The finale of CBS’s Late Show with David Letterman delivered 13.76 million viewers Wednesday night, the show’s fourth largest audience ever, after its 1993 premiere and two post-Olympic shows in 1994. A 3.1 rating among A18-49 was Late Show’s best since Letterman’s kumbaya with Oprah Winfrey in 2005. The broadcast clobbered every primetime show as well as its late night competition. Even delayed by Dave’s extended exit, The Late Late Show with James Corden drew 4.01 viewers, the most ever for the franchise with any host.

American Heroes Channel is again partnering with the GI Film Festival, taking place this weekend in the D.C. metro area. Today, AHC Director of Development Brent Hatherill and Discovery Channel VP of Production & Development, Mike Sorenson lead a Q&A session to help veteran filmmakers looking for input on how to pitch film and television. On Saturday, GIFF presents its “Best of Show” awards ceremony, featuring America: Facts Vs. Fiction host Jamie Kaler as emcee.

MTV2 is rolling out #NONSTOPSUMMER, supporting its summer slate and featuring network talent Nick Cannon, Charlamagne tha God, Tyga, DeRay Davis and the casts of Guy Code, Nick Cannon Presents: Wild ‘N Out and MTV2’s Joking Off. Joining the lineup: new series Not Exactly News, launching Wednesday, June 17 at 11:30p and Uncommon Sense with Charlamagne and Kingin’ with Tyga, bowing Friday, July 10 at 11p and 11:30p. “In the middle of eight consecutive quarters of growth and our highest ratings in history, we are aiming even higher,” said Chris McCarthy, GM of MTV2, Logo TV and mtvU. “This summer MTV2 will be non-stop as we celebrate our 20th anniversary year with our most ambitious slate ever.”

HGTV renewed Island Life and Island Hunters, while sister net DIY ordered more episodes of Texas Flip and Move, Garage Gold and Building Alaska. The shows “are among the consistent performers on our networks,” said GM Allison Page, “so we want to keep our programming pipeline filled with new episodes.”

The eighth annual Television Academy Honors celebrates six programs that “used the power of television to shift cultural acceptance and influence the hearts and minds of viewers.” ABC’s black-ish, ESPN’s E:60 Dream On:Stories of Boston’s Strongest, HBO’s The Normal Heart and Paycheck to Paycheck: The Life & Times of Katrina Gilbert, Amazon’s Transparent and Netflix’s Virunga will be honored Wednesday, May 27  at the Montage Beverly Hills, with Dana Delany returning as host.

PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Fuse Media struck a multi-year partnership with comedian Gabriel Iglesias (aka Fluffy) for new original comedy series. First to get the green light: half-hour Fluffy Breaks Even! (wt), which began production on Thursday for an October launch. “Gabriel is the perfect example of the type of talent that is part of Fuse’s new goal of representing New Young America – the young millennial tastemakers and trendsetters who are revolutionizing today’s culture and whose influence is evident on and offline,” said Fuse President Bill Hilary.

Epix gave straight-to-series orders for its first original scripted series, comedy Graves, created by Joshua Michael Stern (Swing Vote) and starring Nick Nolte as a former U.S. President, and Paramount Television espionage drama Berlin Station.

Last Hope with Troy Dunn (wt), featuring the motivational speaker/missing person expert tracking down lost loved ones and facilitating reunions, got the green light from UP for 10 episodes. DunnDeal Studios will produce for a fall 2015 debut. The net also acquired Dunn’s The Locator, produced by Asylum Entertainment, set to premiere Monday, June 1 at 9p. Dunn’s pleased with the partnership. “UP is the network I would create if given the opportunity to do so,” he tells Cynopsis. “UP shares my values, my love of family and my view of what television should be.”

TLC has started production on season two of Our Little Family, slated for a September premiere. Docu-series produced by Discovery Studios averaged 1.7 million P2+ viewers its first go-round.

