Muhammad Ali, the larger than life boxer, died Friday at age 74 after a three decades-long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Among his myriad achievements, Ali revolutionized televised boxing, drawing devotees of the sport and fans of his huge persona alike to the small screen. Television coverage of his passing over the weekend included numerous tributes and retrospectives; Bounce TV joins the chorus with a special presentation of 1977’s The Greatest, starring Ali as himself, tonight at 10p.
At its 70th anniversary gala last Thursday the Television Academy officially cut the ribbon on its state-of-the-art 61,000-square-foot Saban Media Center at its North Hollywood campus. Networks ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox all received the Academy’s Hall of Fame Cornerstone award.
Another woman down on The View. News broke Friday that Michelle Collins is the latest to depart the ABC daytime talker. Collins has made only scant appearances on the show since the beginning of the year.
Dominic Purcell, star of Fox’s event series Prison Break, sustained a broken nose and head injury on the set of the drama, which is filming in Morocco, when a set piece dislodged and fell on him. Purcell is expected to make a full recovery.
NBC competition series Strong crowned its first winning team on June 2 as Texas-based strength and conditioning coach Bennie Wylie and Minnesota mom Jill May won the final “Tower” competition to take home the prize of $300,000. Wylie and May will be featured doing their Strong workout curriculum on “Daily Burn,” an at-home streaming fitness program, starting Wednesday, June 8.
PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT
TV Land ordered a second season order of Lopez, starring and executive-produced by stand-up comedian and actor George Lopez. The series, which revolves around George’s struggle with wanting to give back to the Latino community but also feeling as though he can never satisfy all the demands placed on him by both the celebrity world and his hometown, currently airs Wednesdays at 10p; finale is slated for Wednesday, June 22.
Comedy Central gave a series order to pilot Corporate, a satirical workplace comedy that follows two junior execs who are forced to do the dirty work of the higher-ups at one of the world’s largest corporations. Series was written by and stars Matt Ingebretson, along with Jake Weisman and Pat Bishop, who are all members of the all-male sketch group Women.
Director/producer Brad Buecker has signed an overall deal with 20th Century Fox Television. Buecker, a longtime collaborator of Ryan Murphy, also based at Fox, will continue to exec-produce FX/20th TV’s American Horror Story, co-created and executive-produced by Murphy, and develop new projects.

