Despite the fact that Latinos are an increasingly powerful force in the U.S., their participation in mainstream English language media is "stunningly low," according to a new study, "The Latino Gap," commissioned by Columbia University. The report found fewer television and movie stories and roles than there were 70 years ago, and “when Latinos are visible, they tend to be portrayed through decades-old stereotypes as criminals, law enforcers, cheap labor, and hypersexualized beings.”

Storage Wars auctioneer Dan Dotson underwent surgery after suffering a double brain aneurysm. His wife Laura reported on Twitter Thursday that he was "on the road to recovery." "Everyone at A+E Networks wishes Dan a speedy recovery," said A&E in a statement.

Breaking Bad creator and showrunner Vince Gilligan is directing the series premiere of spinoff Better Call Saul, and co-showrunning with Bad alum Peter Gould, creator of the Saul character. AMC has ordered a second, 13-episode season of Saul, for a total of 23; premieres are slated for early 2015 and 2016, to join Walking Dead.
Alexandra Cunningham (Desperate Housewives) is jumping from Universal Television for a one-year development deal at 20th Century Fox Television, reports Deadline. "We have been pursuing Alex for years," said 20th TV CEO and chairman Dana Walden.
Amazon Studios confirmed its order for half-hour dramedy pilot Really, starring writer-director Jay Chandrasekhar (Super Troopers), Sarah Chalke (Scrubs), Selma Blair (Anger Management), Luka Jones (Bad Teacher) and Travis Schuldt (It’s Always Raining in Philadelphia). The show is part of the third season of pilots debuting on Amazon for viewer feedback; winners will become available as full series on Prime Instant Video.

Jason O’Mara (Life on Mars) will play the father of our country in History miniseries Sons of Liberty, which began production in Bucharest, Romania, reports EW.

Fox‘s Hell’s Kitchen on Thursday earned its best rating among A18-49 in almost three months, according to Nielsen, with 1.8/7. ABC‘s Black Box landed in its new 8p time slot with a .7/3 in the demo, down one tenth from its last airing three weeks ago.
The premiere of Syfy‘s Dominion on Thursday averaged 805,000 A18-49 and 935,000 A25-54, after the season two launch of Defiance drew 776,000 and 948,000 in the demos.
Thursday A18-49 Analysis: FOX scored the most A18-49 viewers Thursday with 1.3/5, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. A 1.8/7 for Fox’s Hell’s Kitchen beat an average 1.5/6 for CBS’s The Big Bang Theory and Mom at 8p. Univision topped the 9p hour with 1.6/5 for Que Vida Me Robo, versus a 1.2/4 average for CBS’s Two and a Half Men and The Millers. NBC emerged to win 10p with 1.4/5 for Last Comic Standing, followed by 1.3/5 for Univision’s Que Pobres Tan Ricos.
