With Steve Mosko out as chairman of Sony Pictures Television, the new executive chart has Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht, presidents of programming and production; Andy Kaplan, president of worldwide networks; Keith Le Goy, president of distribution, and Amy Carney, president of advertiser sales & research all reporting directly to Michael Lynton, CEO of Sony Entertainment. “I want to thank Steve for his many years of service at Sony Pictures and for helping to build SPT into the one of the strongest television studios in the business,” said Lynton. “We have incredibly strong leadership within our TV divisions. Zack and Jamie, Andy, Keith and Amy have contributed immeasurably to SPT’s success over the years, and bring the right energy, skill and sophistication to navigate a rapidly changing environment and lead our TV business to even greater heights.”
HBO grabbed Sesame Street last year, now Netflix has Julie Andrews. The Sound of Music star will play the leader of a performing arts company who works with puppets in live-action series Julie’s Greenroom, from the Jim Henson Co. Guests on deck include Alec Baldwin, Carol Burnett, Josh Groban, David Hyde Pierce and Idina Menzel, among others. Thirteen half-hour episodes are slated to debut in early 2017.
Warner Bros. has formed a new division, Warner Bros. Digital Networks, to dive deeper into direct-to-consumer entertainment. Current president of business strategy at Warner Bros. Television Group Craig Hunegs will lead the effort, tacking on the title of president of Warner Bros. Digital Networks. The new group includes DramaFever, WB’s investment in Machinima, its LeBron James partnership for digital, its interest in Ellen Digital Ventures, and SVOD service Warner Instant Archive. WBDN will also team with Turner and HBO on OTT services. “In today’s on-demand world, OTT gives us a really effective means to directly provide consumers the programming they want,” said Warner Bros. chairman and CEO Kevin Tsujihara. “By forming Warner Bros. Digital Networks, we’ll be able to operate more nimbly as we continue to develop and deliver on our digital strategy which will complement our industry-leading distribution business.”
The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees and the Association of Independent Commercial Producers reached a deal for a new three-year contract covering commercial production in the U.S. “We have achieved financial progress for our members and preserved labor stability in the production of commercials,” said IATSE International president Matthew Loeb. “Thousands of working people across the country will benefit from increases to wages, healthcare contributions, and pension gains when working on commercials.” New agreement takes effect October 1.
Music Choice is teaming up with Michigan International Speedway as the official music partner of Keloorah this summer. Music Choice is promoting the festival across all of its platforms, and Keloorah will include Music Choice in some pre-event marketing and promotional materials as well as provide access for fan activation and artist integration. Keloorah will take place on Friday and Saturday of each NASCAR weekend at Michigan International Speedway this summer.
NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises announced the launch of “El Poder En Ti,” aimed at empowering viewers to take action for a better life in areas of key importance to U.S. Hispanics: education, health, finance and civic engagement. The multi-platform initiative will be supported by a specialized website, digital tools and resources; PSAs will air across Telemundo, its stations and NBC Universo, as well as other NBC cable properties.
The ten finalists for Fuse and Vote Latino’s “Crash the Parties” national search for aspiring Latino reporters have been chosen by online voting on nearly 200 submissions. Two winners will go on to cover the Democratic and National conventions. To see the finalists and their videos, go here.

TV Land gave a 12-episode series pick-up to Nobodies, executive produced, written by and starring Groundlings alums Hugh Davidson, Larry Dorf and Rachel Ramras (Mike Tyson Mysteries) as three wannabes trying desperately to land one of their famous friends for a feature script they’ve developed. Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone will exec produce through their On the Day, with Falcone directing and guest starring in the pilot.
Liz Heldens (Mercy) inked a two-year overall deal with 20th Century Television, where she will become exec producer of the studio’s straight-to-series Seth MacFarlane comedic drama. “Liz began her career at 20th over a decade ago and we couldn’t be happier she’s returning under an overall deal,” said TCFTV president of creative affairs Jonnie Davis. “She’s a fantastic, soulful, gifted writer who has the unique dexterity to write both comedy and drama, often in the same scene.”
Six-part Everest Rescue (wt) from betty will air on Discovery Networks International and Discovery Channel later this year. The series follows elite search and rescue units responding to emergencies on the world’s highest mountain, where an avalanche killed 22 people in 2015. It’s not Discovery’s first trip to the site – Everest Jump Live, planned for 2014, was scrapped due to a devastating avalanche, eventually replaced by a documentary about rescue efforts.

