven NFL Rush Fantasy website and app, offering cash prizes and game consoles to contest winners. "We are pleased that the NFL has agreed to make these changes, and young children will no longer have a financial stake in the outcome of its games," said Josh Golin, executive director of the Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood. "It is also good news for parents that the league will no longer enlist teachers and schools in an effort to get children into the habit of playing fantasy sports."

Yahoo Sports overhauled its site this week, offering users new designs that include a simplified look, a “Yahoo-consistent” news-reading experience and redesigned live box scores with in-line tweets. “The new designs will create a more consistent experience on Yahoo across all platforms with an emphasis on content, communities and utility,” said Michael La Guardia, Senior Director of Product for Sports & Finance for the company in a post. “These changes will pave the way for more updates throughout the coming year.”
Whistle Sports saw its first round streaming of The Tournament draw over 1.8 million views this weekend via Facebook Live. The event also reached over 40 million Facebook accounts and had over 64,000 engagements, according to the company. "Social media is about immediacy, engagement and connection. Broadcasting the tournament on Whistle Sports’ pages via Facebook Live will give our millions of fans across the globe immediate access to 64 amazing TBT teams who are all competing for a two million dollar grand prize," said Jeff Urban, President & Co-Founder, Whistle Sports.