On what would have been Prince’s 58th birthday, June 7, Bounce TV will honor the musical genius with a double feature of Graffiti Bridge, the sequel to Oscar-winning film Purple Rain at 10p, followed by 1986 dramedy Under the Cherry Moon at midnight.
NEW & RETURNING SERIES
Investigation Discovery will premiere its first serialized docu-series, six-part The Vanishing Women, tonight (June 6) at 10p. Series focuses on Chillicothe, Ohio, the town where six young women have gone missing or been found dead in the past year and a half. The women, all in their 20s and 30s, are believed to have known each other and all have ties to the dark underbelly of this small town, leading the local community to fear a serial killer on the loose. “We all know how impactful the media can be in our justice system, and with Investigation Discovery being the leading authority in true crime programming, we have a unique opportunity and, indeed, maybe even the responsibility – to use our platform to elevate this investigation to a national level. It is our hope that The Vanishing Women will result in fresh leads or new information that can bring the perpetrator or perpetrators – to justice for these six missing and deceased women,” Henry Schleiff, Group president, ID, American Heroes Channel and Destination America, tells Cynopsis.
Season three of TNT’s Murder In the First kicks off Sunday, June 19, at 10p with homicide Inspectors Terry English and Hildy Mulligan investigating the murder of an all-star quarterback the middle of a crowded club. The ep is directed by Jesse Bochco; story by Steven Bochco & Jonathan Abrahams.
Disney XD will debut Counterfeit Cat on Monday, June 20 at 12:30p. From Tricon Kids & Family and Wildseed Kids, the animated series follows the adventures of Max and Gark, the former a real cat and the latter a small blue alien in a purple cat costume.
Described as “forever fierce, forever fabulous and forever flawless,” EJ Johnson hits the Big Apple in the EJNYC, the Rich Kids of Beverly Hills spinoff that premieres on E! on Sunday, June 19 at 11p before moving to Wednesdays at 9p on June 22. The six-part series features glitz and glam from an all-new perspective as Johnson, alongside his “glamtourage” take New York… In more E! news, season 2 of WAGS returns Sunday, June 26 at 10p.
Golden Globe-winning actor/producer Idris Elba will use his body, mind and engineering know-how to race on land, water and in the air for new four-part Discovery series Idris Elba No Limits. Premiering Monday, July 4 at 7p the series is part of Discovery’s Motor Monday lineup. Each ep starts with Elba visiting a motor sport competition, shot on locations across Florida, California and the British Isles.
Food Network is grilling up a new batch of competition, starting with the premiere of Chopped Grill Masters Napa, premiering Tuesday, July 5 at 10p; at 11p that night the net will debut a new season of Chopped After Hours. A new season of Cooks vs. Cons begins Sunday, July 10t at 10p, followed by new episodes of Cupcake Wars beginning Monday, July 11 at 8p. One eliminated Food Network Star finalist finds redemption on Sunday, July 24 at 8p in the special Star Salvation. In daytime, country music star Trisha Yearwood returns for a new season of Trisha’s Southern Kitchen on Saturday, July 30 at 10:30a and Giada De Laurentiis travels back to her birthplace on an all-new season of Giada in Italy on Sunday, July 31 at noon.
CASTING
Starz and FremantleMedia North America announced Gillian Anderson (The X-Files) will play Media in the upcoming adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s acclaimed contemporary fantasy novel, American Gods, to air on Starz.
Alyson Hannigan and Megan Hilty are onboard as leads in the TV Land pilot The First Wives Club, reports Deadline. The series is a reboot of the 1996 Paramount feature.
Hunter King, who had a recurring role on CBS freshman series Life In Pieces, has been called up to series regular for season 2. With her promotion on the series, King will scale back her co-starring role on soap The Young and the Restless.
Lots of changes at CBS freshman series Code Black. Series regulars Bonnie Somerville and Raza Jaffrey are departing the medical drama and two recurring players, Jillian Murray and Boris Kodjoe, are now regulars on the show.
DIGITAL DOINGS
NBA TV will run primetime special Allen Iverson: The Answer during its 2016 Finals coverage tonight (June 6) at 8p. The fearless and sometimes misunderstood Iverson looks back at his Hall of Fame playing career and the moments that made him one of the most talked about figures in NBA history.

The final night of A+E Networks’ reimagined Roots miniseries, which wrapped Thursday, June 2, logged 4.2 million viewers airing simultaneously across History, A&E and Lifetime against heavy competition from the sports sector. The premiere night on Monday, May 30 logged 5.3 million total viewers.
ABC came out victorious after game 1 of the NBA finals, Cleveland at Golden State, last Thursday night. The game was watched by 19.2 million viewers with a 7.3 rating among A18-49, making it the most watched NBA Finals opener ever on the network.

ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel pregame show and NBA Countdown topped at 8p with a combined 1.6/7, followed by a 1.4/6 average for CBS’s Big Bang Theory and Life In Pieces. ABC stormed the court at 9p with coverage of the NBA finals Cleveland at Golden State, scoring 6.1/22, followed by a 0.9/4 average for Mom and Odd Couple on CBS. ABC held the lead at 10p, with game coverage reaching 7.8/26, followed by Telemundo’s Senor de los Cielos with 1.0/4.

NBCU finalized a deal for Pearlena Igbokwe to become president of Universal Television. Igbokwe, most recently was head of drama for NBC; she replaces Bela Bajaria, who exited the post last week.
James Oh joined Warner Bros TV-based Jerry Bruckheimer Television as SVP. An 18-year Fox veteran, Oh most recently was Fox SVP of drama programming and development.
Comedy Central promoted Sarah Babineau to SVP, original programming and development. Since joining Comedy Central in 2014 as VP, original programming and development, East Coast, Babineau has been a key player in the evolution of the net’s late night lineup.
Studio Canal COO Romain Bessi has parted ways with the Vivendi-owned European film and TV behemoth.
Much & House Public Relations has rebranded as East 2 West and is expanding. Elizabeth Much, who cofounded the agency with Sharon House, will serve as CEO. Additionally, Heather Weiss has been promoted from VP to COO. The agency’s new NY office, AMCONYC, is being run by Adriana Marie, and a new Nashville office will be headed by new CFO Catia Salvadori.