CBS’s The Late Late Show host James Corden appears on NBC time slot rival Late Night With Seth Meyer on Wednesday, June 8, ahead of his Sunday, June 12 gig hosting the Tony Awards on CBS. That’s hardly the only Tonys plug ahead – EW reports Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel Miranda will have a seat in Corden’s Carpool Karaoke, along with fellow Broadway stars Audra McDonald (Shuffle Along), Modern Family’s Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Fully Committed), and 30 Rock’s Jane Krakowski (She Loves Me) on Monday, June 6.
CMT announced more cross-genre collaborations for the 2016 CMT Music Awards, airing Wednesday, June 8 at 8p. Singer/songwriter Dierks Bentley joins Elle King, and Billy Ray Cyrus takes to the stage for a mash-up with Cheap Trick. Erin Andrews and J.J. Watt host live from Nashville.
New research is showing that endangered elephants are adapting in ways never seen before, reveals Nat Geo Wild’s Mind of a Giant, premiering Sunday, June 19 at 9p. “The dedicated scientists and conservationists featured here are pushing the boundaries of elephant research to reveal a smarter, more thoughtful animal than ever known before,” said Geoff Daniels, net EVP and GM.
HGTV returns to the CMA Music Festival with the HGTV Lodge from Thursday, June 9 to Sunday, June 12, offering festival-goers in Nashville the chance to see live performances and grab autographs (and for VIP loungers, air conditioning). “We’re giving our fans a one-of-a-kind experience in a venue that is unlike any other at the Festival,” said Shannon Jamieson Driver, SVP, network marketing and creative services, Scripps Networks Interactive. “We’re back in a big way to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the HGTV Lodge.”
A supersized (one hour) episode of Spike TV’s Lip Sync Battle airs Thursday, June 9 at 8p, featuring Star Trek Beyond stars Zoe Saldana and Zachary Quinto, along with “surprise A-list celebrity guest stars.” The latest film in the Star Trek franchise is released July 22.

HITN, along with The Puerto Rico Public Broadcasting Corporation, is presenting the world premiere of historical film La Llamarada. Inspired by the classic literature of Puerto Rican writer Enrique Laguerre, the made-for-TV movie will air Monday, June 6 at 8p.
Busy Melissa McCarthy appears on HSN Sunday, June 5 at 2p and 7p with the summer collection from her Melissa McCarthy Seven7 line. The Mike & Molly star launched the line in fall 2015.

Season five of IFC’s Comedy Bang! Bang! launches tonight at 11p and 11:30p with new bandleader and co-host “Weird Al” Yankovic, and special guest Kevin Bacon. “I’m particularly excited about the season premiere of Comedy Bang! Bang!,” Yankovic tells Cynopsis, “because it officially brings my ‘Degrees of Kevin Bacon’ number to ‘1’!”
Are Alcatraz’s jail cells being transformed into luxury micro-apartments? Was the Statue of Liberty modeled after a (rest room conundrum!) a man? Discovery’s Secrets of America’s Favorite Places offers up fascinating facts over the course of eight episodes this summer, starting Sunday, July 3 at 6p.
My Selfie Life bows on Fusion on Monday, June 6 at 10p. Each episode of the docu-series centers on a major experience in one person’s life, from tracking down a lost love to a sex change to defeating an eating disorder. The show is adapted from a UK series of four shorts produced by Nerd TV.
Fluffy mattresses turned into knives? Can do, according to Science Channel’s new Made by Destruction. Series exploring the ingenious ways junk is reinvented launches Monday, June 6 at 10p.
HGTV’s America’s Most Desperate Kitchens returns to rescued harried homeowners on Wednesday, July 13 at 8p and 8:30p. “In the video submissions, we’ve seen everything from cramped spaces and overflowing cabinets to broken appliances and plumbing that’s held together with tape,” said kitchen whiz John Colaneri, who will be working with cousin Anthony Carrino on remodels.
Hallmark greenlit a third season of Good Witch, currently averaging a 2.3 HH rating and 2.5 million viewers in Live+3. Season two finale airs Sunday, June 19 at 9p. Production commences in Toronto in August, including a Halloween (of course!) special.
UnReal was renewed for season three on Lifetime, ahead of its season two launch on Monday, June 6. “UnReal is that rare series that redefines a network. It not only reflects culture, but pushes culture forward by creating television’s first female antihero,” said Liz Gateley, EVP and head of programming for Lifetime. “We are thrilled about the new ground we will break with season three while continuing our work with the incredible A+E Studios as we together build Lifetime’s Fempire.” The critically acclaimed series has averaged 3.7 million viewers across platforms.
Anglo-French period drama Versailles, following the rise of King Louis XIV and the Chateau de Versailles in 17th century France, makes its debut on Ovation TV on Saturday, October 1.

