Fox News Channel is set to air one-hour interviews and voter Q&As with each of the four remaining Republican candidates across primetime on tonight  going head-to-head with CNN‘s Democratic debate at 9p and airing a day ahead of CNN‘s GOP debate on Thursday. FNC’s election coverage begins at 7p with On The Record With Greta Van Susteren speaking with Ohio Gov. John Kasich. Next up, The O’Reilly Factor at 8p. The Kelly File, featuring Megyn Kelly attending a campaign event in North Carolina for an interview with Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, follows at 9p. Then, at 10p, Sean Hannity spends an hour with Donald Trump from the campaign trail in Fayetteville, NC, before Kelly returns interviewing Sen. Marco Rubio from Florida.

Dancing With the Stars‘ celebrity cast was announced live on Tuesday’s Good Morning America. Amazon has entered an in-theater marketing relationship with National CineMedia. The deal brings original content from Amazon Prime Video’s programming to the big screen. Amazon’s debut long-form content pieces for NCM’s FirstLook pre-show featured a look at the new season of Mozart in the Jungle. In March, Amazon will give moviegoers a behind-the-scenes look at season two of Bosch as well as Tumble Leaf, aimed at preschoolers. “Movie and TV marketing have always had a great symbiotic relationship, and now with the many new ways to enjoy entertainment programming through Amazon, it’s the logical next step in the evolution of media to expand that relationship to include streaming video as well,” said Cliff Marks, President of Sales and Marketing for NCM.

It’s the end of an era on VH1, when the series finale of Mob Wives airs Wednesday, March 9 at 8p. Directly following at 9p, the network presents Larger Than Life: A Celebration of Big Ang, a tribute to Angela “Big Ang” Raiola, who died in February. The final Mob Wives reunion show airs Wednesday, March 16 at 8p.

MTV announced nominees for the 2016 MTV Movie Awards. Avengers: Age of Ultron, Creed, Deadpool, Jurassic World, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Straight Outta Compton scored nominations for Movie of the Year, with Star Wars: The Force Awakens nabbing the most nominations (11 total). The network also unveiled two new categories for the 2016 show: True Story and Documentary. The ceremony, hosted by Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart, airs Sunday, April 10 at 8p on MTV.

An interactive installment inspired by CW’s Containment will place fans into an outbreak as part of a promotion for the series, bowing Tuesday, April 19 at 9p. The immersive Containment pop-up will take place March 11 to 13 in Austin, Texas, at Banger’s Sausage House and Beer Garden in Austin with Legendary Digital Networks’ Nerdist, Geek & Sundry and Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls.

PRODUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT

HBO has licensed two projects from Fusion. Ten-episode series Outpost explores Latin America, while one-hour special Hate in America with Jorge Ramos features the journalist

investigating why hatred seems to be growing in the U.S.

Lifestyle production company Orion Entertainment has officially transitioned to Dorsey Pictures. The name change follows Red Arrow Entertainment Group’s majority stake acquisition that was announced in January. To date, Dorsey Pictures has produced more than 1,000 hours of TV programming for a variety of major US TV and cable networks including HGTV, Discovery, History, DIY, Travel Channel, ESPN, National Geographic and more.

Cineflix Media Inc. has inked a multiyear first-look deal with EP/showrunner George Moll to exclusively produce all new unscripted and scripted content he develops. Based in LA, Moll will work closely with Cineflix’s development team led by Dave Hamilton. Cineflix Rights will have the exclusive first-look to distribute Moll’s content.

Dragonfly has been commissioned by BBC One to produce a one-hour documentary that explores the impact of a new screening test said to detect Down’s Syndrome. Actress Sally Phillips, who is a mother to a child with Down’s Syndrome, explores the emotionally charged debate.

COMING UP

Public television documentary series Global Health Frontiers expands to a weekly newsmagazine. The series, exploring the impact of hot-button health issues central to daily conversation in the United States, bows Thursday, March 31 at 6p and 9p on WORLD Channel (check local listings). Encores air later that night at 11p, Friday, April 1 at 2a, 10a and 4p, and Saturday, April 2 at 5a.

Freeform is bringing the animated action to viewers during March’s “Funday” weekend programming event running Saturday, March 19 through Sunday, March 20. Highlights include: A Bug’s Life, The Jungle Book, Ratatouille and Pocahontas.

NEW SERIES

ID explores the world of hostage negotiations with Deadly Demands. Premiering Monday, March 14 at 10p, the show blends audio from negotiations with expert testimony to offer a look at terrifying standoffs.

Oxygen Media and Gabby Douglas vault toward Rio as Douglas Family Gold premieres Wednesday, May 25 at 10p. The docu-series follows the Olympic gold medal gymnast and her clan on the road to her second Olympic games.

