Comedy Central will have big shoes to fill when The Colbert Report‘s Stephen Colbert jumps ship for CBS‘s Late Show next year, and they’ve tapped Larry Wilmore to try them on for size. The Daily Show‘s "Senior Black Correspondent" will launch Jon Stewart-created The Minority Report with Larry Wilmore at 11:30p, starting in January. "I’m beyond excited to have this chance to continue my relationships with Comedy Central and the brilliant Jon Stewart," said Wilmore, who will relocate from LA to Gotham for the gig. "I love the city of New York and promise to only wear my Laker t-shirts when I’m layering."

BRANDS & ADVERTISING

Publicis Groupe and Omnicom Group just called the whole thing off. Nine months after announcing a $35 billion merger of the second- and third-largest agency holding companies, "The parties have released each other from all obligations with respect to the proposed transaction, and no termination fees will be payable by either party," said a statement Thursday night. In a call with reporters Friday, Omnicom CEO John Wren said of the breakup, "If I had to summarize in a tweet it would be, corporate culture, complexity and time. And I would still have 100 characters left."

UPFRONTS UPDATE

NUVOtv offered a sneak peek at the announcements it will be making tonight at NYC’s Edison Ballroom, including six music and entertainment series and specials, three unscripted dramas, two comedies and live sports specials. On hand will be Jennifer Lopez, who joined the net as Chief Creative Officer last year. "We have more than doubled down on our original programming efforts since last year’s Upfront," said Michael Schwimmer, NUVOtv CEO in the release. "Our commitment to the future of NUVOtv is complemented by the purchase of Fuse and we’re excited about what’s ahead for both networks."

Among the offerings are new documentary series Los Jets and reality competition Sensation (wt) from Lopez’s Nuyorican Productions, and Tequila King, featuring a Mexican entrepreneur launching the Casa Mexica brand in the U.S. One-hour special Supersong, coming June 8, follows Ricky Martin as he writes and records the World Cup Anthem, and original comedy specials will feature the likes of Rick Gutierrez, Pablo Francisco, Pete Correale, Jim Breuer, Alonzo Bodden, Sebastian Maniscalco and Jamie Kennedy. Knockout Live Boxing specials launch June 7.

"Based on the very positive response we have been receiving in early meetings with agencies and advertisers," said SVP ad sales Craig Geller, "we expect a very robust market from new and existing advertisers."

In advance of its NYC event on May 14, featuring a performance by hip hop duo Outkast, Adult Swim announced a 2014-2015 programming slate that included over 30 new and returning series, pilots and specials. "Adult Swim has effectively expanded from a late-night programming block to a network that resonates with all key adult demos," said Donna Speciale, president of Turner ad sales, with content "that will be very attractive to our advertising partners looking to reach and engage with the brands’ key adult demos in primetime." And the late-night sked "continues to resonate with the younger male and adult demo," said Speciale, "providing opportunities for our advertising partners to connect with this hard to reach audience."

Original series include a comedy created by Robert Smigel (SNL, Conan) starring Jack McBrayer (30 Rock) and Triumph the Insult Dog, and pilots Dream Corp LLC, about a questionable experimental treatment facility; Neon Joe, Werewolf Hunter, the tale of a neon-clad man with a special skill set, and a comedy inspired by WorldStarHipHop.com, covering hip hop culture.

Premiering this summer and fall are Mike Tyson Mysteries, showing the heavyweight champ as crime fighter; Black Jesus, with the Son of God spreading love in present-day Compton, CA; Mr. Pickles, about a deviant border collie; anthology series Tim & Eric’s Bedtime Stories and The Venture Bros. Special, an hour-long adventure "that will change the Ventureverse as we know it forever."

Four days before its May 13 Stage 37 bash in Gotham, where Univision planned to offer advertisers "the transmedia solutions to engage deeply with Hispanic consumers and built the lasting relationships that will move the needle for the brands," said CEO Randy Falco, the net announced new entertainment, sports and news programming across platforms.

Upcoming programming includes four telenovelas brimming with star-crossed lovers and disapproving families; the ninth season of beauty pageant/reality show Nuestras Belleza Latina 9 (Our Latin Beauty); documentaries This Is Not a Ball, exploring the meaning of the soccer ball; Who Is Dayani Cristal?, focused on the U.S. war on immigration; Marmato, about a historic mining town and Narco Tek, centered on the drug trafficking business.

Unimas, a network developed for Millennials, introduced five weekday dramas: Senorita Polvora (Miss Gunpowder), La Fiesta del Chovo (The Feast of the Goat), En la Boca del Lobo (At the Devil’s Table) and De-Mente Criminal (Demented Criminal).

Galavision Network promised culturally relevant content, like drama series Los Heroes del Norte 3 (Heroes of the North) and Mistico e Inexplicable 3 (Mystical and Unexplainable). Sports net Univision Deportes announced Copa America Centario, a special edition of the tournament that will be played in the U.S. for the first time, and biannual soccer event Copa Oro 2015.

At its Upfronts meetings, WGN America touted Manhattan, the net’s second original series, set against the backdrop of the mission to build the world’s first atomic bomb. Starring John Benjamin Hickey (The Big C) and Olivia Williams (Dollhouse), the drama premieres in July. Witch trial drama Salem, launched April 20, has been renewed for season two.