FOX Television Stations, Trifecta and Popsugar partner for a four-week daily preview of So-Me, a series focused on the day’s trending news topics. Show premieres Monday, July 11on select FOX-owned stations WNYW and WWOR New York, KTTV and KCOP LA, WDCA Washington DC, KTVU San Francisco, KSAZ Phoenix and KMSP Minneapolis.
Seven FOX Television Stations will air a three-week test of gossip show Page Six TV, slated to start Monday, July 18: WNYW New York, KTTV Los Angeles, WTXF Philadelphia, KDFW Dallas, WAGA Atlanta, WJBK Detroit and WTVT Tampa. The half-hour strip will run the kinds of celeb items that appear in the New York Post, home of the Page Six column.
Also getting a test of FOX TV Stations: five-day-a-week one-hour strip The Jason Show, hosted by Minneapolis’s KMSP entertainment news anchor Jason Matheson. The national launch was announced in April; this week Fox revealed the show, which premiered in Minneapolis in August, will get a four-week national try-out starting Monday on KMSP at 10a, KTTV in LA at 1p, KDFW in Dallas at 2p and Phoenix’s KSAZ at 2p. “This show is the first of what we hope to be a series of shows developed at our O&Os,” said Stephen Brown, EVP, programming and development, Fox Television Stations.
Season four of Lauren Lake’s Paternity Court launches production on June 6 in Atlanta. The courtroom series is cleared in 85 percent of the country.

Katie Findlay (How to Get Away With Murder) will star in Go90 original musical series Pulse, premiering this fall, as an aspiring musician drawn into the Berlin dance club scene.

The NBA is A-okay with networks this season. As of this week, through three rounds of playoffs TNT, ESPN and ABC all boast higher ad revenues than last year, for a total of $436.7 million, up 12 percent, according to iSpot.tv. Biggest national TV spenders include Kia ($14.3 million), Samsung Mobile ($14.0 million), Taco Bell ($11.6 million), State Farm ($10.6 million) and American Express ($9.7 million).
GLOBAL GOINGS ON
Discovery Communications struck a new TV and multi-platform broadcast agreement for the Olympic Games with Croatian Radiotelevision (HRT), the public broadcaster in Croatia. The deal makes the 2018 and 2020 Olympic Games available to Croatian viewers on HRT channels as well as on the company’s Eurosport.
Shark Week will air in over 220 countries and territories this summer, for the first time launching on the same day on Discovery Channel and Discovery Espanol in the U.S., as well as Canada, the UK and Argentina on June 26.
Singapore-based Bomanbridge Media inked a deal with Canada’s Omnifilm Entertainment Ltd. to be the exclusive Asian distributor for Omnifilm factual titles including Jade Fever, Ice Pilots and Namaste Yoga. All told, the agreement covers 222 hours of programming.
In a deal with U.S.-based Pop Monkey Productions and UK indie FUNdamental Television, DRG acquired international format rights to comedy game show In the Dark. The show has been updated for a younger demo.
Canada’s CBC greenlit Snapshots, an unscripted live-action kids competition series from Forte Entertainment and Headtrip Films. In each episode, three children participate in photo challenges to test their creativity, ingenuity and passion.

Good news all around: Fox News Channel was the number one basic cable channel for the month of May in total day in total viewers (1.17 million, up 19 percent), and ranked number three in prime (2 million total viewers, up 26 percent), after sports-charged TBS and ESPN. CNN delivered a not-too-shabby 584,000 total viewers in total day (up 33 percent) and 891,000 (up 55 percent) in primetime, while MSNBC was up 66 percent in total day (481,000 total viewers) and a whopping 78 percent (824,000) in prime.
On Memorial Day, the second episode of Food Network’s Kids BBQ Championship, part of the net’s 8p co-viewing strategy, had 15 percent of A25-54 tuning with a P2-17, a 40 percent increase over year-ago co-viewing levels. Ranking 9th across all ad-supported cable in the time slot, the episode posted a .5 rating A25-54, up 9 percent versus year-ago.
The season eight premiere of NBC’s American Ninja Warrior tied its 1.8/7 A18-49 season seven bow, but had its most-watched launch ever with 6.27 million viewers. Fox’s MasterChef returned for season seven with 1.1/5 in the demo, a one tenth dip from the season prior.
TV One’s Memorial Day Weekend marathon of Empire’s first and second season helped deliver the Best Memorial Weekend (Saturday, May 28 – Monday, May 30) performance in network history in primetime and total day among all key demos. Memorial Day Weekend, including the two day marathon of the series, reached 7 million Unique Total Viewers and delivered the #1 telecast on broadcast and ad-supported cable among Black Women 25-54 on May 29.
Opposite the premieres of two fellow reality shows, Wednesday’s season finale of ABC’s 500 Questions was up 18 percent from the previous night in total viewers (to 4.5 million), its biggest audience since its season premiere.
Azteca America finished May as the fastest growing Spanish-language network in prime time among key demos, including A18-49 and A18-34, with 59 percent and 80 percent year-over-year growth, respectively, according to Nielsen. The network also delivered its highest May ratings in four years across all demos and experienced year-over-year growth across all four hours of prime time among A18-49.
Wednesday A18-49 Analysis: NBC had the most A18-49 viewers Wednesday with 1.5/6, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. NBC’s American Ninja Warrior topped 8p with 1.7/7, followed by Fox’s MasterChef with 1.2/5. Warrior held the lead at 9p with 1.8/7, versus .9/3 for CBS’s Criminal Minds. NBC’s Night Shift led at 10p with 1.1/4; Telemundo’s Senor de los Cielos placed second with .9/3.
