He’s really big in Germany. National Geographic Channels International commissioned one-hour special Hasselhoff vs. the Berlin Wall, commemorating the 25th anniversary of the fall of the barrier, with David Hasselhoff (Baywatch) taking viewers on "an incredible personal journey back to Berlin" to retrace the Wall’s history. "I witnessed firsthand the horror and the pain the East Germans experienced throughout their unwavering fight for freedom," said the Hoff, whose version of "Looking for Freedom," released in 1989, hit number one on the music chart in former West Germany.

IN THE NEWS

Lara Logan is back to work at 60 Minutes after a 7-month suspension. The correspondent took leave after an October 27 report on the attacks on the U.S. mission in Benghazi was discredited.

MSNBC canceled low-rated 4p weekend political talker Disrupt with Karen Finney; the last airdate was June 1. Finney will remain with the network as a contributor.

The CW is launching a five-hour Saturday morning programming block, "One Magnificent Morning," in association with Litton Entertainment. Among the educational shows targeting young viewers from 7a-noon: Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan: Family Edition, vet series Calling Dr. Pol and animal-centric Expedition Wild. Litton also programs educational blocks for ABC and CBS.

One by one, the cast of ABC Family‘s Pretty Little Liars will appear on E! News every weekday next week at 7p to promote the launch of the drama’s summer premiere. PLL is back Tuesday, June 10 at 8p.

Fusion has enlisted social media management company Local Measure to enhance viewers’ second screen experience of the World Cup tournament in Brazil. The net’s producers will have exclusive access to Local Measure’s alert service, which flags engaging and socially influential content published across a range of social media platforms, allowing Fusion to suss out stories and memorable moments shared by fans inside the stadiums.

Food Network has started using Delivery Agent’s commerce platform to serve products from over 50 shows and 30 chefs and hosts at foodnetworkstore.com. "We are now connecting our fans more closely to their favorite shows by offering them the opportunity to own a piece of those shows," said Bob Madden, SVP of digital food properties for Scripps Networks Interactive.

After protracted negotiations with 20th Century Fox Television, Modern Family co-creator/exec producer Christopher Lloyd reached an agreement that will bring him back to work on season six of the hit ABC comedy. Co-creator Steve Levitan closed his deal in March.

With a deadline looming and unable to find a network home for the Daytime Emmy Awards, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced the ceremony will be live-streamed at www.daytimeemys.net on Sunday, June 22.

The season two premiere of ABC documentary series NY Med has been moved to Thursday, June 26 at 10p. The original debut date was June 24.

CBS‘s Big Brother is finally going HDTV, reports Vulture. The reality show was the only regularly scheduled primetime show in standard def, owing to the daunting task of having to transition dozens of cameras that record thousands of hours of footage every week, and the need for a new digital post-production system. Season 16 premieres Wednesday, June 25 at 8p, crisp and clear.

WE tv and The Paley Center for Media have partnered for a panel on four decades of TV crime drama heroines, and a commemoration of the 40th anniversary of Police Woman, on June 19 at The Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills. Police Woman’s Angie Dickinson will be part of the program, along with S. Epatha Merkerson (Law & Order), Emily Deschanel (Bones), Marin Ireland (The Divide, debuting on WE tv Wednesday, July 16 at 9p), Tony Goldwyn (Scandal, The Divide), Poppy Montgomery (Unforgettable, Without a Trace), Holly Robinson Peete (21 Jump Street) and Marg Helgenberger (CSI: Crime Scene Investigation).

HBO chairman and CEO Richard Plepler and anchor and journalist Charlie Rose will be honored Wednesday, June 11 at the Museum of the Moving Image‘s annual benefit.

The  BBC has commissioned I Survived a Zombie Apocalypse for youth net BBC Three. The walking dead-themed game show from Tiger Aspect has contestants trapped in a shopping mall surrounded by "zombies." Said exec producer Andew Brereton, "It’s nice to finally have a game show where if you get a challenge wrong, you get your arms ripped off and your brains eaten out."

 
MaddAddam, based on a trilogy by author Margaret Atwood, is in development at HBO, reports Deadline. It’s the first project borne of Darren Aronofsky‘s three-year, first-look deal with the net.

The Africa Channel will stream the memorial service for Maya Angelou online at www.theafricachannel.com starting 10a on Saturday, June 7. Technical constraints prompted a change from the original plan to air the service on the network. Writer and civil rights activist Angelou died May 28 at age 86.

DISH has added Fusion (channel 244), targeting young, multicultural viewers, to its lineup. Saying the net "speaks to a diverse new generation," DISH VP of marketing Alfredo Rodriguez added, "DISH’s overall lineup is greatly enhanced by Fusion, helping us to better connect with an important viewing demographic that is an increasingly influential member of today’s marketplace." Fusion is a joint venture between Univision and Disney, which inked a distribution agreement with DISH in March.

Mexico’s MVS Multivision grabbed Homicide Hunter and Race to the Scene, while Globosat Brazil licensed Girls Guide to Depravity and renewed the Life on Top franchise.

 

 

RATINGS

 

The premiere of WE tv’s Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars delivered 1.33 million viewers P2+ in Live+3, ranking fifth among all cable nets in its Friday time period among W25-54 (631,000) and seventh among W18-49 (599,000).

 
Discovery‘s Deadliest Catch was the top cable program on Tuesday among Persons (3 million total viewers) and M25-54 (2.6 rating) and 18-49 (1.8) delivery; the series premiere of Siberian Cut ranked as the number two original cable program among M25-54 (1.1). The shows helped Discovery become the number one cable network on Tuesday night in M25-54 and M18-49.

 
Bravo was the number one ad-supported cable entertainment network among P18-49 on Sunday night. The Real Housewives of Atlanta: Kandi’s Wedding delivered over 2.4 million total viewers and over 1.2 million P18-49, according to Nielsen, and Married to Medicine scored 1.9 million total viewers and nearly 1 million P18-49. Preview specials for season six of The Real Housewives of New Jersey and new docu-series Game of Crowns delivered, respectively, over 1.6 million total viewers and 848,000 P18-49, and 900,000 total viewers and 475,000 P18-49.

 

Tuesday’s mid-season finale of 19 Kids & Counting drew 3 million viewers P2+. The episode was the series’ highest rated ever among HH (2.4), W25-54 (2.3), and P25-54 (1.5).

Film and TV historian and critic Steven H. Scheuer died on June 1 of congestive heart failure. He was 88. Scheuer founded TV Key, a daily column of listings and recommendations, and hosted All About TV on local channels in the New York. Yale University curates The Steven H. Scheuer Collection of Television Program Scripts, which number about 5000.
