President Barack Obama will make his first ever appearance on NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday, June 9 at 11:35p. It’s not Fallon’s first appearance with the Commander in Chief, however – Fallon previously interviewed and slow jammed the news with President Obama in April 2012 during a special “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” broadcast from the campus of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Pierce Brosnan is set to headline upcoming AMC drama The Son. The series is a multi-generational epic tale of America’s birth as a superpower through the bloody rise and fall of one Texas family. Brosnan will play Eli, the head of the McCullough family. The role was originally awarded to Sam Neill, who opted to vacate the project for personal reasons. Production begins in Austin later this month and is slated to debut in 2017.

The second season of Supergirl, now on The CW, will feature another super popular superhero: Superman. According to Warner Bros., “The iconic character of Superman will first be seen visiting his cousin Kara in National City at the beginning of the series’ second season.” Casting is underway.

Shark Week returns to Discovery Channel on Sunday, June 26 thru Sunday, July 3. Action begins with Tiger Beach starring Dr. Neil Hammerschlag, the world’s leading tiger shark expert.

CMT has added to the roster of performers at the 2016 CMT Music Awards. Count on Carrie Underwood, Pitbull, Leona Lewis and Cassadee Pope to take the stage on Wednesday, June 8 at 8p.

The list of presenters for The 70th Annual Tony Awards, airing Sunday, June 12 at 8p on CBS, is also expanding. The latest additions are: Uzo Aduba, Claire Danes, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Jake Gyllenhaal, Neil Patrick Harris, Sean Hayes, James Earl Jones, Daniel Dae Kim, Diane Lane, Angela Lansbury, Lucy Liu, Marlee Matlin, Andrew Rannells and Blair Underwood.

PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

NCIS: Los Angeles creator Shane Brennan has inked a new two-year overall deal with CBS TV Studios for his production company Shane Brennan Productions. Brennan will focus on development and remain as an executive producer on NCIS: LA. However, he will step down as showrunner after steering the drama for its first seven seasons. The show’s longtime EP, R. Scott Gemmill, will take over.

AMC and Sony Pictures Television are teaming to develop journalist David Carr’s bestselling memoir “The Night of the Gun” as a six-part miniseries on AMC. Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul) is attached to play Carr, who died last year, and Shawn Ryan (The Shield) is attached to write. Odenkirk and Ryan will also executive produce, along with Marc Provissiero of Odenkirk-Provissiero and Joshua Astrachan of Animal Kingdom. Eileen Myers (Masters of Sex) is also attached as an executive producer and writer.

CBS has joined TF1 (France) and Corus’ Global (Canada) in greenlighting 13 episodes of suspense drama series Ransom from global studio Entertainment One (eOne), Big Light Productions and producers Sienna Films and Wildcats Productions. Starring Luke Roberts (Black Sails, Game of Thrones), Ransom follows crisis and hostage negotiator Eric Beaumont (Roberts), whose team is brought in to save lives when no one else can.

Telemundo Studios and Keshet International inked a deal to co-develop and produce a Spanish-language series to air on Telemundo. It will be the first Spanish-language original production to be developed under the KI banner. Perla Farias, SVP, scripted development, will lead development for Telemundo Studios, while KI’s head of Latin America, Kelly Wright, will oversee the project on behalf of the distribution and production group.

COMING UP

GSN’s Skin Wars presents a breast cancer awareness episode on Wednesday, June 8 at 9p, with five young survivors serving as body paint models. The women, volunteers of Young Survival Coalition, work with the artists who paint a representation of their breast cancer journey.

Outlander‘s Book Two finale will air Saturday, July 9 at 9p on Starz with a special 90-minute episode. Brianna (Sophie Skelton) and Roger Wakefield (Richard Rankin) will be introduced in the episode. Ahead of the finale, Starz will air a marathon of the first 12 episodes of Book Two, beginning Saturday, July 2 at 12p.

Discovery Education will broadcast an exclusive virtual field trip for students around the world on June 10 at 9:30a, celebrating the 90th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II. The special will transport students to Windsor Castle in England for an exploration of The Queen’s life and a celebration of Britain’s longest reigning monarch.

