IN THE NEWS

Matt LeBlanc (Episodes) has landed a job as a presenter on the BBC’s Top Gear, announced BBC America. The former Friend will be the car show’s first non-British host in 39 years. A self-described “car nut,” LeBlanc has appeared twice as a guest, and holds the record as the fastest celeb to date around the Top Gear track in its “reasonably priced car.” Piers Morgan cheered the news, tweeting that it is “a brilliant choice [with] huge global recognition.” Jeremy Clarkson, whose contract with Top Gear was not renewed last year after a run-in with a show producer, is set to host a new auto show on Amazon Prime.

Viacom Inc.’s Philippe Dauman was elected executive chairman at Viacom Inc., succeeding 92-year-old Sumner Redstone. The vote comes one day after Les Moonves was elected chairman of CBS Corp., succeeding Redstone.

TV One is introducing a new look and tagline, “REPRESENT,” during tonight’s telecast of the 47th Annual NAACP Image Awards. “TV One is evolving our brand because our viewers want programming that represents them not as a monolith, but as unique individuals with diverse interests and lives,” Lori Hall, SVP, marketing, tells Cynopsis. “That’s what we promise to represent. It’s a rebirth of a network with passionate and loyal fans who will invite new viewers to sample our fresh, new voice and offerings.”

It didn’t take long for USA to renew freshman Colony, the sci-fi drama from Carlton Cuse and Ryan Condal. “Carlton and Ryan have successfully delivered a story that tests the strengths and weaknesses of a society in duress, and the bonds of a family divided,” said Chris McCumber, net president. “Colony’s performance across all platforms has been impressive.” Fourth episode aired Thursday at 10p.

Nexstar Broadcasting Group and Cox Communications agreed to a new distribution pact ahead of the Super Bowl that will end a blackout. A carriage dispute had resulted in consumers in nine markets losing access to local affiliates.

Movie studio Lionsgate has approached Starz about initiating acquisition talks, said Starz in a regulatory filing on Thursday. There has been speculation about a merger since last year, when investor John Malone acquired a minority stake in Lionsgate via a stock swap with Starz, of which he is the largest shareholder.

Fox News will host its third GOP debate on Thursday, March 3 at 9p, with Megyn Kelly, Bret Baier and Chris Wallace back to moderate. It will be the 11th Republican presidential primary contest. Donald Trump skipped the last Fox News debate after the net refused to remove Kelly as moderator, but candidate and network appear to have made up.

After ten years of losses, Charter added 11,000 video customers in 2015, the company reported in an earnings call. Good news for those customers: Charter said it will not raise prices in 2016. Charter also said it added 450,000 high-speed Internet customers in 4Q15. “Our biggest growth opportunity is to take video share from other providers,” said Charter president and CEO Tom Rutledge. “We think that in the places where we operate, our video share is about 50 percent. We think we have tremendous upside.”

Miley Cyrus will join the upcoming season of NBC’s The Voice as a key advisor. “When Miley speaks everyone pays attention,” explains Paul Telegdy, president, alternative and late night programming. Season ten, with coaches Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Pharrell Williams and Christina Aguilera, launches Monday, February 29 at 8p.

Fox is launching late night series Party Over Here, from SNL alums Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone of The Lonley Island. Weekly half-hour sketch comedy starring Nicole Byer (Girl Code), Jessica McKenna (Riot) and Alison Rich (Resident Advisors) premieres Saturday, March 12 at 11p.

Added to the eclectic Grammy Awards lineup: Chris Stapleton, Gary Clark, Jr. and Bonnie Raitt will pay tribute to B.B. King; Pitbull takes to the stage with Travis Barker, Robin Thicke and “surprise special guests” and Alice Cooper, Johnny Depp and Joe Perry debut with their rock supergroup, The Hollywood Vampires. Show airs live on CBS Monday, February 15 at 8p.

A multi-city Bring It! Live Tour this summer will extend the Lifetime program franchise into communities, where fans can watch series stars perform onstage. Audience participation and a new competition storyline are part of the program.

Sleepless in Toledo? Poker Central launched on Buckeye Cable System yesterday. Shows on the 24/7 channel include live play, strategies and player profiles.
