Stepping in for MSNBC anchor Chris Jansing, who’s decamping for NBC News, will be Telemundo‘s Jose Diaz-Balart, anchoring at 10a live from Miami. Diaz-Balart will continue his anchor and hosting duties on Telemundo; both nets fall under the NBCUniversal umbrella.

IN THE NEWS

Fox Business Network is launching Making Money with Charles Payne on Monday, June 2 at 6p. "There are money making opportunities behind every headline and each day I am going to debate and analyze these potential investments," said Payne. The new show expands on current Payne’s "Making Money" segments that air during business day programming.

Add Scripps Networks Interactive‘s Travel Channel and online video site ulive as development partners for the New York Television Festival‘s tenth annual event this fall. The first-time partners are teaming up to offer a digital series to a participating independent artist. Already onboard: A&E, Comedy Central, FYI,  History, ID, National Geographic Channels, SundanceTV, truTV and WE tv.

Logo TV announced Trailblazers, a new annual event and telecast honoring the pioneers for LGBT civil rights. The one-hour special will feature celebrities including Daniel Radcliffe, Jared Leto and Kylie Minogue, as well as politicians, activists and musical performances.

Kristen Bell (House of Lies) broke the news via Twitter that she’ll return to host the CMT Music Awards on Wednesday, June 4 at 8p. It will be Bell’s third appearance, but first time as solo host.

History‘s American Restoration is on the move. Starting June 2 at 10p, the docuseries from Leftfield Productions airs Mondays, with new eps for six consecutive weeks.

More viewers are watching primetime TV on Sunday than on any other night, according to Nielsen research. For the 2013-2014 season, 125 million viewers were tuned in Sundays, followed by 120 million on Mondays. Friday was the least-watched night, with 107 million people watching.

Ensequence announced the launch of PROMOTIONS+, a national advertising product that lets consumers request a reminder text for an upcoming television program through an interactive prompt displayed on a show’s promotional spot. The product has launched with cable network partner WE tv on select Samsung Smart TVs. 

The Paley Center for Media appointed Maureen J. Reidy president and CEO. Reidy, who had been chief marketing officer and COO, replaces Pat Mitchell, stepping into the role of executive vice chairman.

Burning Love creators Jonathan Stern and Keith Quinn struck a digital comedy deal with Fox Broadcasting Co. "Jon and Keith have a proven track record of making outrageous digital comedy series that have graduated to successful on-air shows," said Kiliaen Van Rensselaer, SVP of multiplatform programming for Fox. "Their sensibility, expertise and ingenuity are perfectly suited to FOX, as we continue pioneering in this realm."

 
 

COMING UP

History‘s The Hunt follows a group of hunters in the Alaskan wilderness on the trail of Kodiak brown bears (all 1500 pounds of them). The Twofour America production, premiering Sunday, June 8 at 10p, is narrated by Metallica’s James Hetfield.

The headline-making efforts of the Egyptian soccer team to reach the 2014 World Cup is chronicled in PBS documentary American Pharaoh, debuting Monday, June 16 at 10p.

Nat Geo‘s The 90′s: The Last Great Decade? launches on Nat Geo Sunday, July 6 at 9p. The six-hour series includes interviews with memorable faces from the decade including Matthew Perry, Courtney Love and Roseanne Barr.

The sexual exploitation of children is addressed in BET News‘s, Stolen Innocence: Your Daughters Are Our Daughters. The BET Networks, in association with Arise TV, special premieres Friday, May 23 at 7p on BET and Saturday, May 24 at 10p on Centric.

Travel Channel‘s Man Finds Food, sniffing out "secret dining-world hidden restaurants and off-the-menu dishes only available to those in the know," premieres with back-to-back eps Wednesday, July 2 at 9p and 9:30p.

Memorial Day, May 26, History premieres six-hour event series World Wars, airing on three consecutive nights at 9p. Complementing the programming about three decades of war are a series of features, videos and infographics on history.com, available now through Friday, June 6.

Sportsman Channel‘s also marking Memorial Day, with a "Salute to Service" marathon, hosted by Gary Sinese, that features a variety of programs that all connect to "those who serve and sacrifice." Included are "Soldier Salutes," courtesy of the Department of Defense, allowing active military to connect with families back home.

Teen Choice 2014 airs live on Sunday, August 10 at 8p on Fox, for a sixteenth year celebrating teen icons in film, TV, music, sports, fashion and the web.

