IN THE NEWS

The Supreme Court sided with TV networks against Aereo on Wednesday, ruling in a 6-3 decision that the streaming service violated copyright laws by using antennas to transmit broadcast networks over the Internet for a fee. "Blocking this technology is a big loss for consumers," said Aereo backer Barry Diller, who told CNBC the company "is over." The National Association of Broadcasters maintained the ruling "sends an unmistakable message that businesses built on the theft of copyrighted material will not be tolerated."

CW announced it will "strategically roll-out" its fall offerings, avoiding the crush of the official September premiere week. The Vampire Diaries and Reign bow Thursday, October 2, with The Originals back Monday, October 6. The Flash and Supernatural launch Tuesday, October 7, Arrow arrives Wednesday, October 8, Jane the Virgin debuts Monday, October 13 and The 100 comes back Wednesday, October 22.

Ocean Mysteries with Jeff Corwin picked up two Daytime Emmys, for Outstanding Travel Program and Directing, the show’s first ever. And Corwin’s a little excited. "What an awesome night!" the host and exec producer tells Cynopsis. "It is incredibly gratifying to know that a series focused on connecting the American viewer to wildlife, science and conservation, can flourish in such a robust and competitive TV environment."

Fans of Olivia Pope’s smashingly chic wardrobe on Scandal can get a piece of it (sort of) at retailer the Limited. The ABC drama’s costume designer, Lyn Paolo, along with star Kerry Washington and Limited head of design Elliot Staples, collaborated for a Scandal-inspired collection arriving in stores September 22, with prices beginning at an un-Olivia-like $49.

Binge-viewing’s nothing to be embarrassed about, according to a study from Tivo. While 53 percent of respondents surveyed in April 2013 felt the habit had negative connotations, that number dropped to one third in the current report. Three quarters of those surveyed reported they’d "super-binged" three or more episodes of a series in a day, and 29 percent admitted to putting off watching a season of a show until they could watch it all at once.

NBCUniversal unveiled ambitious plans for 30 Rockefeller Plaza that include restoring original art deco designs, while embedding state-of-the-art technological elements. "The entire re-design has been crafted to bring NBCUniversal’s talent for showmanship and spectacle to our global headquarters, and to further deepen our company’s longstanding commitment to New York," said John Wallace, president, NBCUniversal Operations and Technical Services.

The Broadcasters Foundation of America elected four new board members: Peter Dunn, president, CBS Television Stations; David T. Lougee, president, Gannett Broadcasting; Elizabeth Neuhoff, president and CEO, Neufhoff Communications and Michael O’Neill, president and CEO, Broadcast Music, Inc. The foundation helps broadcasters who lose their livelihood due to debilitating disease or family tragedy.

NBC weight loss competition Biggest Loser is losing Jillian Michaels. Again. It’s the third time the personal trainer has headed for the exit – she also left in 2006 and 2011. "The Biggest Loser and Jillian Michaels have decided to part ways," said a statement from NBC and producers Shine America. Loser returns in the fall for season 16.
