In a new SEC filing, AT&T says it added over 200,000 video subscribers in Q4 of 2016. And according to the company, those additions were “entirely driven” by the DirecTV Now TV service. DirecTV Now first launched on November 30, and the roll-out has been a bit bumpy. For one, subs have encountered a number of technical glitches. According to a recent report from TechCrunch, AT&T has declined to grant refunds to new customers. The telco will release its Q4 earnings results on Wednesday.

Google’s YouTube announced that it’s surfaced a mistake in how it tabulates lifetime view counts on creators’ ‘About’ pages. According to the announcement (first reported by Variety), YouTube said that the glitch didn’t affect revenues, individual video view counts, or subscriber counts. It could, however, have affected the total number of playlist view counts on playlist pages, as well as the number of overall channel views. It could also have affected channel view counts that are reported by any third-party services that use YouTube’s data API. “As we fix this issue, you may notice lower total view count numbers across these features,” YouTube wrote.

ADVERTISING

For the first time ever, Google is letting advertisers target YouTube viewers based on search data. (For example, an advertiser would be able to target YouTube viewers who searched on Google for, say, winter coats.) Previously, advertisers could target YouTube viewers based on browsing behavior and demographics, but not search histories. Google also says it plans to release a proprietary measurement system for its video giant. The measurement platform (called Ads Data Hub according to AdExchanger) is designed to let advertisers know how their campaigns are performing on YouTube. It’s been tested by a small number of partners, but it’s not widely available yet.

Eyeota, an audience data company that works with programmatic and data-driven advertisers, announced a new partnership with B2B data marketplace Pacifica Data Partners. Under the new pact, Eyeota says that marketers will be able to access more comprehensive B2B audience data through its Eyeota Data Marketplace. Eyeota also recently announced a pact with Oracle Marketing Cloud. OMC will allow marketers and advertisers to use Eyeota data in its Oracle Data Management Platform. Eyeota’s data will be integrated into the platform through the Oracle Data Cloud.

VIRTUAL + AUGMENTED REALITY

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) announced that, thanks to a new firmware upgrade to the PlayStation 4 console, the PlayStation VR headset now supports 360-degree YouTube videos. (The PlayStation VR is powered by the PlayStation 4’s software.) “Since launch, users have been able to watch their favorite streaming and catch-up services using PS VR to create a virtual ‘big-screen’ right in front of their eyes,” wrote SIE in a new blog post. “Now users can go a step further by experiencing YouTube’s amazing range of 360 videos via PS VR.”

Tidal, Jay Z’s music streaming service, appears to have a bit of a problem on its hands. As first reported by Norwegian newspaper Dagens Næringsliv (kudos to The Verge for noticing the story), the service has been over-reporting how many paid subs it has. According to the report, the service had 1.2 million activated accounts and 850,000 paid subs early last year. But in March of 2016, it claimed to have about 3 million subs. It was a similar story in September of 2015, when owner Jay Z tweeted that the service had “1,000,000 people and counting.” (Real number at the time: 350,000.)
