Dreadful news for Penny Dreadful fans: Sunday’s third-season finale also marked the series finale. Showtime confirms that the show is over and done after 27 episodes. “John Logan deftly created a truly beautiful, brilliantly-written, epic drama series that has drawn a passionate fan base to our network,” said Showtime president David Nevins. “After three fulfilling seasons, John has told the story he set out to tell and brought the series to a close in an incredibly poetic way.”
There’s a new Sunday Night Football theme song coming to NBC, and country superstar Carrie Underwood will be singing it. “Oh, Sunday Night” is a take on Underwood’s 2014 hit duet with Miranda Lambert, “Somethin’ Bad.” The ditty will have new football-themed lyrics, as a well as a changed-up arrangement.

J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions has come onboard to develop the event series adaptation of Tavis Smiley’s book, Before You Judge Me: The Triumph and Tragedy of Michael Jackson’s Last Days, for Warner Bros TV. Before You Judge Me is described as a “taut rendering of the final months in the life of one of the most iconic figures in modern popular culture.” The project has yet to be acquired by a network.
The CW, Tribune Studios and Irwin Entertainment have teamed to premiere The Robert Irvine Show, which The CW will add to its weekday afternoon lineup beginning September 2016. The show, described as 60-minute daytime conflict resolution talker, will feature Irvine (Restaurant: Impossible) providing help to families with his signature “tough love” approach to therapeutic work. It will air Monday through Friday at 3p nationwide.
Production on season three of E! drama The Royals has begun in London. Created by Mark Schwahn and co-produced by Lionsgate and Universal Cable Productions, the new season will feature 10 one-hour episodes and pick up two weeks after the execution of King Simon’s murderer. Premiere is slated for later this year.

Oxygen Media’s true crime series Snapped celebrates its 300th episode with a six-hour marathon of the franchise’s most challenging cases, beginning at 3p on Sunday, June 26. The murder and mayhem culminates with the show’s milestone episode, “The Story of Katrina Ben,” at 9p.
Broadway musical artists are set to appear on NBC’s Maya & Marty on Tuesday, June 21 at 10p to perform “What the World Needs Now Is Love.” The updated version of the Burt Bacharach/Hal David song is helping to support the devastated LGBT community of Orlando, Florida. Among those scheduled to appear are Renee Elise Goldsberry (Hamilton), Roger Bart (You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown), Andrea Burns (On Your Feet) and more.
Little Big Town will perform on the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular, a two-hour entertainment special to be broadcast live from the Charles River Esplanade in Boston on Monday, July 4 at 9p on CBS. The group joins previously announced artists Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas, accompanied by the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra.
For the second consecutive year, AXS TV celebrates the best short films from the New York City Drone Film Festival 2016. The hour-long presentation premieres Thursday, June 29, at 9p. Founder and festival director Randy Scott Slavin will serve as host.
Reelz is airing the exclusive U.S. premiere of Oscar Pistorius: The Interview on Saturday, June 25 at 8p. The hour-long special features the only interview with former Olympian Oscar Pistorius, since being convicted of killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

Fast N’ Loud spin-off Misfit Garage revs up with bigger builds and more drama when it returns to Discovery’s Motor Mondays on July 11 at 9p. Series follows the crew at Fired Up Garage.
ID premieres season five of Deadly Sins on Thursday, June 30 at 10p. New series Passport to Murder, which records the murder of American citizens in far-flung parts of the world, bows Friday, July 1 at 9p. How (Not) to Kill Your Husband, retelling the world’s most extraordinary true crimes of passion, returns for a third season on Saturday, July 2 at 10p.
Outside Television debuts season three of Locals on Thursday, June 23 at 9p. New host Cam McCaul, a world renowned mountain biker, guides viewers around unique locations. Sling TV is offering a month-long free preview of Outside TV.
Following Monday’s second season premiere of Odd Mom Out, Bravo Media is making the second and third episodes of the comedy available on BravoTV.com, the Bravo Now App and VOD ahead of their linear debuts.