NEW & RETURNING SERIES

CNBC’s West Texas Investors Club makes its sophomore season premiere tonight at 10p. “This season, West Texas Investors Club really came into its own. The businesses we brought down to Texas got bigger and better and Butch and Rooster’s core value of helping the little guy really came to life,” executive producer Charlie Ebersol, Founder and CEO of The Company, tells Cynopsis. “This season we’ve got higher stakes and bigger investments – this season is the realization of our original vision.”

Season 3 of TLC’s My Big Fat Fabulous Life, premieres Wednesday, June 8 at 9p. Whitney Thore faces the challenge of a lifetime, when hidden secrets are revealed and her family and friends call into question her actions.

Six-part television event Ghosts of Shepherdstown premieres Sunday, June 12 at 10p on Destination America. Series follows the real-life 911 calls that haunt Shepherdstown, West Virginia, as paranormal investigators try to find the reasoning behind them.

New duos take on extreme wilderness obstacles in the upcoming season of Discovery’s Dual Survival, bowing Wednesday, June 15 at 9p. The series features survivalists from different backgrounds, relying on minimal resources and tools.

Home renovation and fantasy destinations unite in new HGTV series, Beachfront Bargain Hunt: Renovation. Premiering Saturday, July 2 at 9p, the show follows home buyers as they purchase oceanfront fixer uppers and transform them into idyllic vacation getaways. HGTV also debuts new seasons of four fantasy lifestyle favorites, including Beachfront Bargain Hunt on Sunday, July 3 at 8p and 8:30p; Mexico Life on Sunday, July 3 at 9p and 9:30p; Island Hunters on Sunday, July 3 at 10p and 10:30p; and Caribbean Life on Sunday, August 28 at 9p and 9:30p.

House flips, yard overhauls and more are on the way this summer when DIY Network premieres fresh seasons of six series. Yard Crashers returns Monday, July 11, at 10p; Texas Flip and Move debuts Friday, July 15, at 9p; Salvage Dawgs is back Sunday, July 31, at 9p; Blog Cabin bows Monday, August 1 at 9:30p; House Crashers premieres Monday, August 29 at 10p and 10:30p and First Time Flippers returns Saturday, September 24, at 9p.

CASTING

Carla Pope (Tomorrow People) has nabbed a recurring role on Season 6 of USA Network drama Suits. She’ll play Tara Messer, a cultured and perceptive commercial architect.

Justified’s Raymond J. Barry will recur on Season 4 of Showtime’s Roy Donovan. He’ll portray a high-ranking Russian mobster.

GLOBAL GOINGS ON

GRB Entertainment has struck deals with MediaSet, RAI and Discovery for several of its European channels. MediaSet Italy has acquired paranormal series When Ghosts Attack and Angels Among Us. RAI Italy took documentary Expeditions to the Edge. Discovery Italy took Confessions: Animal Hoarding, originally produced for Animal Planet, as well as Season 1 of transactional docu-series Auction Kings for channels in France, Benelux, Italy, and the Nordic territories. Discovery picked up Auction Kings for Spain.

Ericsson has signed an exclusive multi-year contract with FOX Networks Group Middle East to provide playout services for three new HD channels. FOX Action Movies, FOX Family Movies and FX will be broadcast from Ericsson’s broadcast and media services hub in Abu Dhabi and available 24 hours a day.

Peace Point Rights and Cisneros Media Distribution announced an agreement naming Peace Point the exclusive distributor for CMD’s unscripted titles in multiple international territories.Initial titles include the news special End of Days, children’s educational series Super Genius, celebrity entertainment series Talk the Walk, Olympic documentary series Flame of Passion, and the reality series’ SHÄK and XRC.

DIGITAL DOINGS

AT&T and the Chernin Group have joined forces to unveil a new video subscription bundle that targets viewers interested in anime, video games, niche action sports and other fare, according to Variety. The new platform is being developed by Ellation, part of the Otter Media joint venture that AT&T and Chernin formed in 2014. One of Ellation’s key assets is anime video subscription service Crunchyroll, which has some 800,000 paying subscribers.

Crackle, Sony’s free streaming network, has released the trailer for season eight of Jerry Seinfeld’s Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. Premiering Thursday, June 16, the new season features six original episodes to stream weekly beginning Thursday, June 16. Guests set to appear this season include Margaret Cho, Lorne Michaels, Jim Gaffigan, John Oliver, JB Smoove and Judd Apatow.

