“American institution” Betty White will receive NATAS’ Lifetime Achievement Award at the 42nd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards. In addition to her robust primetime resume, Golden Girl White has daytime cred, too, as a game show regular – she won an Emmy for Outstanding Game Show Host in 1983, for Just Men – and a role on CBS soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful. “The NATAS Daytime awards committee unanimously approved it. It just seemed like this is so long overdue,” David Michaels, NATAS SVP, tells Cynopsis. “I’ve been working with Betty and she is a dream come true. Never disappoints. Her stint on B&B was amazing. She is exactly who you would want her to be.” Awards show airs on Pop Sunday, April 26 at 8p.
IN THE NEWS
Jessica Lange is “done” with FX’s American Horror Story after four seasons, she announced at PaleyFest. “We’ve had a great run here,” said Lange, who’s picked up two Emmys for her roles in the series. “I absolutely love doing these four characters, and in all the madness, I love the writers and [creator] Ryan [Murphy] and the insanity of shooting it.” Checking in to American Horror Story: Hotel for season five, with Lady Gaga: Ryan Murphy collaborators Matt Bomer (The Normal Heart, Glee) and Cheyenne Jackson (Glee).
Stephen “tWitch” Boss and Travis Wall will return to mentor the top 20 finalists on season 12 of Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance. Boss was runner-up in season 4; Wall was runner-up in the show’s sophomore season. They join new season judges Paula Abdul and Jason Derulo, vet Nigel Lythgoe and host Cat Deeley. SYTYCD premieres Monday, June 1.
What prompted Kathy Griffin to quit E!’s Fashion Police after just seven episodes? Griffin, who tweeted her exit on Friday, told Howard Stern, “I probably shouldn’t have taken the gig” just six months after host Joan Rivers’ death. To the hosts of ABC morning show The View, Griffin said, “It’s kind of like buying a house. You don’t really know until you spend the first night there.”
With Betty White set to receive a lifetime achievement award, Cynopsis wants to know: What was your favorite Betty role? Vote at Cynopsis.com.
Cablevision is the first cable provider signed up to offer HBO’s standalone streaming service, HBO Now, to its Internet customers. “We are well-positioned to support HBO Now and, as technology advances, Cablevision will continue to meet the evolving needs of our customers,” said Cablevision COO Kristin Dolan. Service launches in April – just in time for the season five premiere of Game of Thrones.