Esquire takes viewers inside the world of rising hip-hop star Mike Stud, when The Mike Stud Project (wt) premieres this summer. The series follows the self-made music entrepreneur as he navigates friendships, fame and life on the road.

RETURNING SERIES

A&E ordered a second season of 60 Days In, ahead of the first season premiere Thursday, March 10 at 9p. The docu-series will return to Clark County Jail in Jeffersonville, Indiana as eight participants enter the world of incarceration.

AMC has ordered a sophomore season of Into the Badlands to premiere in 2017. The series, which launched behind The Walking Dead, delivered the third highest rated first season in U.S. cable history, averaging5.6 million viewers per episode, including 3.4 million A18-49 in Live+7 ratings.

Netflix renewed Chef’s Table for Seasons 2, 3 and 4. The culinary docu-series returns Friday, May 27.

NBC has set premiere dates for two of its summer series. Season 11 of America’s Got Talent bows Tuesday, May 31 at 8p with new judge Simon Cowell. American Ninja Warrior returns for Season 8 on Wednesday, June 1 at 8p with a special two-hour premiere.

Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta‘s Season 5 premiere airs Monday, April 4 at 8p on VH1. Series veteran K. Michelle is returning, and the franchise is welcoming its first transgender female, music producer D. Smith.

All new episodes of Animal Planet‘s Finding Bigfoot launch with a two-hour premiere on Thursday, March 31 at 9p. In the opener, the team heads to North California to meet with the Supernatural Bigfoot Group.

Season 3 of Skin Wars, premieres Wednesday, April 20 at 10p on GSN. Hosted by Rebecca Romijn, the show seeks to find the most innovative body painter in America.

DIGITAL DOINGS

Revolt has launched Revolt 2 Vote, an initiative to mobilize and engage youth in the 2016 political cycle featuring original research, a weekly digital series and on-the-ground coverage of the Democratic National Convention, the Republican National Convention, and the Presidential and Vice Presidential debates.

CASTING NEWS

That ’70s Show alum Wilmer Valderrama is joining ABC‘s Grey’s Anatomy for a mulit-episode arc.

Ashley Judd, Jeffrey Tambor and Richard Kind join Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi in Tangled: Before Ever After. Disney Channel‘s upcoming animated series for kids, tweens and families is based on Walt Disney Animation Studios feature film.

CBS has cast George Eads (CSI) in the pilot episode of the reboot of 1985 series MacGyver. He’ll play government employee Lincoln.

Bruce Greenwood, who’s playing Gil Garcetti in FX’s The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, has secured his next project: CBS drama pilot Four Stars, where he’ll play the patriarch of a powerful family in Tampa, Florida.

Anna Torv (Fringe) has boarded upcoming Netflix drama Mind Hunter as Wendy, a psychologist. Series is based on the 1996 book Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit by John Douglas and Mark Olshanker.

Devin Kelley (Resurrection) has been tapped for a co-starring role in Frequency, a reimagining of the 2000 film. The CW pilot centers on Raimy (Peyton List), a police detective who discovers she can to speak to her late father (Riley Smith) via ham radio. Kelley will play Julie, Raimy’s mother.

Lindsey Morgan (The 100) is set to guest-star on NBC‘s The Night Shift. She’ll appear on the third episode of Season 3 as Kryztal, a high-strung bride.

UPFRONTS

Midtown’s Paley Center for Media was the site of Game Show Network’s Upfront presentation on Tuesday, a low-key but upbeat affair for a network boasting its fourth consecutive year of growth in all key demos, and its most-watched year ever in 2015. “Our little niche television network is now a top 30 television network,” said David Goldhill, president and CEO. “Last year 80 million Americans watched GSN. On purpose.” Talent on hand included Skin Wars host Rebecca Romijn, Idiotest’s Ben Gleib, Hellevator’s Jen and Sylvia Soska, Skin Wars judge RuPaul Charles and Donald Faison.

Getting the green light are spin-off Skin Wars: Fresh Paint, hosted by RuPaul Charles and featuring three former Skin Wars contestants mentoring new artists each week; merchandising competition series Window Warriors, from Skin Wars producer Michael Levitt Productions, and game show Winsanity, from Barracuda Television Productions and Chris Grant of Electus, hosted by Scrubs alum Donald “this is one of the most fun things I’ve ever done” Faison. Election special Political Idiotest, hosted by Gleib, aims to “determine once and for all which political party has the best ‘idiots.’”

Pilot projects include Breaking App (wt), a competition to find the next great app, executive produced by Brien Meagher and Rhett Bachner of B17 Entertainment and Cheri Brownlee of Cheri Sundae Productions and crime-solving game The Investigation, exec produced by Stephen Land and Allison Wallach of Jupiter Entertainment. In development is one-hour game show Divided, tasking strangers with coming to a consensus, game show Run & Buzz and Glass Wars, a competition for glassblowers.

