IN THE NEWS

ABC changed its game plan for Sundays. Biblical drama Of Kings and Prophets is off the fall lineup for now, headed for retooling. Fellow freshman Quantico gets an upgrade from Tuesday to Sunday at 10p, joining Once Upon a Time and Blood & Oil.

ESPN senior writer LZ Granderson is joining ABC News as a contributor. “LZ has a unique voice with a deep knowledge across a broad spectrum of subjects,” said ABC News president James Goldston in a memo to staff yesterday. Granderson will continue to work at the sports channel.

A Verizon Wireless press release cited “a total of nine named storms expected this season by The Weather Channel” in a statement assuring customers that they can count on Verizon network centers to withstand extreme weather events. But Verizon FiOs customers can’t count on getting The Weather Channel, since it was dropped by the cable provider in March. Still, “We appreciate that at least Verizon consults The Weather Channel, and our deep and always live hurricane experts, for their wireless customers," Shirley Powell, EVP, marketing and communications for The Weather Company, tells Cynopsis.

Subscription TV companies didn’t exactly ace the latest American Customer Satisfaction Index. In the annual survey of 70,000 customers, subscription TV tied Internet service providers with a score of 63 out of 100, the worst of the 43 industries covered. “There was a time when pay TV could get away with discontented users without being penalized by revenue losses from defecting customers,” said Claes Fornell, ACSI chairman and founder but those days are over.”

PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

EXCLUSIVE: Jerry Kolber, creator and exec producer of Nat Geo’s Brain Games, and his Atomic Entertainment partner Adam Davis closed a series option deal for the just-released book, “Judy & Liza & Robert & Freddie & David & Sue & Me…: A Memoir”, by Hollywood super-agent, Stevie Phillips. “Atomic is always interested in stories about smart people who succeed because of their ingenuity,” Kolber tells Cynopsis. “It’s no accident that Stevie was the only woman who rose to such heights in the male-dominated Mad Men era of Hollywood and we felt her story and all the behind the scenes drama was a perfect fit for our sensibilities. The list of A-list showrunners and stars who are considering working with us on this scripted series is humbling, and we’re grateful for the opportunity.”
