SAG-AFTRA and producers reached tentative agreements for film and television production. "We have established an industry-wide, basic cable agreement – something we have wanted for two decades," said union president Ken Howard. "We’ve also secured a very competitive wage package for members and a large bump in our pension, health and retirement contributions." The old deal, set to expire June 30, will remain in effect during the ratification process.

WE tv announced the launch of In Between, an online-based series that keeps viewers up to speed on what’s happening to the stars of its unscripted shows off-season. "In this age of fragmented viewing, we are constantly looking for innovative ways to keep viewers engaged longer," said Marc Juris, WE tv president. "In Between not only bridges seasons but also seamlessly connects our linear and online audiences, giving them a platform to continue the conversation year round." Five weeks into what was supposed to be a 12-week run, CW canceled Famous in 12. The reality show, about a family’s fame campaign guided by gossip engine TMZ, earned a .2 rating/1 share and 520,000 viewers its last outing. Arrow repeats slip into its Tuesday-at-8p slot.

A post on Chris Colfer‘s Twitter Thursday claimed the actor had been let go from the cast of Glee "due to personal reasons." Not so, insisted 20th Century Fox Television, blaming the post on a hacking attack: "Rumors of his dismissal from Glee could not be further from the truth. We love Chris and look forward to working with him again this season." Also hacked: Colfer’s co-star Lea Michele who, despite a Twitter post on Friday, is not expecting.

Allegations of sexual assault led to the exit of Clarence creator Skyler Page at Cartoon Network. After a female artist went public on Twitter with claims that she had been assaulted, a rep for the network said Thursday that Page was no longer an employee.

Fox Broadcasting Company and the NYTVF are switching it up for the seventh iteration of the FOX-NYTVF Comedy Script Contest: this year, only alumni from previous competitions need apply; the winning selection will be developed for pilot presentation. Community is alive and well and living on Yahoo. The cult fave comedy, canceled by NBC after five seasons, has been picked up for a 13-ep sixth go-round by Yahoo Screen. Dan Harmon, for one, cheered the development. "I look forward to bringing our beloved NBC sitcom to a larger audience by moving online," said the comedy’s creator. "I vow to dominate our new competition. Rest easy, Big Bang Theory. Look out, Bang Bus!"

The July 4 World Cup match between Brazil and Colombia was the most-watched quarterfinal ever for ESPN and ABC, with 6.35 million viewers. On Univision, the game averaged 5.5 million viewers.

A group of New York-based nonfiction television production companies banded to form the Nonfiction Producers Association, a non-profit trade group "dedicated to maintaining, growing and nurturing the documentary and nonfiction TV production industry." Open to membership across the United States, the NPA aims to provide and promote "best practices" for all parties within the nonfiction television industry.

FX placed a 10-ep order for Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll, created by and starring Denis Leary. Produced by FX Productions and Fox Television Studios, the comedy about a washed-up rocker is slated for a 2015 premiere. He’s "elated" to be working with FX again said Leary (Rescue Me), adding, "They have a great platform for comedy, an award-winning marketing team and an amazing new Nespresso machine in the conference room."

FX sister net FXX is in ordering mode, too, grabbing 10 episodes of dating comedy Man Seeking Woman, starring SNL alum Jay Baruchel. Series is based on the Simon Rich book of short stories, The Last Girlfriend on Earth.

CBS issued a straight-to-series order for Zoo, a global thriller based on the James Patterson best-seller about a violent wave of animal attacks against humans. The CBS Television Studios production is slated for summer 2015.

Telemundo and Sony Pictures Television struck a three-year agreement calling for SPT to produce one primetime series per year for Telemundo in the U.S. Telemundo’s international sales division, Telemundo Internacional, will distribute the series worldwide. As part of the deal, SPT’s production company Teleset will produce the series in Mexico in association with Telemundo Studios. First series starts production in early 2015.

Starz announced script to series development of FremantleMedia North America‘s adaptation of urban fantasy novel American Gods. Bryan Fuller (Hannibal) will write the pilot with Michael Green (The River), who will also showrun.

ID enlists heartthrobs from the ’80s and ’90s to portray real-life "dreamboats who turned into total nightmares" for original series Heartbreakers. "Our viewers simply cannot get enough true stories of love gone wrong," said Henry Schleiff, group president, ID, DA, AHC and Discovery Fit & Health. "ID has hit on a unique hybrid that marries those true stories our viewers crave, with all the romance and drama that they love in their favorite primetime soaps." Onboard: Melrose Place‘s Jack Wagner, Rob Estes, Jamie Luner and Antonio Sabato, Jr., among others.

