Good morning. It’s Friday January 27, 2017 and this is your first early morning Sports briefing.

FOX Sports is turning to Wieden+Kennedy New York to serve as its first-ever Agency of Record. The partnership between the two will see the global advertising agency lead efforts to elevate and expand FOX Sports’ brand storytelling and advertising campaigns, helping to drive and develop creative activations across all of the network’s top sports properties and original programming, including FS1’s daily studio shows, with a specific emphasis on the FIFA World Cup on FOX. The move ends the agency’s long 25-year run with ESPN that saw the creation of spots such as “This is SportsCenter.”

“We are excited to begin our partnership with Wieden+Kennedy New York, an innovative and creative powerhouse that will help us build on the success of FOX Sports’ marquee live events and growing momentum of FS1’s studio programming,” said Robert Gottlieb, FOX Sports Executive Vice President, Marketing. “Our new partner shares our vision for the future of FOX Sports and will bring proven creative and strategic expertise to the network’s impressive sports rights portfolio.”

ON THE AIR

Cleveland is poised to host MLB’s 2019 All-Star Game, according to the AP, at Progressive Field. The report states that the team will hold a news conference on Friday to formally announce the event. Cleveland last played host in 1997, and also hosted games in 1935, 1954, 1963 and 1981. The Indians will also serve as the first AL host of the game since 2014.

ESPN tackles Super Bowl LI beginning Monday Super Bowl Opening Night while Wednesday through Friday sees SportsCenter and ESPN’s NFL shows will originate from downtown Houston adjacent to the Toyota Center between Austin, Bell, LaBranch and Leeland Streets, while Mike & Mike, First Take and Outside the Lines will be live from Lucky’s Pub. Meanwhile, ESPN Radio’s The Stephen A. Smith Show and Russillo & Kanell will broadcast from Radio Row at the George R. Brown Convention Center. Super Bowl Sunday, meanwhile, opens with SportsCenter at 8a on ESPN, followed by NFL Insiders: Sunday Edition at 10a, and Postseason NFL Countdown President by Snickers at 11a. After the game, the channel will program NFL Primetime President by Audi at 10:30p, followed by an 11:30p edition of SportsCenter.

On the local front, CSN New England revealed that it will showcase more than 70-hours of Super Bowl related coverage as the Patriots face off with the Falcons. The slate marks the most comprehensive coverage in the network’s history On-site coverage from Houston begins Sunday with programming set to include all of the networks’ news and opinion shows, plus dedicated Patriots-related programs, including: Sports Sunday, Chevrolet SportsNet Central, Arbella Early Edition, Town Fair Tire Sports Tonight, Felger & Mazz presented by Nissan, and more.

Meanwhile, NESN will feature Adam Pellerin leading the network’s coverage of Super Bowl week from Houston. He will be joined by Kevin Faulk and Matt Chatham( as they team upto deliver daily coverage for NESN’s three sports news shows: NESN LIVE, NESN Sports Today and NESN Sports Update.

CBS Sports lined up all-day coverage of college football’s annual National Signing Day across CBS Sports Network and CBS Sports Digital platforms on Feb. 1, anchored by a two-hour edition of CBS Sports National Signing Day president by American Family at 10a. The series features Tom Lemming joining host Adam Zucker and analysts Houston Nutt and Brian Jones. Meanwhile, CBS Sports Digital will deliver a five hour live streaming show, National Signing Day Live at 10a, covering early news of commitments, including announcements from top-ranked recruits, breakdowns and rankings of the recruiting classes for every major school, live press conferences, interviews with top college coaches, and more.

UFC and new owners WME/IMG locked in a deal with OSN, the leading pay-TV network in the Middle East and North Africa, for a exclusive long-term partnership that makes OSN “the one-stop destination for UFC fans in the MENA region.” The new partnership will also see the launch of UFC Fight Pass for the area.

Long-time soccer fixture Tommy Smyth is departing ESPN after a quarter-century with the company. The AP reports that Smyth will now call Philadelphia Union games with JP Dellacamera in a new role. His final ESPN telecast was Wednesday.

Jack Daniel’s is doing shots with the NBA, announcing a new multiyear partnership that makes the brand an official marketing partner of the league, as well as the Women’s National Basketball Association, the NBA Development League, and USA Basketball. The agreement marks the largest partnership with a professional sports league in the brand’s history. Activation begins during NBA All-Star 2017 in New Orleans with Jack Daniel’s House No. 7  its hospitality and experiential event, which will be open for two nights bringing local fans and NBA guests together for musical performances, guest rooms with unique programming, eats inspired by southern cuisine, and basketball-themed activities. Jack Daniel’s will also serve as a partner of the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game.

Meanwhile, the Boston Celtics will become the latest team to sport a jersey patch in the NBA, as the team inked a deal with GE for a multi-year partnership in which the world’s leading digital industrial company will become the team’s exclusive Data and Analytics Partner. GE’s deal kicks in with the 2017-18 season, with a component of the relationship focusing on GE’s ability to provide the team “with its best-in-class expertise, products and insights across data science, medical equipment, and lighting solutions” leveraged in areas that include player performance, injury prevention, and business optimization.

