Sumner Redstone’s National Amusements replaced five members of the Viacom Inc. Board of Directors, including Viacom CEO Philippe Dauman. Responding to statements by the directors that such a move would be challenged in court, National Amusements filed papers to affirm the validity of its actions. Dauman is awaiting a hearing on a case in a Massachusetts court, in which he contends the mental capacity of 93-year-old Redstone renders him incapable of making important decisions.

The house theme of this season’s Big Brother will be “Summer Vacation,” with decor that celebrates travel and vacation destinations. “I don’t want to give too much away,” teased exec producer Allison Grodner, “but there are quite a few things in the house that are more than just decorations.” Two-night season premiere airs Wednesday, June 22 at 8p and Thursday, June 22 at 9p on CBS.

Broadcast TV networks lead the media pack in brand equity, according to the latest Harris Poll measuring familiarity, quality and purchase consideration, but cable and streaming sites are making inroads.  “Particularly with the Brands of the Year – ABC and CBS - TV networks have experienced a slight lift in 2016,” said Joan Sinopoli, VP of brand solutions at Nielsen, owner of the Harris Poll. “However, consumers tend to view factual entertainment TV, which has a lot of educational content, as having a stronger positive social impact. This likely helps to push it toward the front in equity.” Netlix topped the video streaming subscription category, History was first in Factual Entertainment TV, AMC won General Entertainment TV kudos, while HBO was first in pay cable and Weather Channel led for TV News. All Harris Poll EquiTrend Brands of the year are here.

Altice got the final go-ahead from the New York Public Service Commission for its $17.7 billion purchase of Cablevision. The deal was approved on the condition that Altice upgrade broadband speeds, assist low- and middle-income customers and protect jobs related to customer service.

A day of “We Are Orlando” programming precedes the show, starting at 10a.

As streaming services continue to snatch children’s shows, Hulu struck a content licensing agreement with The Disney-ABC Television Group that will make full prior seasons of kids titles from Disney Channel, Disney Junior and Disney XD available to stream. ADVERTISING

Advertising spending will grow 4.5 percent in 2016, projected Pivotal Research Group’s Brian Reiser in a note to investors on Thursday, versus the 2.8 percent forecast in December. Weiser pointed to “many in the pharmaceutical category, app developers and large technology companies such as Google, Apple and Amazon, who each have new consumer products requiring significant marketing support,” as helping spur expansion.

Media consultant ID Comms offered a “Manifesto for Change” in response to the report from K2 Intelligence that found a lack of transparency in agency media buying (and drew sharp criticism from agencies for relying on anonymous sources). Suggested steps include managing internal communication; reviewing existing agency contracts; restructuring media audits; getting control of media planning, and committing to strong governance. “Making more of media means taking greater control of this huge area of spend; that means getting governance right and boosting internal media expertise,” said Tom Denford, chief strategy office at ID Comms.

GLOBAL GOINGS ON

Battle of the Chefs: Italy on Keshet Broadcasting was the most-watched show of the night on Wednesday, with a 37 percent audience share.
