Good morning. It’s Thursday June 16, 2016, and this is your first early morning Sports briefing.

Turner Sports’ NBA staple Craig Sager is on his way to cover the NBA Finals for the first time. ESPN announced that Sager will join its broadcast team for Game 6 on ABC at 9p tonight where he will share sideline reporting duties with Doris Burke to round out Thursday’s team, which includes play-by-play commentator Mike Breen and analysts Jeff Van Gundy and Mark Jackson. Sager will receive the Jimmy V Perseverance Award at the 2016 ESPYS on July 13 following his battle with Leukemia. “I’d like to thank Turner and ESPN for approaching me with this tremendous opportunity to be part of The Finals broadcast team,” said Sager. “I’ve been watching the series very closely and, while I do not want to distract in any way from the event itself, I look forward to being in the building for what will be an incredibly exciting Game 6. The NBA community is a very special one and this is a great honor.”

ON THE AIR

NBC Olympics announced plans for Al Michaels, Dan Patrick, Rebecca Lowe, Liam McHugh and Carolyn Manno at the Summer Games in Rio, where they will join Bob Costas, NBC’s primetime Olympics host for the 11th time, and Ryan Seacrest, who will host NBC’s late night show from Rio. Michaels will serve as a host during NBC’s daytime coverage on weekdays and weekends. Patrick and Lowe will work across both NBC and NBCSN. McHugh and Manno will handle NBCSN hosting duties.

FOX Sports revealed its quarterfinals broadcast teams and expanded studio programming for the USA/Ecuador quarterfinal at the Copa America from Seattle. The telecast takes place tonight beginning with a 90-minute pregame show and coverage at 8p on FS1. JP Dellacamera calls the action,with U.S. Men’s National Team all-time leading scorer Landon Donovan providing analysis and Jenny Taft reporting. Rob Stone hosts pre-match, halftime and post-match commentary beside Alexi Lalas, Fernando Fiore, Stu Holden and Seattle Sounders Forward Herculez Gomez

Speaking of the Copa America, through 24 matches, Univision Deportes is averaging 2.6 million viewers with 1.4 million Adults 18-49 per match, besting the 2014 World Cup group stage performance by 3% among Adults 18-49. Throughout the tournament group stage, the Mexican national team matches averaged 4.9 million viewers and 2.8 million Adults 18-49.

It’s the Pac-12 versus Australia. Top Australian basketball players will face off against the USA Pac-12 College All-Stars for a pair of games in Melbourne as part of the Australian Boomers Olympic campaign  on July 12 and July 14.

CBS Sports carries the NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s tennis Championships this weekend from 1:30-4p on Saturday and Sunday. Andrew Catalon and Jimmy Arias call the action for both championships.

DIGITAL & STREAMING

Sports Illustrated Group launched “Tech & Media,” a new multi-platform vertical in partnership with SportTechie. Anchoring the vertical will be Richard Deitsch’s “Media Circus” columns and breaking sports media news.

Facebook Messenger launched a new soccer game for fans to play, dubbed “Keepy Up in Messenger.” Users can play by sending friends the soccer ball emoji in a new thread in the Messenger app and tap the emoji to begin. The more times they tap the ball to keep it in the air, the more points you will get.

GameHedge announced a first-of-its-kind, patent-pending ticket buying, offering “every ticket purchased through GameHedge comes standard with an exclusive Good Game Guarantee: a 50 percent refund of the ticket price if the home team loses by a certain margin.” Tickets to all 2016 Major League Baseball (MLB) games are now available on the platform.
