UPFRONTS UPDATE

Bounce TV, launched in 2011, unveiled its programming plans, including two new original series, and announced big viewership gains.

The family-friendly net targeting African-Americans introduced Mann & Wife, "a black Brady Bunch," premiering in winter 2015. Comedy Sisters, focusing on a once-famous R&B group living under the same roof, arrives in summer, 2015. Back for season two is Family Time, about working class clan lottery winners; stand-up comedy series Off the Chain returns for a third season in fall 2014.

As for those viewership numbers: Bounce boasted of a 43 percent increase in Household ratings versus year ago, 25 percent in P18-49 and 28 percent P25-54 in Prime delivery. In Total Day, the net was up 48 percent in Households, 48 percent in P18-49 and 62 percent in P25-54. New original series One Love reached nearly 1.1 million viewers across its series premiere week, making it the net’s most-watched original ever.

"Our message to Madison Avenue this year is ‘Diversify to Amplify’ and Bounce TV’s record-setting ratings growth combines with our exclusive and unduplicated reach to make the network a must-buy for brands seeking to reach the African American consumer," said EVP of ad sales Elverage Allen.

Cinemoi North America hosted its first-ever Upfront at NYC’s Michael’s on Wednesday, April 23. Recently relaunched on Verizon FiOS, the 24-hour net "is aimed at discerning viewers… transporting them to the most glamorous world events and exotic destinations."

Sandwiched between domestic and international films, Cinemoi will air exclusive coverage of the Cannes Film Festival; sneak peeks at fashion weeks in CINECouture; film festivals in CINEFestivals; environmental stories in CINEGreen and original productions including talker The Jonathan Ross Show, foreign policy program Ambassador’s Roundtable and interview show Unfinished Business with Isiah Thomas. On July 27, the net hosts the first International Film Fashion Awards, in Beverly Hills.

BRANDS & ADVERTISING

Turner Broadcasting is getting behind upcoming Tom Cruise film Edge of Tomorrow in a big way, with a promotional campaign for the Warner Bros. Pictures thriller spanning its nets and social media. Adult Swim, TBS, TNT, and truTV will ask fans to "Live.Die.Retweet." through network-branded, on-air spots, driving awareness for exclusive, daily content from the movie and a "Red Carpet Premiere" sweepstakes. The global premiere of the movie’s IMAX long-form trailer will air on Turner channels Monday, May 12, including CNN and Turner Sports programs. "Our partnership showcases the unparalleled promotional capabilities of both companies and the potential for big ideas when we come together," said Donna Speciale, president of Turner Broadcasting Ad Sales.

News is a healthy home for advertisements, according to a new study unveiled by NBCUniversal. The report, based on a Latitude survey of 1600 people, makes the claim that consumers watching news content are 52 percent more likely to make a decision than when watching other programming, 25 percent more likely to add an item to a shopping list and 30 percent more likely to buy a product. "That the news environment fosters decision making is really important because good advertising is all about getting the consumer to make decisions," said Brad Adgate, SVP, research for Horizon Media. "The study illustrates just how well the news environment achieves that end."

National CineMedia announced a merger agreement with Screenvision, for $375 million. The move positions the combined new company "to be much more competitive in the expanding video and overall advertising marketplace, including the new online and mobile advertising platforms," said CineMedia Chairman and CEO Kurt Hall.
