Sony Pictures Television Chairman Steve Mosko is exiting the studio after 24 years. Mosko, upped from President of the company last year, was in negotiations to extend his contract but reportedly failed to come to terms, according to Variety. Mosko was behind hits including Breaking Bad, The Blacklist and Shark Tank.

Over 300 employees at 21st Century Fox have accepted buyout offers, part of a $250 million spending cut announced in February. Most 15+-year employees in Fox’s film and television divisions were offered enhanced benefits packages if they resigned by the end of May 2016.

Don Mischer is returning to executive produce the 68th Primetime Emmy Awards airing Sunday, September 18 at 7p on ABC. Mischer Productions’ Charlie Haykel and Juliane Hare are serving as co-executive producers. “We’re honored to be producing the Emmys for ABC and the Television Academy. We love Jimmy Kimmel,” said Mischer, referring to this year’s host. “He brings a level of smart humor, fun and unpredictability, which is the perfect combination for this show.” Mischer produced the 67th Emmy Awards, hosted by Andy Samberg.

Ellen Pompeo has inked a new contract with ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy to continue on as Meredith Grey for the show’s upcoming 13th season. Co-star Sara Ramirez announced last month that she would not be returning as Callie.

The Paley Center for Media, Starz and Sony Pictures Television are hosting a special preview event to unveil the “The Artistry of Outlander” exhibit on Monday, June 6. The private event includes an exhibit preview, red carpet arrivals line, cocktail reception and unveiling, and moderated panel discussion with the cast and creatives of Outlander. The free exhibit opens to the public Wednesday, June 8.

Brett Eldredge and Thomas Rhett have been named hosts of CMA Music Festival: Country’s Night to Rock, airing Wednesday, August 3 on ABC.

ABC’s Good Morning America co-host, author and producer Lara Spencer has inked a   partnership with ITV America’s Leftfield Entertainment. Spencer will create and produce projects via her company Duffkat Media, under the LFE banner.

Another Kardashian is getting a series. E! has greenlit Rob & Chyna (wt), a six-episode docu-series following the whirlwind romance of Rob Kardashian and Blac Chyna, awaiting the birth of their first child. There will also be a special celebrating the birth of the newest K-tot following the series run.

NBC News’ Peacock Productions has signed a deal with Denise Brown, sister of the late   Nicole Brown Simpson, to develop a true crime series. Brown and a team of experts will investigate all sides of the story in cases where justice has been called into question.

Let them eat – and make – more cake! TLC and Discovery Networks International have ordered a ninth season of Cake Boss. The docu-reality series airs on TLC in the U.S. and on DNI’s factual entertainment channels across over 220 countries.

Showtime has picked up limited series Purity, based on the novel of the same name from best-selling author Jonathan Franzen. The project stars and is being executive produced by Daniel Craig. Purity will feature 20 episodes that will air over the course of two years. Production begins in 2017.

In more Showtime news, the network has given a pilot order to White Famous, a half-hour comedy executive produced by Jamie Foxx and Tom Kapinos. A  co-production between Lionsgate Television and Showtime, the project centers on a talented young African-American comedian whose star is rising, struggling to maintain his credibility as he begins to cross over towards becoming “white famous.” Foxx will guest star in a recurring role.

Starz has ordered “Book Three” and “Book Four” of Outlander. Once again partnering with Sony Pictures Television, this is the first multi-book pickup for the series. “Outlander is like nothing seen before on television,” said CEO of Starz, Chris Albrecht. “From its depiction of a truly powerful female lead character, to the devastating decimation of the Highlander way of life, to what is a rarely seen genuine and timeless love story, it is a show that not only transports the viewer, but inspires the passion and admiration of its fans.”

NBA champion Rick Fox‘s Echo Fox is teaming with Propagate and INE Entertainment to develop and produce a non-scripted series about the growing eSports phenomenon. “My interest in eSports started several years ago as a bonding activity with my son. I would have never dreamed that it would have taken off the way it has,” said Fox. “The level of engagement between fans and athletes in the eSports community is far more than I experienced in the NBA, and I’m passionate to tell the story of our eSports community and introduce audiences to the sport.” (To learn how to leverage eSports, register for the Cynopsis eSports Conference on June 23 in NYC.)