Orange Is the New Black’s Samira Wiley has booked a recurring role on season three of FXX‘s You’re the Worst. She’ll play Justina, therapist to star Aya Cash‘s Gretchen. The show returns Wednesday, August 31 at 10p.
Following a guest spot in season two, Xzibit has been upped to series regular for season three of Empire. The FOX series returns on Wednesday, September 21.
Netflix limited period drama Godless has added two cast members: Whitney Able (Monsters) and Samantha Soule.

NBA champion and all-star Kobe Bryant will be honored with the Legend Award at Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Sports 2016. The ceremony, hosted by Seattle Seahawks two-time Super Bowl quarterback Russell Wilson, airs Sunday, July 17 at 8p.
Production of season five of Wild Kratts is underway for PBS KIDS in the U.S. and TVO and Knowledge Network in Canada. The new season of the animated series is expected to premiere on PBS KIDS in 2017. In addition, 9 Story Media Group has secured a raft of new sales for the program around the world. Various seasons have been acquired by RTBF (Belgium), VRT (Belgium), E Junior (UAE and Israel), Noga (Israel), RTE (Ireland), SIC (Portugal), and TVC (Spain).
Dreamwork Animation’s first original preschool series, Noddy Toyland Detective, will make its U.S. premiere on Sprout, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment’s 24-hour preschool network this fall. The CG-animated series follows a young boy and his friends as they embark on interactive adventures to solve mysteries.
Miraculous, the CGI-animated sit-com action series from ZAG/Zagtoon and France’s Method Animation, has been greenlit for a second and third season. Produced in collaboration with Disney Channel in Europe and French broadcaster TF1, season 2 is set to premiere in early summer 2017.
DHX Television’s Family Channel and Radical Sheep Productions, a division of Boat Rocker Studios, has begun principal photography on season five of The Next Step. The global tween series follows the lives of an elite group of dancers that train at the Next Step studio. Production on the 20-episode order begins this summer in Toronto to premiere on Family Channel in 2017.
Production company Citizen Skull announced the launch of a new children’s division, Citizen Kids, at Annecy Animation Festival last week. It will be led by ex-Cartoon Network executive Heather Kenyon. The shingle will be involved in the development, production and consulting for both live action and animated kids’ properties.
Corus Entertainment’s Nelvana and Sony Pictures Animation have licensed the global broadcast and on-demand rights for new animated series, Hotel Transylvania: The Television Series to Disney Channels Worldwide. Show is slated to air on Disney Channel in the U.S., Europe (excluding Germany), Latin America, Australia/New Zealand, Africa, the Middle East and Asia in 2017. In Canada, it will roll out across Corus Entertainment’s Disney Channel platforms.

RFD-TV and the National Cable Television Cooperative have struck a multi-year distribution agreement, allowing over 800 video service providers across the United States the opportunity to launch the network that provides programming devoted to the rural and western lifestyle. “RFD-TV has had a relationship with a vast number of NCTC members for many years. Indeed, these independent cable operators helped solidify our standing as a successful, independent network. Our partnership with NCTC offers an exciting opportunity to further the relationship with member operators not currently carrying RFD-TV and RFD HD,” stated Peter Clifford, RFD-TV’s head of distribution.
GLOBAL GOINGS ON
Studiocanal has licensed Section Zero to Channel One, Russia’s leading network with more than 250 million viewers worldwide. The eight-part sci-fi thriller launches from August 1 to 4 with two episodes back-to-back each day.
GRB Entertainment has announced sales of programming to UKTV, Fox UK and Foxtel. UKTV acquired courtroom series Judge Faith Jenkins for its UK and Ireland feeds. Real-life crime series Killer Kids was picked up by Fox UK and explores the dark side of children. Foxtel acquired three seasons of investigative crime series On the Case with Paula Zahn for Australia and New Zealand.
Independent distributor all3media International has inked an 80-hour deal in CEE with AMC Networks to ship Lion Television’s classical history factual specials and series to broadcasters in Hungary, Czech Republic and Slovakia. Agreement includes one-hour specials China: Treasures of the Jade Empire and The Great Wall of China: The Hidden Story, plus series Meet the Romans, Rome: Empire Without Limit with Mary Beard and The Story of Egypt.
DIGITAL DOINGS
Netflix is nearing a renewal of its streaming deal with The CW. The new pact would see shows becoming available on the platform as soon as a few weeks after the end of their season run. The extension comes as The CW’s existing output deals with Netflix and Hulu are set to expire later this year. The deal is being negotiated by CBS and Warner Bros. to extend Netflix’s relationship for another five years. It would give the streamer domestic rights to the shows for several years after they end.
Hulu has confirmed the impending launch of its live TV streaming service. According to Cord Cutter News, which obtained a survey Hulu is sending to select subscribers, the basic package will start at $35 and allow streaming to one in-home device or mobile device. A $50 option allows streaming to multiple devices. Both plans will include 20 hours of DVR storage and either live or on-demand access to ABC, NBC, FOX and CBS. Some 80 channels appear to be included in the $35, including AMC, ESPN, TBS, TNT and USA.
HBO Now suffered a temporary outage in the US on Sunday, June 19, when subscribers swarmed the system to stream the latest episode of Game of Thrones. The HBO Now Twitter feed acknowledged the issue about 45 minutes after the show’s premiere, citing “technical difficulties.”
Showtime is giving viewers a chance to sample the TV-14 rated version of the season four premiere of Ray Donovan ahead of its linear premiere on Sunday, June 26 at 9p. The first episode of the crime drama is available on YouTube and SHO.com. The episode is also available for download as a free video podcast on iTunes.