LMN original movie My Daughter Must Live premieres Sunday, June 15 at 8p. The Reel One Entertainment thriller stars Joelle Carter (Justified) as a woman tracking down a long-ago one night stand who could save her daughter’s life.

SUMMER STUNTS

Sony Movie Channel is offering a Father’s Day Western marathon on Sunday, June 15. Starting at 8a, movies including Silverado, They Came to Cordura, The Violent Men and The Man From Colorado will keep Dad on the couch.

Cozi TV is kicking off the unofficial start of the season with "Boys of Summer," featuring a Maverick marathon from 8a-5p, and the net debuts of Starsky & Hutch and Knight Rider Monday, May 26 starting at 8p. After Memorial Day, S&H will air Tuesdays at 8p and 9p; Knight Rider gets Tuesday’s 10p and 11p slots.

getTV goes blonde for summer with themed blocks celebrating Golden Age of movies bombshells during the month of June. First up: Marilyn Monroe in Ladies of the Chorus, Sunday, June 1 at 7:15a.

SYNDICATION

V. Stiviano sits down with Dr. Phil today to offer her side of the Donald Sterling scandal. Stiviano already underwent a grilling from Barbara Walters, but this time, we’re told, she’ll remove her visor and "answer the questions the media is left with."

CASTING

Scott Adsit (30 Rock) joins season three of Adult Swim‘s The Heart She Holler. "We are thrilled to be hyped that we are amped about how much we are pumped that the unreasonably funny and talented Scott Adsit will be replacing the irreplaceable Joe Sikora," said writers and directors John Lee and Vernon Chatman.

Courtney Vance (FlashForward) and Rene Auberjonois (Benson) have been added to the season two cast of Showtime‘s Masters of Sex.

Lauren Ambrose (Six Feet Under) joins USA event series Dig, from Universal Cable Productions, premiering in fall 2014.

 

DISTRIBUTION & CARRIAGE

Content distributor Cinedigm announced the launch of free, ad-supported on-demand streaming channel Docudrama. By mid-summer, Docurama is slated to have 1,000-plus titles available on over 165 million consumer devices including connected TVs (Samsung, Sony, RCA, Humax), set top boxes (Amazon Fire, Roku, Tivo Roamio, Western Digital TV), tablets (Samsung) and gaming consoles (Xbox).

Red Arrow Intl. sold Mata Mata, about the high-stakes world of pro soccer, to Netflix, for streaming in Latin America. The 20th FIFI World Cup tournament starts on June 12 in Brazil.

Atresmedia Television acquired exclusive free-to-air rights from CBS Studios International to mystery series Extant, premiering on CBS in the U.S. on Wednesday, July 9.

RATINGS

ABC won the final complete week of the 2013-14 season (w/o May 12) by 20 percent in A18-49 over second place CBS (1.8/6 vs. 1.5/5. It’s the first time the net has won a May Sweep 14 years.

But it was NBC who claimed first in the demo for the entire 2013-2014 season – for the first time in ten years. Boosted by the Winter Olympics, Sunday Night Football, and The Voice and The Blacklist, NBC was up 13.7 percent.

Take out sports, and it wins the season’s A18-49 crown, counters CBS. But no matter how you slice it, CBS will win the 2013-2014 season in viewers for the sixth consecutive year and 11th out of the last 12 seasons, according to Nielsen. With three nights remaining, CBS led second-place NBC by 1.45 million viewers (10.73 million versus 9.28 million).

NBC‘s The Maya Rudolph Show, a variety show starring the Saturday Night Live alum, premiered Monday to a time slot-winning 2.1 rating among A18-49.

Shrinking PUT levels, the NFL Draft and basketball and hockey playoffs kept syndication ratings in check, but Maury managed to jump 17 percent among W25-54 (1.4), to place fourth among talk shows, and tie mighty Dr. Phil for first among W18-49 (1.3).

For the week of May 12, the final complete week of Sweeps, ABC World News was the top nightly newscast among A25-54,according to Nielsen, winning the week in the news demo for the fourth time in the past six weeks.

The third season of WE tv‘s Mary Mary delivered more than 1.1 million total viewers, up 46 percent over the previous season, up 38 percent among A25-54 (676,000) and up 44 percent among A18-49 (672,000). The docu-drama helped make WE tv a top five cable net on Thursday nights among W18-49 and 25-54.
