Charter announced plans to acquire Bright House Networks, the sixth largest cable operator in the US, for $10.4 billion. Pending regulatory and shareholder approval, the deal has some conditions. Among them: the expiration of Time Warner Cable’s right of first offer for Bright House and the close of Charter’s previously announced transactions tied to the Comcast-TWC deal. “This acquisition enhances our scale, and solidifies New Charter as the second largest cable operator in the US. I look forward to working with the Bright House team, whom we have known for years, in delivering great products and services to grow our market share,” said Charter president and CEO Tom Rutledge.
IN THE NEWS
Comedy Central is standing by its man. Hours after the net announced its choice to succeed The Daily Show host Jon Stewart, tweets by South African comedian Trevor Noah were uncovered that included jokes about Jews and women (“Oh yeah the weekend. People are gonna get drunk & think that I’m sexy!” fat chicks everywhere) that some found offensive. “Like many comedians, Trevor Noah pushes boundaries; he is provocative and spares no one, himself included,” the network said in its statement. “To judge him or his comedy based on a handful of jokes is unfair.” Agreed Noah on Tuesday, via Twitter, “To reduce my views to a handful of jokes that didn’t land is not a true reflection of my character, nor my evolution as a comedian.”
Revolt Live is hosting a concert featuring performances by several artists featured on the Furious 7 soundtrack, including Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez and Tyrese Gibson. The event, being held at the Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood, will stream live on REVOLT.TV today at 4p. "We collaborated with Universal Pictures to create the ultimate celebration for Furious 7,” Mike Roche, SVP sales and partnerships, tells Cynopsis. Movie opens this weekend.
Gary Sinise will narrate the first season of INSP‘s Brush of Honor. The series follows host and artist Phil Taylor as he visits the hometowns of service members, then presents a portrait of the fallen hero to his or her family. “We are excited to have Gary narrating these episodes,” said Doug Butts, INSP’s SVP of Programming. “He and the Gary Sinise Foundation have supported our nation’s military and their families for years.” Series debuts Thursday, May 21 at 9p.
CBS scored the most Daytime Emmy nods, with 62, versus 50 for PBS and syndicated, 35 for ABC and 20 for NBC. Alison Sweeney, known to prime time viewers as host of NBC‘s The Biggest Loser, received her first-ever Daytime Emmy nomination, for her role on Days of our Lives. “22 years on Days was such an incredible journey and to be honored by my peers with a nomination for my work is priceless,” Sweeney, who left the series in October, tells Cynopsis. Event airs Sunday, April 26 at 8p, live on Pop; for the full list of nominees, go here.
AccuWeather, Inc. launched AccuWeather Network, focused on local weather with features of national and regional interest. Topics include safety, lifestyle, health, travel and business.