Also of note: 60 percent of the net’s new viewers last year were under 50, and median age has fallen to 59. “We’re going to continue to make shows that are really defined by being fun, funny and even a bit uplifting and inspiring, because that’s what GSN is about,” said Goldhill. “So I am proud to announce that we are going to be doing more of the same.”

ADVERTISING & MARKETING

Syfy and Spotify have entered into a new digital and on-air integration partnership for the network’s upcoming thriller Hunters. The series will feature a Spotify in-show integration throughout the 13-part season, which airs Mondays at 10p beginning April 11. The partnership will also extend online to Spotify, which will host a Hunters-themed experience throughout the series’ run.

Heading into Upfronts, Viacom is expanding its Viacom Vantage data-driven offerings. Vantage Target Discovery uses data-mining techniques to help marketers identify “persuadables,” consumers who are not currently using a particular brand but have the propensity to be receptive to messaging, while Vantage Instant Audience aims to simplify the data-driven targeting process with a turnkey product that delivers audiences based on insights about Viacom’s fans and allows for more flexible campaigns. Also in the arsenal: recently launched Echo Social Graph 2.0, Viewprint and Velocity Content Network.

Independent cable TV ad management company Viamedia has reached an agreement with TDS Telecom to represent advertising sales for TDS video services in Nashville and Knoxville, Tennessee; Jacksonville, Florida; and Madison, Wisconsin.

GLOBAL GOINGS ON

Peace Point Rights has announced that new 4K series Inspired with Anna Olson, featuring the celebrity chef, has been greenlit by Scripps Networks Asia-Pacific. It marks the network’s first original commission by a North American producer. The show has also been licensed to Canada’s Shaw Media and begins production this month across Asia.

ZooMoo Animal Friends premiered on CCTV14 in China, last month, to 252 million viewers. The children’s series was the number one show in the country in its time slot in the 4-14 year old demo and, with a 2.27 percent audience share, won the top ranked show across the demo.

UK based production entity Woodcut Media has been commissioned to produce Animal Antics by MTG World for Viasat Nature. The series showcases a compilation of comedic animal escapades.

Independent UK based distributor DCD Rights has secured new deals for docudrama Real Detective, ahead of the Cannes debut of the series at MIPTV 2016. The true crime series has been acquired by Sony Pictures Television for broadcast on channel True Crime in the UK and by Nine Network in Australia.

Canal Once, Mexico’s public broadcasting network, unveils the second season of Palabra de Autor on Saturday, March 12 at 10p. Top Mexican writers reveal their source of inspiration, among other trade secrets.

RATINGS

Dr. Phil (3.5 live plus same day national Nielsen rating, up 3 percent from the week before) pulled away from the talk show field, finishing first in the category for the eighth week in a row and opening up its widest margin since mid-November in the session ending February 28. Phil was also tops in talk among W25-54 with a 1.6 in the key demo.

Steve Harvey‘s Family Feud (7.2, up 3 percent) and Wheel of Fortune (7.2, up 6 percent) tied for first place in the game show category.

Judge Judy (7.9, up 1 percent) had a big week, growing 11 percent from last year and topping all syndicated strips for the 35th time in the past 36 frames. A second stand-out courtroom, Hot Bench (2.7, up 4 percent), equaled its all-time high and shot up 50 percent from last year.

The Voice ranked at #1 and #2 as NBC won the ratings week of February 29 to March 6 among The Big 4 nets in A18-49. The network swept Mondays in A18-49 as the night’s top show, jumping 17 percent vs. its fall finale. Blindspot won the 10p by a 50 percent margin. NBC won Tuesday in all key demos, as The Voice led the 8-10p slot in 18-49 by 67 percent, delivering a 5-month time period high.

ABC claimed Thursday’s top 2 highest-rated series among A18-49 in the L+3 numbers, with Grey’s Anatomy solidifying its rank as #1 (3.5 rating) and How To Get Away with Murder jumped from #9 in L+SD to #2 in L+3 (2.6 rating).

Discovery Communications has upped 16-year company veteran David Leavy to Chief Corporate Operations and Communications Officer. He was most recently Chief Communications Officer and Senior Executive Vice President, Corporate Marketing and Business Operations for the company.

WE tv has added Lauren Lazin to its Original Programming team as an Executive Producer. She previously worked on projects at Showtime, Bravo, The Style Network, A&E and Nickelodeon, and most recently directed L Word Mississippi: Hate the Sin for Showtime. Programming Executive Kate Farrell, formerly an executive producer at the net, has been promoted to Vice President of Original Programming.

KSBW 8 sports director and veteran California central coast sportscaster Dennis Lehnen has announced plans for retirement after 35 years of broadcasting on KSBW Action News 8.