Olympic medalist Ryan Lochte has a new sponsor, forging a deal with to join TYR Sport’s roster of athletes. Ryan’s debut will be featured in TYR’s marketing campaign “Just Let Me Work,” and will provide fans with a glimpse into what motivates the decorated athlete moving forward.

The LPGA debuted its 2017 advertising campaign during the first round of the Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA Classic on Golf Channel. The 2017 edition of the campaign focuses on the global reach of the LPGA Tour and the youth of its top players. Spots were created by Austin-based ad agency Divot Group and will be rolled out during LPGA telecasts on Golf Channel over the first several tournaments of the 2017 season.

ESPN announced that its 2016 Jimmy V Week for Cancer Research set a new record, raising more than $3.8 million for the V Foundation for Cancer Research. That is up $600,000 over last year’s total. “ESPN had a record breaking year, as the programming around V Week continues to resonate with fans who understand the urgency of finding a cure for cancer,” said Kevin Martinez, ESPN vice president of Corporate Citizenship. “There was a 42 percent increase in direct donations by fans who are inspired by Jim Valvano’s speech and the incredible stories of cancer patients and caregivers.”

DIGITAL & STREAMING

Feb. 1 sees Rivals.com hosting its first-ever live show to recap National Signing Day! From 6-7p from the Yahoo Studios in New York. The program will feature national recruiting director Mike Farrell and the Rivals.com analysts who will be looking back on all of National Signing Day’s action. Leading up to the show, the Rivals team will bring fans hourly updates long with immediate reactions to all of the biggest signings via Facebook Live and on our annual live NSD blog.

Olympic Channel lined up a new original Series  titled Anatomy of  that will see six-episodes run on its digital platform. The program examines the physiques and unique body characteristics of Olympic athletes to reveal what makes them special, offering physically exhausting tests and expert analysis. The episode featured Swedish snowboarder and 2014 Winter Olympian Sven Thorgren.

Showtime Sports locked in a digital documentary titled Legacy: Bob Hurley that will run in six weekly installments exclusively on SHO.com and the SHOWTIME Sports YouTube channel beginning Feb. 20. The story follows Hurley, who has led the Jersey City boys’ basketball team at Saint Anthony to 28 New Jersey State Championships including a string of nine straight state titles in his nearly 50 years as head coach but now faces a closing of the school due to a financial crisis.

ESPORTS

Electronic Arts announced the schedule for the EA SPORTS FIFA Ultimate Team Championship Series, with the six regional qualifiers and one final event to be broadcast on FUTChampions.com/Live. Competitors will compete for their share of the $1.3 million. The action starts on Feb. 4 with the first Season One Ultimate Team Champion European Regional Final live from Paris. “Since the launch of FIFA 17, more than six million players have competed in FUT Champions and more than 2,000 players have competed in the qualifying tournaments,” said FIFA Competitive Gaming Commissioner, Brent Koning. “Now the top players from around the world are ready to show that they are the best in the game.”

ELeague loads up for the Playoffs of its first-ever ELeague Major today at 10a with a quarterfinals matchup of Astralia/Natus Vincere. The CS:GO battles can be seen live on Twitch and YouTube leading into the Grand Final on Sunday, which will also be on TBS. ELeague’s Game Command will allow fans to watch every playoff match, including the Grand Final, through a customizable interface with thousands of different viewing options. Fans will be able to choose between individual player views (up to four at a time); a team vantage point for either squad’s complete lineup of five players displayed; the observer feed; and a large version of the game map.

G2 Esports announced that esports fans will be able to view live streams from its roster of professional players on Facebook starting Feb. 1. The move begins a multi-platform distribution of live esports gameplay designed to help the esports club grow its global audience. “One of G2’s biggest goals is to share our love of this industry with all fans by making our content as accessible as we can, while also helping lesser-known streamers looking to make a name for themselves,” said G2 founder and CEO Carlos “ocelote” Rodriguez Santiago. “We pride ourselves on innovation, and by leaning into Facebook as an audience platform, we see a world

Nitro Circus named Greg Jacobs to the newly created position of Global Head of Media Distribution where he will be responsible for the worldwide distribution and monetization of Nitro Circus’s media portfolio, which includes acclaimed theatrical releases, TV specials, original series and digital content as well as the Nitro World Games competition.

Independent Sports & Entertainment appointed Michael Ehrlich as VP of Marketing Communications. In his new role, Ehrlich will build the ISE brand overall and support more than 300 MLB, NBA and NFL clients through editorial and social media storytelling, and content creation opportunities.

Meanwhile, McCourt Global announced that former Turner Sports VP of Marketing Jeff Mirman has been named Chief Digital Officer. Mirman will initially focus on the development of enhanced digital strategies for the sports and media assets in the McCourt Global portfolio.

The NHL All-Star Game and the NFL Pro Bowl showcase their top talent on Sunday with the first on NBC at 3:30p, while ESPN carries the other at 7:50p.