Real-time dating docu-series The Singles Project debuts on Bravo Tuesday, August 12 at 10p. The twist: viewers will be able to lend a hand in the matchmaking by interacting with the cast via social media.

Redwood Kings, featuring twin brothers renowned for turning ancient trees into works of art, premieres on Animal Planet Friday, August 1 at 9p. Theme alert: Treehouse Masters follows at 10p.

UP has licensed off-network cable rights to former ABC series Supernanny. How does the reality show fit in with the "uplifting entertainment" net’s goals? "Supernanny perfectly fulfills a promise of our brand to give our viewers ‘life lessons’ they can use," Charley Humbard, UP president and CEO, tells Cynopsis. "It is an inspiring and empowering journey to watch and one that aligns perfectly with our network’s mission to uplift viewers every day." Using night cameras and GPS technology, big cat tracker Boone Smith demonstrates how wild animals (leopards, coyotes, bears) are lurking in the shadows of cities and suburbs in Urban Jungle. The three-hour event will be simulcast on Nat Geo and Nat Geo WILD Sunday, August 3 at 8p.

Great American Country‘s Highway Cowboys arrives Tuesday, July 8 at 10p, chronicling the efforts of teams of cowboys to keep bulls, buffalo and more off busy roads in the Lone Star State.

Hallmark‘s Home & Family celebrates "Christmas in July" this week (July 7-11), complete with homemade Christmas candles, a DIY Nutcracker for the lawn and an upside down Christmas tree. Not to mention a sneak peek at Hallmark’s Keepsake Ornament collection, and stars from the net’s holiday fare. Program airs weekdays at 10a.

Hyper-realistic tattoos featuring characters from sci-fi films are the specialty of the misfit artists in A&E reality show Epic Ink, launching Wednesday, August 20 at 10:30p. Matador-produced series includes appearances by Butch Patrick (The Munsters) and Mistress of the Dark Elvira.

"Average Joes" get a crash course in survival on Fat Guys in the Woods, premiering on The Weather Channel Sunday, August 10 at 10p. Produced by RIVR Media, the series, filmed during one of the coldest winters in history in the Appalachian Mountains of Tennessee, shows viewers "the central, and often critical, role that weather plays in people’s lives outdoors," said Dave Clark, president of TWC.

Sundance TV‘s The Approval Matrix, inspired by the New York Magazine pop culture roundup feature, bows Monday, August 11 at 11p. Look for drop-ins from the likes of Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation), Jon Stewart (The Daily Show) and comedian Chris Rock.

Bad Bingeing: Every episode of AMC‘s Breaking Bad (2008-2013) will air in order on Sunday nights from 5p-1a, August 10 through October 5. Custom social graphics and new content will complement viewing, including a partnership with Facebook that looks at how the series exploded on social media. AMC.com’s "Breaking Bad Binge Companion" will use the Story Sync platform to provide an interactive experience, including trivia questions and polls.

TLC has two bridal specials for "Friday BrideDay": Bride By Design (wt), premiering July 25 at 10p, and Curvy Brides, bowing August 1 at 10p. Both shows offer "a whole new look" at the emotional search for that perfect gown.

Science Channel;s most-watched series of 2013 is back with a 12-ep sophomore season Tuesday, July 29 at 10p. The Unexplained Files kicks off with the real story of the exorcism that inspired 1973′s head-spinning horror classic, The Exorcist.

Food Network‘s keeping kids busy in the kitchen this summer. After teens battle for $25,000 and a culinary school scholarship on the Tuesday, August 12-at-10p finale of Chopped Teen Tournament, season two of Rachael vs. Guy: Kids Cook-Off launches, featuring aspiring mini-chefs competing to win their own web series, on Sunday, August 17 at 8p.

My Grandmother’s Ravioli returns to Cooking Channel with grandparents sharing treasured family dishes (shoo-fly pie, stuffed pig stomach), along with local traditions, with host Mo Rocca. Season three launches Wednesday, August 6 at 8p.

The summer season of CNN‘s Death Row Stories premieres Sunday, July 13 at 10p and 1a. "Our hope and expectation is that these episodes, all dealing with cases yet to be resolved, will further the discussion about what is working, and what is not, within our justice system," said Sundance Productions‘ Robert Redford and Laura Michalchyshyn.

Drivers got a peek at the new Cadillac logo last week, when the auto brand debuted a TV ad touting a vehicle connected with OnStar with 4G LTE. While the promo was all about the technology, shots of the 2015 ATS Coupe displayed a wider Cadillac crest, without the iconic wreath that debuted in 1902. "Just as our vehicles are longer, lower, and leaner, we wanted to make sure that the Crest represented the same kind of brand evolution in our cars," said the company when the logo change was announced in January.