Sunday night’s NBA Finals Game 7 on ABC was the night’s #1 program in Viewers (30.8 million) and across each of the key Adult demographics: A18-34 (10.7 rating), A18-49 (11.2 rating) and A25-54 (11.7 rating). The sports event stands as TV’s most watched telecast overall since ABC’s 2016 Academy Awards and the top rated among A18-49 since CBS’ Super Bowl 50, since 2/28/16 and 2/7/16, respectively.
The Sunday, June 12 series premiere of Destination America’s Ghosts of Shepherdstown was the network’s highest-rated and most-watched series debut ever, becoming the third consecutive paranormal series premiere of 2016 to break records for delivery of P2+ (663,000) and HH (529,000) on L+3 Day viewing, following Paranormal Lockdown and Ghost Brothers. Among P25-54, the premiere ties the Friday, April 15 premiere of Ghost Brothers as the #1 highest-rated series debut in network history.
Growing for the 2nd consecutive week, Freeform’s Baby Daddy surged to near 1-year highs in total viewers (1.133 million), A18-49 (710,000/0.6 rating) and W18-49 (552,000/0.9 rating) since 8/5/15 and 7/29/15, respectively.

Friday A18-49 Analysis: Univision won the most A18-49 viewers Friday with 1.0/5, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. Univision’s COPA America Centenario 2016 topped at 8p with 1.3/7, followed by ABC’s Shark Tank and NBC’s America’s Got Talent which tied with 0.8/4. At 9p, Univision’s COPA America Centenario 2016 led with 1.7/8; NBC’s America’s Got Talent was second with 1.0/4. EXECUTIVE MOVES
After nearly 18 years, Jill Holmes, Head of West Coast Development and Production of VH1, is leaving the net’s executive ranks. Holmes will exit her post in August, however, will remain in the VH1 fold with a multi-year first-look deal.
Bryan Seabury has been named Senior Vice President, Drama Development, Broadcast and Cable Programming, CBS Television Studios. The appointment marks a return to CBS Television Studios for Seabury, after nearly seven years in drama development at CBS Entertainment, most recently as Senior Vice President, Drama Development.
Jana Steele Helman has joined Freeform as Vice President of Programming and Development. She was previously Director of Comedy Development at Warner Bros. Television.
CBS Television Studios and CBS Interactive has announced the appointment of Julie McNamara to the newly created position of Executive Vice President, Original Content, CBS All Access, the network’s digital subscription video-on-demand and live streaming service. McNamara has led drama development at CBS Television Studios for the past 10 years.
Havas Worldwide has appointed Michael Keany to the newly created role of Chief Commercial Officer, Americas, effective June 27. He joins the agency from McKinsey & Company, where he served as Vice President and co-founder of McKinsey Academy.
Production company Tool of North America has promoted Oliver Fuselier to Managing Partner, Live Action. He had been Managing Director, Live Action.
