Good morning. It’s Wednesday March 11, 2015, and this is your first early morning Sports briefing.

CBS Sports and Turner Sports detailed programming plans for the upcoming NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship set to run across four national television networks  TBS, CBS, TNT and truTV  as well as NCAA March Madness Live. While CBS takes on the National Championship on April, 6, TBS will televise the NCAA Final Four with the national semifinal games set for April 4. The companies will also offer team-specific, originally produced telecasts of the Final Four with the return of its “TeamCasts” on TNT and truTV, featuring separate announce teams and multiple viewing options highlighting each of the competing schools. This year will also see the return of NCAA March Madness Confidential, offering behind-the-scenes access with NCAA Tournament bound teams. Overall, CBS carries 22 games, TBS has 20, truTV gets 15 and TNT is on deck for 14.

On the digital front, NCAA March Madness Live will serve as the digital destination for all 67 games and offer “a sleeker design, improved navigation, an all-new GameCenter experience, a new “run” game and new sections focused on providing fans with more content than ever before.” Co-presenting sponsors for NCAA March Madness Live include: AT&T, Capital One, Coke Zero with Buick, Capital One and Coke Zero sponsoring the app for iPhone and iPad, while AT&T, Capital One and Infiniti sponsor the Android app.

ON THE AIR

Big changes for the PGA Grand Slam of Golf, which will head to Trump National Golf Club in LA and Golf Channel on TV. The event takes place from Oct. 19-21 and is part of a multi-year agreement between the PGA of America and the Trump Organization. In addition, PGA Grand Slam week at Trump National Golf Club  Los Angeles will feature the 2015 PGA Junior League Golf Championship, Oct. 17-19. Golf Channel’s coverage will air live on Tuesday, Oct. 20 and Wednesday, Oct. 21, from 3-8p and include primetime replays.

MLS kick started the season with good news for Univision and ESPN. UniMas’ broadcast of the MLS season opener pitting the Galaxy/Fire saw gains of 44% among Total Viewers and 111% among Adults 18-49 compared to last season’s MLS opener, according to Nielsen. The match averaged 341,000 Total Viewers and 215,000 Adults 18-49.

Sunday’s Orlando City-New York City MLS season opener for ESPN2 generated 539,000 viewers for the network, easily besting the network season broadcast average of 225,000 for 15 regular-season broadcasts in 2014.

FOX Sports saw Saturday’s Monster Energy Supercross race at Daytona score 590,000 viewers, according to Nielsen. That marks the most-watched supercross telecast on FOX Sports 1 since launch. The race also saw 288,000 viewers in the A18-49 category.

ESPN locked in a multi-year extension with MLB analyst Dallas Braden that will see him continue to appear on Baseball Tonight and also serve as a game analyst. Braden joined ESPN at the start of the 2014 season. Braden’s first appearance of the 2015 season is currently scheduled for Opening Day on Monday, April 6 when he’ll serve as the game analyst for the Giants/Diamondacks game at 10p on ESPN2.

MLB Network has picked up Kelly Nash as the newest member of its on-air team. Nash makes her MLB Network debut today, reporting updates from Spring Training. Nash most recently served as a sideline reporter for FOX Sports Florida, covering the Tampa Bay Rays as well as the Orlando Magic and Tampa Bay Lightning.

The UFC continues to broaden its international ties, entering a broadcast partnership with NOVA Sport that will see the promotion’s events broadcast for the first time in Czech Republic and Slovakia on the NOVA Sport premium channel. Viewers will also get access to the UFC Ultimate Insider weekly. Ondrej Novotny will announce UFC broadcasts on the network.

ESPN launches coverage of 11 NCAA Winter Championships starting Friday, starting with the Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championship on ESPNU and ESPN3. Other sports will include Men’s and Women’s Fencing, Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving and conclude with Women’s Gymnastics. ESPNU and ESPN will also televise the Women’s Bowling Championship, plus the Women’s Basketball Championship and Men’s Ice Hockey and Wrestling.

Coverage of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament is 95% sold, according to Ad Age. According to the report, the going rate for a 30-second spot for the Championship game on CBS is notching a cool $1.5 million. Brands launching new campaigns will include NCAA Corporate Champions AT&T, Coca-Cola, and Capital One as well as official partners that include Allstate, Buick and Burger King.

Samsung Canada and the NHL formally launched a multi-year partnership, making the brand the first-ever exclusive partner in the mobile, tablet, and wearable hardware category. The partnership in Canada includes sponsorship across the League’s digital assets NHL.com, NHL Social, and within the NHL app. “Working hand-in-hand with the NHL, we have enhanced the mobile experience for the millions of avid hockey fans across Canada, offering them a unique point of view and an unparalleled fan journey,” said Paul Brannen, Executive Vice President, Mobile Solutions, Samsung Canada. “The way fans are watching sports is evolving, and this partnership helps us put the fan at the center of the action.”

Yahoo Sports Radio will see Mahindra USA launch a nationwide marketing partnership on its platforms. Mahindra becomes a presenting sponsor of Yahoo Sports Radio’s coverage updates of several of the largest sporting events of the year, including the Super Bowl and the upcoming March Madness Collegiate Basketball events. In part of the deal, Mahindra is offering First Responders across America an opportunity to win a Mahindra eMax 22 HST tractor with front-end loader. Any active or retired law enforcement, firefighter or EMT is eligible to enter through Yahoo Sports Radio’s website.

The WWE is inducting its first-ever fan into its Hall of Fame, announcing that Connor Michalek, a Pittsburgh native who passed away last year from cancer, will be the first-ever recipient of The Warrior Award, which will be presented each year at the WWE Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. According to the company, The Warrior Award will be given to someone who has “exhibited unwavering strength and perseverance, and who lives life with the courage and compassion that embodies the indomitable spirit of WWE Hall of Famer, The Ultimate Warrior.”

The Tiger Woods Foundation entered an exclusive partnership with daily fantasy sports company DraftKings. The deal will see DraftKings designated as the “Official Daily Fantasy Sports Partner” of the D.C.-based Quicken Loans National and the Boston area’s Deutsche Bank Championship and will host game and contest opportunities with the foundation’s annual Tiger Jam held in Las Vegas. DraftKings will also receive prominent placement on the two PGA TOUR tournament properties, with assets in e-newsletter marketing, inclusion in social media updates and on-site activation.

Anthem Media Group is launching DailyRoto.com, a daily fantasy sports site covering the $1.7 billion fantasy sports industry. DailyRoto.com will offer content from the talent that includes Drew Dinkmeyer, Michael Leone, and Adam Hummell. In addition to the launch, DailyRoto.com was picked by ESPN’s Matthew Berry as one of six sites included on RotoPassBaseball.com, a fantasy sports portal Berry assembled.

SportsBlog announced record traffic for a lone blog post from March 8-9. The post, from NFL free agent Torrey Smith to Baltimore Ravens, notched over 500,000 views.
