IN THE NEWS

President Obama will be interviewed by Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday April 10. It will be the Commander in Chief’s first Fox News Channel chat since 2014.

Ads in TV-G programs generate more attention and purchase intent than commercials in shows with TV-14 and TV-MA ratings, according to a new study commissioned by Scripps Networks Interactive and UP TV. The Family Entertainment Brand Impact Study, conducted by Nielsen, found that ads in family-friendly programming scored 27 percent higher among all viewers, with the lift rising to 51 percent among viewers who said they regularly seek TV-G content. “We’ve always known there’s a powerful connection between our shows and ads, this study helps to explain exactly why,” said Chris Ryan, SVP of ad sales research for Scripps.

FYI will stop serving Kocktails With Khloe after its final season one episode Wednesday, April 20. Viewership for the talker has dropped to 197,000 total viewers and .1 among A18-49 in Live+7. The show will go out with a bang, featuring power couples Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, and John Legend and Chrissy Teigen.

Investigation Discovery is holding a convention for crime TV fanatics. Held on Saturday, June 11 in NYC, IDCON will be headlined by network talent including Paula Zahn, Joe Kenda, Chris Hansen, Candice DeLong and Tony Harris. “ID recently closed out its best quarter ever in prime among all key demos – and this incredible success is due to the passion of the best superfans out there, our ID Addicts,” Henry Schleiff, Group President, ID, AHC and DA, tells Cynopsis. “We wanted to find a way to both show our appreciation for ID Addicts and to feed their insatiable appetite for all things ID. From there, IDCon was born: a completely free day full of beloved personalities, sneak peeks of upcoming and favorite shows, one-of-a-kind experiential activities and of course a surprise or two – an event true crime fans would simply ‘kill’ to attend.”

Sonia Manzano, who retired as Sesame Street’s Maria last summer after 45 years on the kids’ classic, will receive the Emmy for Lifetime Achievement at the 43rd Annual Daytime Emmys ceremony May 1 in LA.

Melissa McCarthy will be honored with the “Comedic Genius” award at Sunday’s 2016 MTV Movie Awards. Previous winners were Will Ferrell in 2013 and Kevin Hart – this year’s host, with Dwayne Johnson – in 2015.

TBS ordered season two of The Detour ahead of the show’s official launch on Monday, April 11 at 9p. Created, written and exec produced by Jason Jones and Samantha Bee, the series had sneak preview telecasts following the NCAA tournament, and is available to stream. “I’m very excited to be going back to making my favorite show not yet on TV and look forward to making outrageous demands in my rider for the second season,” said Daily Show alum Jones.

Byron Allen issued a statement in response to Comcast’s opposition to the Entertainment Studios/National Association of African-American Owned Media petition to the FCC. Characterizing accusations that it had failed to fulfill its obligation to carry minority-owned channels as “unadulterated bunk,” Comcast noted of ASPiRE and Revolt, “That the networks have attracted investors who are not owned by African Americans does not change the fact that the networks are majority or substantially owned by African Americans.” In his response, Allen said, “Everybody talks about diversity, and everybody complains about the lack of diversity. These lawsuits were filed to provide distribution and real economic inclusion for 100% African American-owned media…. The cable industry spends $70 billion a year licensing cable networks and 100% African American-owned media receives ZERO.This is completely unacceptable.”

That’s why we want to be in the AwesomenessTV business.” Added Robbins, “Our goal is to be the media company of the future, where content and distribution go hand in hand – we are now one giant step closer to that future.”

Series aimed at “Generation M” (millennial, mobile, multicultural) debuts at the end of April. “Movimiento Musica builds on the insights of CultureFirst by tapping into the power of musical discovery as a key cultural connector for Hispanics and millennials,” said Mike Rosen, EVP of Advertising Sales, News and Hispanic Groups, NBCUniversal.