CASTING

Jennifer Love Hewitt has joined the season ten cast of CBS’s Criminal Minds as a series regular. The actress starred for five seasons (2005-2010) on the net’s Ghost Whisperer.

James Callis (Battlestar Gallactica) is onboard El Rey spy thriller Matador, premiering Tuesday, July 15 at 9p.

ABC‘s Once Upon a Time has enlisted Georgina Haig (Fringe) to play Frozen‘s Snow Queen in season four.

Carol Kane (Taxi) and Kyle Massey (That’s So Raven) have been added to the cast of Gotham. The Fox drama premieres in fall 2014.

RATINGS REPORT: 2Q14

NBC‘s Tonight Show had its top-rated second quarter in five years among A18-49, posting 1.29/6 and 3.97 million total viewers, versus .67/3 and best-ever 2.67 million viewers for ABC‘s Jimmy Kimmel Live and .51/2 and 2.66 million viewers for CBS‘s Late Show with David Letterman. Year over year, Tonight was up 52 percent and Kimmel up 10 percent in the demo.

ABC‘s Nightline won the quarter in total viewers (1.69 million) in its first quarter in its new time slot, according to Nielsen, outdrawing NBC‘s Late Night with Seth Meyers by 111,000 and CBS‘s The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson by 298,000. Among A18-49, Late Night was tops with .57/4, versus .42/2 for Nightline and .36/2 for Late Late Show.

Crediting the NBA Playoffs and the NCAA Championship, as well as a strong start for its summer lineup, TNT boasts it was basic cable’s top network in prime time among total viewers and all key adult demos for 2Q14.

VH1‘s primetime ratings jumped 16 percent for the second quarter of 2014, fueled by Hit the Floor, basic cable’s top drama among W18-49, and Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta, cable’s number one reality show among A18-49, reports the net. VH1 averaged .4 among A18-49, and 696,000 total viewer primetime impressions in the quarter.

With an assist from Mountain Monsters, Hillbilly Blood and BBQ Pitmasters, Destination America had its best quarter ever in Prime and Total Day in all key demos. With 11 consecutive quarters of year-over-year delivery gains in Prime among P25-54, DA ranks among cable’s top five fastest-growing networks in Prime delivery among P2+, P/W18-49/25-54 and HH.

TLC had its highest-rated 2Q14 in over a decade, posting significant gains in Prime delivery versus a year ago among HH, P2+, P/W25-54, and W18-49. Driven by the best seasons ever of The Little Couple and 19 Kids and Counting, the net was the number one ad-supported cable network in delivery among W25-54 and number two among W18-49 on Tuesday night in 2Q14.

Investigation Discovery scored its best-ever 2Q in Prime, up 19 percent (to 783,000) in P2+, up 22 percent (to 651,000) among P25-54 and up 15 percent (to 273,000) among P18-49 versus 2Q13. Results were driven by four series averaging over one million P2+ viewers: Unusual Suspects (1.2 million), Deadline: Crime with Tamron Hall (1.09 million), Swamp Murders (1.05 million) and The Perfect Murder (1.04 million).

Rebranded American Heroes Channel experienced its best June ever in Prime delivery among P2+ (230,000) and HH (192,000). The premiere of AHC’s original special, Hitler’s Jurassic Zoo (Monday, June 2), was one of the net’s the top three original premieres ever for Prime delivery among P2+ (470,000), HH (392,000) and P25-54 (205,000).

Science Channel boasted its highest-rated second quarter ever for P2+ (up 16 percent, to 312,000) and P18-49 (up 18 percent, to 118,000) in prime, the net’s 11th consecutive quarter of P2+ year-over-year prime growth.

Fast-growing men’s net Velocity saw gains in 2Q14 in all Persons ratings (P25-54/18-49/18-34), with five of seven nights showing steady or improved ratings growth for P25-54, and all non-prime dayparts growing both P25-54 and M25-54 ratings. June (Total Day) was Velocity’s highest-rated June ever for P/M25-54.

NBCUniversal named Donald C. Storm II as Chief Financial Officer for E! and Esquire. Previously, Storm was Vice President of Financial Planning and Analysis at NBCUniversal Corporate.

IN MEMORIAM

Character actor Bob Hastings died June 30 of pancreatic cancer. He was 89. In addition to his role as Lt. Elroy Carpenter on McHale’s Navy, Hastings appeared on series including All in the Family, Twilight Zone and Gunsmoke.

Gold Rush star James Harness, who left the Discovery reality show after its second season, died at age 57. Harness had suffered from serious medical problems after a car accident.
