David Hill is leaving his senior executive vice president position at 21st Century Fox to launch a TV production company, Hilly, focused on live TV and reality shows and backed by Fox. The move has “no connection whatsoever” with Rupert Murdoch’s decision to step down as CEO on July 1, said the company.

“David is a dynamic and imaginative leader who has changed the experience of nearly all major sports on three continents,” said Murdoch. “Whether it was launching Sky Television, the Fox Network, Fox Sports, or the Regional Sports Networks, we owe him an enormous debt for his nearly thirty years of contributions.” Said Hill, exec producer for the last two seasons of American Idol, “I believe the future of the broadcast networks lies in big, spectacular live events. As I’ve spent most of my life producing those, I think I can give some added value.”

IN THE NEWS

TV Land unveiled a new logo yesterday, reflecting a rebrand that’s more than skin deep. “Our new logo, look and editorial voice are a part of a major overhaul of the TV Land brand itself,” said Kim Rosenblum, EVP of marketing and creative for the net.“The majority of our audience in prime time and weekends are now Gen Xers – vibrant, working adults who grew up on MTV and edgier shows. They demand and deserve a brand that is more connected to where they are today.” Added Keith Cox, EVP of development and original programming, “For the past year, we’ve been taking more risks as a network, committed to bringing in the content that makes us a destination for unique shows that have a distinct voice. The new look and logo signal that this change is officially here.” Coming up: new series The Jim Gaffigan Show, starring the comedian and actor, and dark comedy Impastor on July 15.

Television’s still the big kahuna in terms of usage, confirms Nielsen’s Q1 Total Audience Report. TV leads in weekly usage with 36 hours and 7 minutes, versus seven hours and 17 minutes for smartphones, five hours and 34 minutes for PCs and three hours 34 minutes for tablets. And while the P18-34 group spends less time with TV, 21 hours and 55 minutes, they still spend nearly as much time using digital devices as a whole as they do watching TV.

Starting early next month, Showtime will become the first premium service offered to Hulu subscribers. “Hulu is an important launch partner for Showtime as we continue to expand our service across new platforms and distributors, reaching new consumers wherever a broadband connection is available,” said Matthew C. Blank, chairman and CEO of Showtime Networks. Showtime will be available for purchase in advance of the July 12 premieres of Ray Donovan and Masters of Sex.

Can cult fave Hannibal be saved? NBC announced Monday the drama’s third season will be its last, but “We are exploring options with other potential partners,” said exec producer Martha De Laurentis. Series airs Thursdays at 10p.

Ashton Kutcher is set to take a dip in ABC’s Shark Tank. The Two and a Half Men star, who has invested in tech startups including Skype, Foursquare and Airbnb, will serve as a “guest shark” during season seven of the reality show, launching Friday, September 25.

FUN OF YOUR BUSINESS

If you had a secret power what would it be? Would you want to be super strong, super smart or just be able to turn back time to change a bad day to a good?  We asked our readers “If you had a magic power what would it be and why?” and here’s what you had to say.

“My magic power is the shopping power, whether it’s for myself or someone else. I have an amazing track record. My kids call it The Force. I come up with the right size, color,  and it’s often on sale.” Tom Maney EVP, Ad Sales, Fox Hispanic Media

“To have the "force" from Star Wars. I’m a Star Wars geek!” Chris Lambton, Host, DIY Network’s Yard Crashers

“I always thought it would be fun to make people have diarrhea. So when they cut you off in traffic, you zap them and make them poop in their pants. It’s not too serious, but it’s effective.” CH Greeblatt, creator of Nickelodeon’s Harvey Beaks

“I’d love to be Captain America. He’s my guy. He’s got a pure heart, loves his country and he fights for honor. He’s never selfish.” Tony Dovolani, Actor, Ballroom Dancer, Dancing With the Stars

“I’d like to have [the power to survive] cryogenics where you die and they freeze you and you come back! I want to be able to see what went on while I was away.” Sheryl Underwood, Castmember, The Talk

“I’d like to fly. I’ve always wanted to fly. I’ve dreamed that I have.” Chris O’Donnell, Actor, NCIS Los Angeles

“I have a two-part answer and it speaks to who you are as a person depending on how you respond. If you choose the ability to fly it’s because you think maybe you’re going to perform heroic deeds and save people. But if you choose invisibility it could be because you want to sneak around and spy. For me, I’d have to go with the power of flight that freedom would be amazing.” Mickey Fisher, creator/executive producer, Extant

“Mind-reading would be very lonely. You’d find out that humanity has a terrible streak of madness. I think I’ll go Faustian and just choose [the super power] of having bliss.” Eric Christian Olsen, Actor, NCIS: Los Angeles

“Easy. If I had a magic power, it would be to end world suffering…but if I got TWO, then the second would be to never require sleep or get tired.” Stephen Hill, President of Programming, BET

“I would want the ability to speak every language that has ever been spoken so I could communicate to anyone and everyone. I would influence change, end arguments and connect people with people.” Cynthia Simpson, Casting Producer, Cynthia-knows.com
