What cord-cutters? Comcast reported an increase of 53,000 video customers, its best new subscriber total for a first quarter in nine years. 1Q16 profits were up 3.6 percent. The news was reported during the company’s earnings call Wednesday. “We’ve spent a lot of time on the customer experience and I think that’s helping churn,” said Neil Smit, CEO of the cable division. “We’re doing the right things in customer experience, and we’re doing right things on the products side.” As for a Wall Street Journal report saying Comcast is in talks to buy DreamWorks Animation for over $3 billion – no comment.
Cultural insights agency TruthCo. released a new study, “Omniculturalism: 10 New Ways to Look at Diversity,” that analyzes the cultural landscape to find out what brands need to know to maximize cultural success. What’s the takeaway for programmers? “Diversity has been a top-of-mind issue in the entertainment industry, but often the way we discuss this topic is out of touch with the ways Millennials view difference and identity,” Rajiv Menon, cultural analyst at TruthCo., tells Cynopsis. “Rather than speaking in the language of ‘minorities’ and other demographic categories that no longer resonate in culture, it’s important for content creators to explore what happens when difference of identity is treated like an everyday fact of life.”
As if Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan haven’t offered enough daytime drama lately, Access Hollywood Live host Billy Bush is jumping to Today, according to the Hollywood Reporter. NBC is saving the reveal for its May 16 Upfront presentation, according to THR.

MEASUREMENT
CNN is onboard with comScore syndicated measurement service Xmedia, designed to measure a total unduplicated view of audience across its TV and digital in a single metric. A study of CNN’s cross-media audience is “a great example of how a media brand with a strong footprint on TV, desktop and mobile can demonstrate its full value proposition to advertisers, while at the same time getting a better understanding of how its own viewers engage across different media touchpoints,” said Gian Fulgoni, co-founder and chairman emeritus, comScore. Among the study’s findings: CNN’s presence on TV, desktop and mobile reaches an unduplicated audience of 174 million, more than half the U.S. population, and the network reaches 40 percent of Millennials from its digital platforms, rising to 60 percent when combined with TV.
DISTRIBUTION
America’s Greatest Makers debuts this month on The Children’s Television Network, reaching children’s hospitals. Short-form reality series, a collaboration between Intel, TBS and exec producer Mark Burnett, airs Tuesdays at 9:30p on TBS (look for guest judge Shaquille O’Neal on May 10 and May 17).
