Good morning. It’s Friday, June 13, 2014, and this is your first early morning Sports briefing.

Despite the potential for a Kings sweep in the Stanley Cup Finals, NBCSN reports that Game 4 of the series became the third most-watched Stanley Cup Final in channel history, according to Nielsen. The matchup delivered 3.383 million viewers, to put the channel in the top spot in cable in primetime and among A18-49. Through four games, the 2014 Final is pulling an average of 4.652 million viewers on NBC/NBCSN, to rank as the second-most watched Stanley Cup Final through 4 games in 12 years.

TV took center stage in the Ed O’Bannon class-action antitrust lawsuit against the NCAA on Thursday with former NBA TV President Ed Desser testifying on behalf of the O’Bannon team; former CBS Sports President Neal Pilson spoke for the NCAA. USA Today writes that while Desser said broadcast deals convey name and image rights, and that those rights have value, Pilson noted that an amateur was shown Thursday morning competing in the US Open but, as far as he knew, does not receive TV money for it. He added that the loyalty of the audience is to the schools, not the players.

Canada’s Bell Media locked in a deal to carry Formula One on TSN and RDS, extending media rights through 2019. The channels will carry all races, as well as qualifying and practice sessions and encore presentations.