DIY Network greenlit Big Beach Builds. The series from Leopard USA, part of the Argonon group, which follows contractor and   fifth-generation builder Marnie Oursler as she restores classic homes in the beachside community of Bethany Beach, Delaware, is set to premiere later this year.

COMING UP

Barbra Streisand is returning to the Tony Awards stage. For the first time since 1970, the   legendary star will present at The 70th Annual Tony Awards. The telecast is being   broadcast from the Beacon Theatre in New York City on Sunday, June 12 at 8p. As previously announced, Broadway’s biggest night will also feature appearances by Oprah Winfrey, Cate Blanchett, Steve Martin, Edie Brickell, Carole King, Audra McDonald and more.

Bounce TV celebrates Black Music Month with a special selection of films throughout June honoring iconic African American artists in music history, including Michael Jackson, Diana Ross and Prince. Among the highlights: The Wiz, starring Jackson and Ross, airs Monday, June 6 at 2p. And Graffiti Bridge, the sequel to Prince’s Purple Rain, airs on his birthday, Tuesday, June 7 at 10p.

NEW & RETURNING SERIES

Showtime drama Homeland is shifting from its regular slot in the fall to a winter premiere in January 2017. The series will return to the U.S. after two seasons shooting in South Africa and Berlin. Season six is set to begin production in New York in August.

A reimagined version of game show classic The $100,000 Pyramid bows on Sunday, June 26 at 10p on ABC. Among the celebrities to be paired with contestants on the word association game are Bellamy Young, Weird Al Yankovic, Rosie O’Donnell, Snoop Dogg and more.

SundanceTV drama The A Word premieres Wednesday, July 13 at 10p. The six-episode series is a portrait of a multigenerational family after their young son is diagnosed as being on the spectrum for autism.

Waterfront House Hunting returns for a second season on Saturday, July 9 at 10p on FYI. The series follows prospective homeowners as they search for their perfect waterfront dream house.

Showtime has announced fall premiere dates for three series. Masters of Sex makes its fourth season debut on Sunday, September 11 at 10p; the drama had debuted in July the past two years. The Affair bows Sunday, November 20 at 10p and Shameless returns on Sunday, October 2 at 9p.

Cousins John Colaneri and Anthony Carrino rescue homeowners in need of major kitchen overhauls in a new season of HGTV’s America’s Most Desperate Kitchens. The show returns on Wednesday, July 13, at 8p and 8:30p.

NBC has set Tuesday, August 23 as the premiere for new comedy Better Late Than Never and Monday, July 11 for the season debut of Running Wild with Bear Grylls. Both shows air at 10p.

E!’s Famously Single bows Tuesday, June 14 at 10p. Series helps Hollywood’s most notorious daters learn to find love. EJNYC, centering on celebrity heir EJ Johnson and company, premieres Sunday, June 19 at 11p. WAGS, which puts the spotlight on wives and girlfriends of sports stars, debuts Sunday, June 26 at 10p.

DIGITAL DOINGS

New GfK research reports that subscribers to streaming services Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hulu are paying at or close to the maximum monthly fees they feel the services warrant. The study, Comparing Streaming Services 2016, suggests that $10 to $11 is the most subscribers would be willing to pay per month, on average, for Netflix or Amazon Prime. Current subscription prices are $9.99 per month for standard Netflix service and $10.99 for Amazon Prime’s month-by-month subscription plan.

Hulu has acquired exclusive subscription streaming rights to all episodes of Race for the White House, the six-part CNN original series narrated by Kevin Spacey. All episodes of the miniseries were available beginning Wednesday.

Telemundo Station Group has announced the debut of upgraded, individual station apps for 15 of its local Telemundo-owned stations. The upgraded apps feature personalization and Spanish-language features for users. Specifically, the redesigned look for iOS and Android-operated smart phones and tablets offers Spanish-language users the ability to select personalized in-app features and receive automated weather push alerts in Spanish. This is the first time that a local television station group in the United States is offering its digital users interactive mobile features in Spanish.

GLOBAL GOINGS ON

Lionsgate UK is venturing into the TV market and partnering with Channel 4 to co-finance and co-produce Jo Brand sitcom Damned with What Larks Productions. Lionsgate will sell rights to the social services-themed comedy worldwide.

Studiocanal has sealed a deal for Harlan Coben’s The Five with Dutch Public TV NPO. The drama thriller, an original commission for the UK’s Sky1, bows on NP02 on June 12, during the network’s annual “Detective Month.”

