AT THE UPFRONTS

Whether onstage or at presentations behind closed doors, networks are busy touting new programming, advanced ad products and branded content opportunities. What new ad categories are they looking to break this year? Cynopsis took a tally.

Ed Georger, EVP, ad sales Hallmark Channel: “In 2015 we made great progress in the automotive, theatrical and telco categories and our plan is to expand in that space going forward. We also plan to continue delivering the audience that incumbent categories  including retail, packaged goods, and pharmaceutical  value.”

Amy Hyland, EVP ad sales, Viacom Kids & Family: “We’ve already seen success with categories like auto, beauty, restaurants, retail and fashion. Our returning slate of shows are hits.As a result there is great potential for new categories to align with this roster of talent and unique brand equity. In addition, Nickelodeon and Nick at Nite’s growth trajectory has put them in a great position to build on our core endemic categories, as well as continue to grow with newer categories like retail, travel and especially technology.”

Jason Miller, EVP, ad sales & integrated marketing at Fuse Media: “We continue to do well in key young adult categories such as QSR, Confectionaries, Soft Drinks and Snacks. But we continue to expand our partnerships in categories such as Automotive, Movies and Retail.”

As the outdoor space has increased in popularity, our audience has expanded as well. We have seen and continue to see more advertisers specifically targeting the outdoor enthusiast from categories that have not traditionally been active in this space. We’re writing business with virtually every category targeting men or adults. What we’re aiming to do now is to expand our ad rosters within each of those categories.”

Bill Rosalie, SVP ad sales, Reelz: “With the dramatic growth of our audience and strategic growth in our demo, theatrical is a natural for us. With our Real lives. Real stories. Real celebrities. programming we continue to see growth in auto as well as health, beauty and fashion.”

Debra Lee, Chairman and CEO, BET Networks: “We’re always looking for new areas to grow. Packaged goods and automotive have always been good areas for us, QSRs and soft drinks. But we’re trying to get more in the tech area and financial services.”