Netflix is partnering with Phantom Films on Sacred Games, a thriller based on the best-selling novel by Vikram Chandra. The Hindi- and English-language series will feature a local and international cast. It will be shot on location in Mumbai and available globally.

ABC Talent and Casting has launched its fourth annual ABC Discovers: Digital Talent Competition. The event takes place through Friday, June 17 and aims to discover actors who may not have had the opportunity to be seen yet by a team of professional casting executives. Actors 18 and older are encouraged to visit ABCDiscovers.com to enter the contest for the chance to receive a one-year $25,000 talent deal with the net. The top ten finalists and their entries will be posted to the website Friday, July 22, and the 2016 winner will be announced Tuesday, July 26.

Marriott’s Content Studio has renewed Moxy Hotels’ Do Not Disturb for a second season. Host and comedienne Taryn Southern returns for new episodes that takes her to two of Moxy’s newest hotels, Moxy New Orleans and Moxy Berlin.  Series premieres Fall 2016 and will air weekly on MoxyHotels.com and Moxy’s YouTube Channel.

RATINGS

Moved from NBC to Fox (with a pit stop last year at Reelz, courtesy of the Donald Trump controversy), Sunday’s Miss Universe pageant dropped 27 percent in total viewers (4 million) and 21 percent among A18-49 (1.1/4) versus 2014. The contest had tough competition in Game 2 of the NBA finals on ABC, which averaged 13.4 million viewers and 5.1/16 in the demo.

TLC ranked as the #1 female network on Sunday nights among W25-54 in May, driven by the season return of Sister Wives, which averaged 2 million P2+ viewers. The network’s Sunday night was up double to triple-digits among HH, P2+ and P/W25-54/18-49/18-34 versus 2015.

Velocity scored delivery highs for the month of May, earning 56 consecutive months of year-over-year growth in Total Day Delivery for HH and P2+ and 14 consecutive months of year-over-year growth in Primetime Delivery among P2+.

Investigation Discovery (ID) had its best May ever in prime delivery among P2+, HH, P25-54, W25-54 and P18-49, maintaining its position as a top 10 network (#9 slot) in ad-supported cable for Prime YTD delivery of W25-54. Year-to-date, ID is the #2 network for W25-54 in total day among all ad-supported cable.

Discovery Channel had its highest-rated May ever among P25-54 and its most-watched May ever (P2+).  It was also the highest-rated May ever among households. Alaskan Bush People led the way as the month’s #1 Friday cable series, driving the highest-rated May Fridays ever across P/W25-54 and W18-49 as well as the most-watched ever in P2+.

Bravo’s Southern Charm (5/23) delivered its most-watched episode in series history with 1.8 million total viewers. In addition, The Real Housewives of New York City (5/25) hit a season high among all key demos, delivering 1.2 million P18-49, 1.5 million P25-54 and 2.5 million total viewers. Million Dollar Listing New York (5/26) delivered its highest ratings of the season to-date among all key demos, earning 780,000 P18-49 (up 5 percent versus the prior week’s episode), 910,000 P25-54 (up 4 percent) and 1.7 million total viewers (up 5 percent).

In May, Science Channel delivered its third consecutive month of year-over-year ratings growth among P25-54 in L+3. In Total Day, Science Channel delivered its highest rated May ever among Adults/Men/Women 25-54, A18-49 and total viewers P2+, no exclusions. Growth was balanced between Men and Women – in Primetime, ratings in key demos including Adults/Men/Women 25-54 were up versus May 2015, and in Total Day ratings, the network was up double digits in key demos, up 21 percent among M25-54 and up 29 percent among W25-54, in addition to being up 18 percent among A25-54 and up 10 percent in total viewers P2+ for the month versus May 2015.

Friday A18-49 Analysis: NBC won the most A18-49 viewers Friday with 1.0/4, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. NBC’s America’s Got Talent grabbed the top spot at 8p with 0.9/4, followed by ABC’s Beyond the Tank with 0.7/3. At 9p, Univision’s Copa America was #1 with 1.0/5; NBC’s America’s Got Talent was close behind with 1.0/4.