Chilean broadcaster Canal 13 will use Yospace’s Dynamic Ad Insertion platform in its live simulcast coverage of Copa America Centenario. Yospace enables full one-to-one personalization of replacement ads.

New production company Wild Blue Media launched on Wednesday. Headed up by former BBC and Studio Lambert alum Gary Hunter and with investment from FremantleMedia, Wild Blue will focus on creating new returnable brands with broad international appeal across factual, factual entertainment and live events. “After a wonderful 12 years at the BBC and a stint with the hugely talented team at Studio Lambert, I am delighted to be working under my own banner,” said Hunter.

RATINGS

Fox Business Network‘s Lou Dobbs Tonight was the highest-rated business program in all of business television for the month of May, reports FBN, with 224,000 total viewers. Averaging 133,000 total viewers in Business Day, FBN saw a 151 percent increase in total viewers and an 89 percent gain in the A25-54 this May year-to-year.

HGTV scored its highest-rated and most-watched May ever among P25-54, W25-54 and P18-49 in primetime. It averaged a 0.54 rating for P25-54 in primetime, representing an increase of 6 percent over the prior year. HGTV ranked as the second highest cable network among W25-54 and was a top-5 cable network among upscale P25-54 and W25-54 in primetime.

Travel Channel enjoyed its seventh straight month of year-over-year growth among W25-54 in primetime, as well as a 5 percent increase in primetime ratings for P25-54. Among W25-54, the network posted a 10 percent increase over last year. Ratings drivers included Bizarre Foods, Mysteries at the Museum and Hotel Impossible.

Cooking Channel’s May 2016 was the highest-rated and most-watched May ever. Primetime ratings and impressions among P25-54 were up 17 percent and 16 percent, respectively. Titles such as Cake Hunters and Unwrapped 2.0 led the ratings success.

May 2016 ranked as the highest-rated May in DIY Network’s history, reflecting a 6 percent primetime ratings growth among P25-54 over last year, plus a 20 percent gain among W25-54. Ratings drivers included Barnwood Builders, Texas Flip & Move and Vanilla Ice Project.

Great American Country garnered its highest-rated May since 2007 among P25-54 and the highest-rated May ever among W25-54, making GAC the second fastest-growing cable network last month. Led by Going RV, Flea Market Flip and Log Cabin Living, the network posted a 96 percent ratings gain among P25-54 and a 94 percent lift among W25-54.

Food Network’s summer tentpole Food Network Star, launched May 22, has seen a 46 percent P25-54 rating increase over the same time last year. Combined with spin-off series Comeback Kitchen, which was up 26 percent over last year, more than 17 million P2+ viewers to date eyeballed the culinary hopefuls.

Family Feud (7.4 live plus same day national Nielsen rating, up 6 percent from the week before) easily defeated Wheel of Fortune (6.4, up 2 percent) to win the game show race for the fourth straight week in the session ending May 22.  Feud also climbed 23 percent from last year and just edged ahead of usual overall syndication leader Judge Judy (7.3, up 1 percent) for the second time this season. Still, Judge Judy rose for the fourth frame in a row to a 12-week high and improved 11 percent from last year at this time.

The only talk shows in the top dozen, outperforming the previous week, were Steve Wilkos (1.4, up 8 percent) and The Doctors (1.0, up 11 percent).

Chris McCarthy has been upped to President of VH1 and Logo TV. McCarthy previously served as General Manager, a position he held at VH1 since August 2015 and at Logo TV since 2014.

Val Boreland has been appointed Executive Vice President, Content Strategy at NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment. Boreland, a former exec at Revolt and Comedy Central, will oversee content scheduling and acquisitions for USA, Syfy, Chiller and Cloo.

Remedy Productions, part of the Argonon group, has named Matt Tiffin as Head of Entertainment, effective July. He was formerly Head of Entertainment at Tellycopter (NBC Universal).

Entertainment Studios, Inc. has appointed John Hess as Vice President of Midwest Sales. Hess comes to the company after a decade as Vice President/Sales Manager at Carsey-Werner Domestic Television Distribution.

Alex Jones and Belinda Campbell have been appointed joint Managing Directors of Red Planet Pictures. Jones was previously Head of Business and Production at Red Planet, while Campbell was Head of Drama.
