A CYNOPSIS MESSAGE FROM truTV

DON’T TAKE OUR WORD FOR IT.
The critics agree.  truTV is WAY MORE FUN.

"A-" (Friends of the People) – Entertainment Weekly
"Mesmerizing" (Fake Off) – Salon.com
"…none have worked the gimmick better than Michael Carbonaro" - The New York Times
"…possibly the funniest, most ridiculous show I’ve seen in years." (Impractical Jokers) - New York Post

The New truTV: All New Line-Up. WAY MORE FUN.

Leonard Nimoy, best known as Stark Trek’s iconic human-alien Mr. Spock, died February 27 of end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He was 83. Tributes flowed for the actor, who also directed film and television, wrote poetry and published his own photography. “Long before being nerdy was cool, there was Leonard Nimoy,” said President Obama said in a statement following the actor’s death. “Leonard was a lifelong lover of the arts and humanities, a supporter of the sciences, generous with his talent and his time.” Star Trek castmates William Shatner and George Takei expressed their grief in posts online, while astronaut Terry W. Virts tweeted a photo of himself giving the Vulcan hand salute…from the International

Space Station.

IN THE NEWS

Kelly Osbourne is leaving E!’s Fashion Police after five years “to pursue other opportunities,” announced the net on Friday. No replacement has been announced. Osbourne had tweeted that she was considering leaving the show after a post-Oscar show in which co-host Giuiliana Rancic said actress/singer Zendaya’s hairstyle suggested the smell of patchouli oil or weed; Rancic apologized for the remark on E! News the next day. Fashion Police returns Friday, March 30 at 9p.

Craig Ferguson, who ended his stint as Late Late Show host in December, joins the cast of ABC comedy pilot The King of 7B. Ferguson’s acting credits include The Drew Carey Show; he continues as host of syndicated game show Celebrity Name Game.

Tyler Perry series will keep rolling on OWN. The net ordered 23 more eps of drama The Haves and the Have Nots (season two bow was the best in OWN’s history), 22 of If Loving You Is Wrong (most recent season average: over 1.7 million viewers), 22 of comedy Love Thy Neighbor (900,000 weekly viewers) and 20 of comedy For Better or Worse (over 1 million weekly viewers). “Oprah Winfrey’s partnership with Tyler Perry has been a tremendous success, garnering millions of viewers for OWN and setting ratings records,” said OWN president Erik Logan. “Tyler’s original series have quickly become appointment viewing for a passionate audience.”

Crackle will be the first streaming network to present at the TV Upfronts. Sony’s online video service is skipping digital Newfronts, which begin April 27, for an advertiser presentation on April 14. Why the move? “Our streaming network is delivering premium, long form content in a living room environment,” Eric Berger, GM of Crackle, tells Cynopsis, “with high engagement and measured by third parties, which is akin to a TV model.” On hand for announcements: Jerry Seinfeld, star of web series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, as well as additional “surprise guests.”

Star Trek fans: What was Mr. Spock’s most memorable line? Weigh in on the new Cynopsis poll.

PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

WGN America gave a straight-to-series order to Underground, starring Law & Order: SVU alum Christopher Meloni, from Sony Pictures Television and Tribune Studios. Drama follows the daring escape of a group of slaves.

NBC News’ Peacock Productions signed a deal with Brian Banks, advocate for the wrongfully convicted, to develop a new unscripted series investigating a potential case of wrongful conviction. “Brian has unique insight into the complex world of the criminal justice system,” said Sharon Scott, president and GM of Peacock. “He spent a decade fighting to clear his name and will draw on that experience during his investigation of one captivating case that has all the drama of a scripted series  except it is real.”

ABC Family ordered a fifth season of Baby Daddy. Season finale of the comedy, cable’s number one series Wednesdays at 8:30p among A18-34, W18-34 and F12-34, airs March 18.

COMING UP

Original daily series The Xperiment launches on BET today at 5p. Comedian Brandon Broady oversees celeb guests, sketches, viral clips and music on what the net calls “a game-changing and dope new show.”

ADVERTISING

A decline in auto advertising helped drive down broadcast TV advertising in 4Q14, according to MoffettNathanson analysis from Kantar Media data. Car companies, the biggest category, dipped 5 percent to $1.02 billion. It was a different story on cable, with automotive ad dollars up 3 percent, to $696 million.

DISTRIBUTION AND CARRIAGE

The Fremantle Corporation and CCI Entertainment announced a strategic distribution relationship on CCI Releasing’s drama, lifestyle and factual library for international distribution heading into MIPTV. Library includes a total of 83 hours available worldwide.

CASTING

Daniel Stern (Home Alone) has been cast in NBC comedy pilot Strange Calls, as an elderly night watchman in a rural town.

Kim Raver (24) landed the lead in ABC drama pilot The Advocate, as a woman who leaves behind a business career to fight for patients caught in the health care maze.

Dean Cain (Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman) and Helen Slater (Supergirl) will guest star in “mystery roles” on CBS’s Supergirl pilot.

Add Patrick Warburton (Rules of Engagement) to the cast of NBC’s Suzanne Martin pilot about empty-nesters whose kids and parents move back home. Stacy Keach plays the father of Warburton’s character.

Elliott Gould (Ray Donovan) will play the head of a law firm in CBS drama pilot Doubt. Gould is a regular on Fox’s low-rated Mulaney, which has yet to be renewed.

Lost’s Terry O’Quinn won the male lead role in ABC drama pilot The Adversaries, focused on a New York legal dynasty.

Keegan-Michael Key (Key & Peele) plays a game show host on FXX’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, with prime time newcomer Megan Messmer (AwesomenessTV) as stage manager on the ep airing Wednesday, March 4 at 10p.

Ving Rhames (Mission Impossible) will co-star in ABC’s NBA buddy comedy pilot from ABC Studios.

Sarah Chalke (Scrubs) will star opposite Rob Riggle (Modern Family) in Fox comedy pilot 48 Hours ‘Til Monday, playing a former careerwoman who discovers being a stay-at-home-mom is more challenging than she expected.
