PRODUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT

Lionsgate TV signed reality producers David Shumsky and Mark Harris to create original programming through the duo’s Ohana Pictures imprint. Under the new deal, Lionsgate gets exclusive rights to unscripted TV projects plus first call on any scripted series in development. The first series under the deal is competition series Kicking & Screaming, slated to debut this year on Fox.

Keshet International signed a first-look distribution and development deal with UK-based production entity Woodcut Media. KI will get exclusive access to Woodcut’s new nonscripted crime slate for worldwide distribution, building on its emerging slate of non-scripted, English-language programming.

ABC gave pilot orders to two new projects: Chunk & Bean and Square Roots. The former, written by Ed Herro and Brian Donovan and exec-produced by Dave Hemingson, follows the unlikely friendship of two misfits. The latter, written and exec-produced by Vijal Patel (Black-ish), is about a man who hails from a family of engineers who’s determined to use his logic to help the people with issues – whether they want his help or not. Both originated at ABC Studios.

Pinewood Studios Group and UK-based StoryFirst PST Limited are in a new venture called Pinewood Television. The company will create, develop and finance drama series for the international market, with Helen Gregory serving as creative director.

Fox ordered two drama pilots: A.P.B., which hails from 20th Century Fox TV, and Recon, from Warner Bros. TV. A.P.B., from writer David Slack (Person of Interest), and co-creator/exec producer Len Wiseman (Sleepy Hollow), follows a tech billionaire who buys a troubled police precinct after a loved one is murdered. Recon is written by Caroline Dries (The Vampire Diaries) and exec-produced by TVD co-developers/exec producers Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec.

Nobody puts baby in the corner, part deux. ABC comedy The Goldbergs picked Dirty Dancing as its season 3 ‘80s movie homage episode. The network says there’s no relation, and the episode won’t feature any cast members from the remake or the original film.

Bounce TV will air the fight between featherweight prospect Dennis Galarza and Bence Molnar on Sunday, January 31 at 9p.

Ovation is launching a new weekly documentary block beginning Thursday, February 25 at 7p that will feature contemporary stars showing love for one of their favorite artists and tackling cultural issues. In other Ovation news, the net will premiere Millennials: Growing Up in the 21st Century, a six-part docu-series from filmmaker Rick Stevenson, on Thursday, May 5. The documentary provides an often emotionally raw look into the lives of a diverse group of 21 children as they transition from childhood, through adolescence and emerge as young adults. The series continues through June 9.

RETURNING SERIES

Based on its strong showing out of the gate, Showtime already renewed Wall Street drama Billions for a second season. The opening ep of the Damian Lewis- and Paul Giamatti-starring series set a record for the network, claiming 6.5 million multiplatform viewers in its first week, topping the 2013 Ray Donovan debut by 7 percent.

CASTING

Delroy Lindo has been cast opposite Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood in the ABC pilot for Marvel’s Most Wanted. The show originated as an Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff.

Emmy winner Beau Bridges and NY Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. will guest on CBS medical drama Code Black on Wednesday, February 10. In the episode, Bridges will appear as Pete Delaney, Beckham’s high school football coach, and Beckham will play himself.

MARKETING & ADVERTISING

National CineMedia, peddler of in-theater ad sales, is stepping up its game via a new partnership with ad software company Strata that will provide national advertisers with a single point of contact to specifically target messages in local markets. As well as its theater offerings, the Comcast-owned company will now offer cable, broadcast and other opportunities to brands and advertisers.

Integrated media rep company Gen Media Partners and talent and management company Creative Talent Inc. entered a business development alliance to expand their proprietary services to clients. Under the arrangement, the two entities will work together to generate revenue and growth capabilities for their general market and Hispanic radio clients.

GLOBAL GOINGS-ON
