RATINGS

Mini-series The New Edition Story hit record ratings numbers for BET, with parts 1 and 3 ranking as the net’s highest-rated and most-watched telecasts since 2012. Part 1 drew 3.3 million viewers A18-49 and 5.5 million total viewers in Live+3; part 2 delivered 3.1 million A18-49 and 5.3 million total viewers, and part 3 logged 3.3 million in the demo and 5.6 million total viewers on BET alone for the premiere telecast.

History’s nonfiction franchises The Curse of Oak Island and Forged in Fire hit new ratings highs in both total viewers and key demos. Over the first 11 weeks of its fourth season, The Curse of Oak Island ranked as all of cable’s #1 original series on Tuesday nights in the A25-54 (1.4 million) and A18-49 (1.1 million) demos, according to Nielsen (Live+SD, excluding sports, news, repeats and mini-series). Forged in Fire hit series highs in A25-54 (800,000) and A18-49 (747,000) during its January 24 episode.

Univision’s Vino el Amor built its viewership over the prior week among total viewers (up 5 percent to 2.4 million), A18-49 (up 5 percent to 1.0 million) and A18-34 (up 6 percent to 478,000). HGTV’s Beachfront Bargain Hunt averaged a 1.0 rating among viewers P25-54 on Sunday, January 29, at 8p, a 49 percent increase over year-ago levels in this timeslot. With more than 2.6 million total viewers, it was the highest rated premiere ever for this series.

Judge Judy (season high 7.7, up 4 percent from the week before) was one of the few strips in the plus column and the only one in the top ten to set a new Nielsen record for the 2016-17 season. In addition, it outperformed all shows and was ranked number one in syndication overall for the 21st time in the past 25 weeks.

Although top talker Dr. Phil (3.0, down 19 percent) was heavily preempted for news coverage of the January 18 final press conference of President Obama and the January 20 Inauguration of President Trump, it still finished first in talk for the 20th week in a row. Live with Kelly (2.5), Ellen DeGeneres (2.5), Steve Harvey (1.7) and Maury (1.6) were all unchanged from the week before.  Wendy Williams (1.6, up 7 percent) tied Maury for fifth place.

Nickelodeon grabbed basic cable’s top spot with Kids 2-11 (2.4/671,000, up 4 percent over last year), Kids 6-11 (2.0/346,000, up 5 percent) and Kids 2-5 (3.0/325,000, up 7 percent) for the month of January.
