NEW PROGRAMMING + DEALS

HBO’s a la carte streaming service will exclusively premiere on Apple devices as of April 12 for $14.99 a month. Announced at an Apple event in San Francisco yesterday, HBO Now will offer more than 2,000 titles for Apple iPhone, iPad, Apple TV as well as via HBONow.com. “With HBO Now, you will have access to all our acclaimed original programming – past, present and future,” HBO CEO Richard Plepler said. HBO will explore distribution opportunities with existing distributors and digital partners for HBO Now after launch.

….Apple will launch the Apple Watch on April 24 with three versions – Apple Watch Sport, Apple Watch, and Apple Watch Edition, with a starting cost of $349. ESPN, CNN, Facebook, Twitter, MLB.com and other companies will provide text and photo alerts to wearers of the watch, which will support Apple Pay. Pre-orders start April 10.

YouTube celeb Timothy DeLaGhetto (Traphik) signed with Hollywood agency CAA, joining other YT stars Mamrie Hart, Joe Penna, Jerome Jarre and Casey Neistat. CAA will develop DeLaGhetto’s digital and branded content, and expand his presence in TV, commercials, and publishing. DeLaGhetto has more than 2.7 million subscribers, 600 million video views and more than 1.8 million followers on social media channels.

Movie and TV streaming platform Popcornflix acquired a slate of foreign films from Film Movement. Users can now stream Cannes Special Jury Prize winner A Screaming Man, Sundance Jury Prize Winner Manito, and The Way I Spent the End of the World, starring Dorotheea Petre, winner of Best Actress at Cannes. PopcornFlix and affiliate apps Frightpix and PopcornFlix Kids are available on Roku, Xbox consoles, iOS and Android devices.

Left Brain Digital released the second season of the web series Johnny Dynamo on YouTube. The new season features Terry Kiser (Three’s Company) and Tiny Lister (The Dark Knight); show follows a shamed 80’s TV star trying to make a comeback.

The iHeartRadio Music Awards will return on March 29 on NBC with Jamie Foxx as host. The three-hour telecast will honor America’s most popular artists and songs as determined by the iHeartRadio Chart and fan voting through iHeartRadio stations nationwide. The event will air from 8-11p ET as well as on iHeartMedia stations and on its digital platform.

To kick off Women’s History Month, HelloBeautiful launched its first short documentary from the recently-launched HB Studios in L.A. Women on Top is a 14-minute doc featuring Soledad O’Brien, Lisa Leslie, Eve, Anika Noni Rose, Jurnee Smollett, Jody Watley, Chrisette Michele, Tia Mowry and Beverly Johnson. Hellobeautiful.com is an online destination for women of color.

Nielsen’s study of Twitter activity around live prime-time broadcasts and cable TV revealed that social media is an indicator for general audience engagement. Nielsen’s Neuro division specifically noted that changes in Twitter TV activity correlate to emotion, memory, and attention 79.5 percent of the time.

CBS unveiled a “feel-good” video hub with Toyota called Viewers to Volunteers, or V2V. When users watch clips on V2V, they accumulate credits that can be converted to donations for charities of their choosing, from Special Olympics to the Meals on Wheels Association of America. Although it’s a branded content platform, there are no banner ads or pre-roll; the platform is meant to drive marketers and their ad budgets to CBS, the net’s EcoMedia division founder and president Paul Polizzotto told the Wall Street Journal.

Real-time TV ad tracking wywy announced the new data connector app on the Adobe Cloud Marketing Exchange, an Adobe core service that provides a marketplace for pre-built applications and integrations. The wywy TV Analytics app will connect advertisers’ TV campaigns with their web tracking data in Adobe Analytics, allowing them to measure the effect of TV advertising on website performance.

Dish Network hired Scott Skurnick as Vice President of Digital Acquisition. Previously, he was Divisional Vice President of Customer Acquisition at Sears Holdings.

Lisa Holme has been promoted from Director to Vice President, Content Acquisition, at Hulu. In her new role, Holme will oversee all efforts around content strategy, content licensing, and business development. She will continue to report to SVP, Head of Content Craig Erwich.