UK’s Ealing Studios is acquiring a stake in production company GreenAcre Films as part of the expansion of its television division. The first of what Ealing says will be many deals will allow for development of an “ambitious and innovative” TV slate.

COMING UP

Born on the Fourth of July will run as part of USA’s “Characters Unite” film series, designed to promote tolerance and acceptance. The 1989 movie airs Saturday, May 23 at 7p, with a new introduction from its star, Tom Cruise.

HLN is premiering Vacation Chasers, about travel experts competing to plan dream vacations, on Friday, June 5 at 9p. A smartphone app allowing users to curate a vacation itinerary will be introduced ahead of the launch.

Today AHC is announcing the launch of a new Sunday morning programming block, “Salute to Sacrifice,” celebrating veterans and members of the armed forces. A multi-platform collaboration with top military-focused organizations, programming begins Memorial Day weekend and will air Sundays from 9a-12p. Content for May 24 includes three episodes of Against the Odds.

The good, the bad and the outrageous on social media are explored in half-hour special Worst.Post.Ever: With Frankie Grande. YouTube star and Big Brother fan fave Grande breaks down buzzy posts, tweets and selfies Tuesday, August 18 at 10p on Oxygen.

What’s the right programming for a female-focused net? LMN is going with scripted drama Strange Empire: Rise of the Women, about three women looking for a new way of life in the North American frontier, circa 1860. Thirteen one-hour eps launch Friday, May 29 at 9p.

E! announced its summer lineup, kicking off Memorial Day Weekend with the return of #RichKids of Beverly Hills on Sunday at 10p, following a new episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians at 9p. A new season of Total Divas debuts Tuesday, July 7at9p, followed by new series Hollywood Cycle at 10p. Sex With Brody, featuring Brody Jenner, premieres Friday, July 10 at 10:30p, while Brody’s dad Bruce Jenner’s new documentary series, following his life as a transgender woman, bows Sunday, July 26 at 9p, along with new reality series Stewarts & Hamiltons at 10p.

CASTING

Steven Williams (The X-Files) will recur on season two of HBO drama The Leftovers as an outcast and confidant to Justin Theroux’s character.

Mimi Rogers (Bosch) has joined the cast of upcoming Starz drama Ash vs. Evil Dead, sequel to the Evil Dead movie franchise, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The series is shooting in New Zealand, headed for a fall bow.

Hispanic extreme sports, music and lifestyle channel PX TV launched on the AT&T U-verse app. The announcement comes on the heels of the carriage launch on AT&T U-Verse in the U.S.

ESPN Deportes is now available on Sling TV as part of the “Deportes Extra” add-on package. For an additional $5 per month, customers who choose to supplement the “Best of Live TV” core package with “Deportes Extra” will be able to receive live access to ESPN Deportes.

ABC claims the A18-49 May sweeps crown with 1.7/6, its first back-to-back May sweeps victories in over 23 years, winning all four weeks in the demo.

The season six finale of ABC’s Modern Family delivered a 2.3/8 rating among A18-49, a four tenths dip versus the week prior and series low. Not helping: Family’s lead-in, game show 500 Questions, debuted to 1.2/5.

CBS This Morning: Saturday is up 20 percent among A25-54 (.6/4) and 13 percent in viewers (2.09 million) versus last May, according to Nielsen. It’s the show’s best May sweep delivery for a CBS Saturday morning news program since 2006 in the demo, and best to date in viewers.

The BBC announced it has a weekly global audience of 308 million people, representing the combined measured reach of international BBC content, both news and entertainment, for the year 2014/15. For the first time, television (148 million) overtook radio (133 million) as the most popular platform for BBC international news.

CBS was first at 8p with 2.2/8 for the two-hour season finale of Survivor, followed by 1.3/5 for Fox’s Masterchef. Survivor kept the lead at 9p with a 2.4/8, versus a 2.0 average for Modern Family and black-ish. CBS’s Survivor reunion topped 10p with 1.8/6; NBC’s Chicago PD took second with 1.4/5.
