“On the heels of the July 4th holiday, TiVo Research put its second-by-second TV data to work,” Tara Maitra, SVP/GM of Content, tells Cynopsis. Using its MediaTRAnalytics, TiVo Research measure movie enthusiasts and what they like to watch on TV. The top four movies the panel said they were excited to see this summer include Ghost Busters, Star Trek: Beyond, Secret Life of Pets, and Suicide Squad. The top 5 most watched TV networks the participants watched were FXX, TSC-Science Channel, Disney XD, CMT and Sprout.
The Council for Research Excellence unveiled findings from a new platform usage study at the annual Nielsen Consumer 360 event on Wednesday that shows TV outperforming computer, smartphone and tablet in viewer ad attention and recall. The study, conducted by Hub Entertainment Research, was designed to compare viewing of TV shows and advertising across screens. Key findings include: Attention to advertising and ad recall are similar among viewers using computer, smartphone and tablet, but higher among those watching a TV. For ad recall, 62 percent of TV viewers were able to recall half or more advertisers, followed by tablet (47 percent), smartphone (46 percent) and computer (45 percent). For attentiveness, 29 percent of participants rated TV an 8-10 on a 10-point scale where 10 means complete attention, ahead of smartphone (23 percent), computer (20 percent) and tablet (17 percent). Enjoyment, a measure of program engagement, was high across all platforms, but especially for smartphone viewers. Platform experience is related to actual screen size with 89 percent of participants rating TV an 8-10 on a 10-point scale for enjoyment, followed by tablet (63 percent), computer (54 percent) and smartphone (53 percent).
