IN THE NEWS

Longtime Fox News host Gretchen Carlson filed a lawsuit on Wednesday accusing network CEO and chairman Roger Ailes of sexual harassment and retaliation. Carlson, let go on June 23 when her contract was up, claims her dismissal was the result of having rebuffed advances from Ailes nine months prior. Carlson, who also alleges she was denied “fair compensation, desirable assignments and other career-enhancing opportunities” in retaliation for her complaints of harassment and discrimination, is suing Ailes, not the network.

The CW is airing the entire first season of Supergirl, plucked from CBS for season two, this summer. Starting Monday, August 1, two episodes will air each week until the superhero drama starts its sophomore run on Monday, October 10 at 8p.

Uncle Buck star James Lesure announced via Twitter that the freshman ABC comedy has been canceled. “Disappointed. No more @UncleBuck. Thankful to have worked with  @ABCNetwork. Proud of what we’ve done,” Lesure said on Wednesday, one day after the freshman finale delivered 3.2 million viewers and 1.0/4 rating among A18-49.

Baywatch is back. Pop struck a deal with FremantleMedia International to air 176 episodes of the soapy lifeguard drama, launched over July 4 weekend. The cult classic has aired in over 148 countries; a Baywatch movie starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Zac Efron is slated for next summer.

Tony Dokoupil moves from MSNBC to CBS News as correspondent. Dokoupil, author of memoir “The Last Pirate: A Father, His Son and the Golden Age of Marijuana,” will report for all CBS News broadcasts and platforms beginning next month.

Outdoor Channel is making some moves. Swapping Monday timeslots for Thursdays are Legends of the Fall at 7p, Whitetail Freaks at 7:30p and Hunt Masters at 8:30p. “We have taken a new route for some of our nightly programming, for example positioning Monday evening to be outdoor lifestyle and adventure focused,” said Outdoor Sportsman Group Networks CEO and president Jim Liberatore. “We want to do the same thing with some of our other nights’ programming blocks. Thursday’s theme is ‘Calls of the Hunt,’ and this is a better fit for these WildComm shows.”

Was five-part ABC/ESPN documentary O.J.: Made in America, coming on the heels of FX’s The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, too much of a good thing? Hardly, says branding and insights firm TruthCo. “2016 may well be remembered as the year that TV obsessed over O.J. Simpson,” says TruthCo.’s July’s Show to Know report. “However, instead of inducing O.J. fatigue, this pairing demonstrates dominant culture’s strong appetite for multiple perspectives on a single narrative, as finding many ways into one story reflects the environment of endless commentary that we’ve grown used to in the internet age.”

Daily half-hour strip Page Six TV, produced by the New York Post, Endemol Shine North America and Fox Television Stations, will be hosted by comedian/actor John Fugelsand (McEnroe). The gossip show starts a three-week test run in New York, LA, Philadelphia, Dallas, Atlanta, Detroit and Tampa Bay on July 18.

Roberto Escobar, brother of late drug kingpin Pablo Escobar, wants a look at season two of Netflix drama Narcos. The series chronicles 1980s drug lords and law enforcement efforts to stop them. Labeling it a “formal, friendly request,” Escobar said in a statement that the series “is depicting me, my life, my family and my brother. I think nobody else in the world is alive to determine the validity of the materials, but me.” Escobar registered successor-in-interest rights to the Escobar family name in California in 2015.

Together with Rushion, we decided to empower some of our nearest and dearest celebrity friends to share this journey in their own voice, in their own hometown and to provide children and families with resources and facilities to further build their foundation,” said Samuel L. Jackson of his first unscripted project. “This is about connecting with the community where we became the people we are today and sharing that journey with audiences across America.”
