Tim Hincks is stepping down as President of Endemol Shine Group after 17 years, leaving the company in March. “Playing my part in helping build a world class content creation company across so many countries, genres and platforms has been an honor and a privilege. And working with unrivaled creative teams across the world has been a quite ridiculous amount of fun. But it really is time for a new adventure,” said Hincks.

Pop is teaming up with exec producer John Legend‘s Get Lifted Film Co. and Sharp Entertainment for a second season of Sing It On. Docu-series following new teams as they compete to win the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella debuts in the second half of 2016.

When Scandal returns on Thursday, February 11 at 9p on ABC, the show will jump six months into the future. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Tony Goldwyn explained that showrunner Shonda Rhimes is finding inspiration from the current election cycle. Spoiler alert: Mellie Grant (Bellamy Young) will be running for president amid a group of "surprising" new faces.

President Obama‘s final State of the Union address will be broadcast live tonight at 9p. On Friday, January 15, YouTube stars Destin Sandlin, Ingrid Nilsen and Adande Thorne will travel to Washington to interview the Commander in Chief in the East room of the White House, asking from fans. Questions can be submitted by using the hashtag #YouTubeAsksObama on social media. Interview streams live at 2:15p on White House YouTube channel.

At the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena on Monday, Amazon announced that Bosch will be back for Season 2 on Friday, March 4. Catastrophe‘s six-episode sophomore season bows Friday, April 8. The first season of Mad Dogs is slated for release on Friday, January 22, while The New Yorker Presents debuts three episodes on Friday, February 16, followed by two weekly, thereafter.

PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

HBO ordered Barry, a half-hour pilot starring, co-written and directed by Saturday Night Live alum Bill Hader. The comedy focuses onan ex-Marine (Hader) who works as a low-rent hitman in the Midwest. The project is part of Hader’s development deal with the network.

Netflix ordered a 13-episode reboot of Norman Lear sitcom One Day at a Time, and Lear is onboard to exec produce. The reboot of the 1975-1984 classic will be centered on a Cuban-American family.

COMING UP

In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, getTV is airing an episode of The Merv Griffin Show on Monday, January 18 at 10p, featuring Martin Luther King, Jr. King appeared on the talk show to discuss the Civil Rights Movement, as well as his views on riots, race relations and the Vietnam War. The rarely-seen extended sit-down originally aired June 6, 1967.

Five documentaries premiere on PBS‘s Independent Lens in February. No Mas Bebes, the case of Mexican immigrant women who were sterilized at a Los Angeles county hospital 40 years ago, bows Monday, February 1. A Ballerina’s Tale, centered on African American dancer Misty Copeland, airs Monday, February 8. The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution debuts Tuesday, February 16. T(Error), an espionage thriller film that goes deep inside an active FBI terror sting, bows Monday, February 22, and Wilhemina’s War, a film about a grandmother who cares for her daughter and granddaughter, both living with HIV, airs Monday, February 29.

In other PBS doc news, The Human Face of Big Data debuts Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at 10p (check local listings), examining the promises and perils of a force sweeping through our lives that is expected to have an impact 1,000 times greater than the internet.

NEW SERIES

Fusion pulls back the curtain on the global trafficking trade with investigative series The Traffickers. Hosted by British journalist Nelufar Hedayat, each one-hour episode explores the processes, personalities and routes that move goods – including precious minerals, counterfeit drugs, endangered species and even people – around the globe. Show debuts in 2016 with a special preview airing in January.

Smithsonian Channel four-parter Supercar Superbuild goes behind the scenes with the makers of Maserati, Lamborghini, Bentley and Aston Martin, as they attempt to produce the next iconic car. Debuts Sunday, February 14 at 9p.

UniMas Network‘s Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman: El Varon de la Droga premieres fall 2016. The unauthorized drama is basedon the life of the world’s most powerful drug dealer, who was captured for the third time Friday, January 8 in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, nearly six months after his escape from a maximum-security prison in Mexico.

RETURNING SERIES

Thirteen’s American Masters launches its 30th anniversary season with Mike Nichols: American Masters on Friday, January 29 at 9 p on PBS. The legendary director discusses his life and 50-year career as a performer and director. Plus, new interviews with Meryl Streep, Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks, Dustin Hoffman and many others are conducted by producer Julian Schlossberg.

Steve Rotfeld Productions‘s edu-block, Xploration Station, has been renewed by FOX Station Group and is expanding from two to three hours in 2016/17. New series being added include Xploration Experiments, hosted by YouTube star Steve Spangler, and Xploration: Nature Knows Best, an engineering and technology series. The STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) shows air mainly on FOX stations throughout the country, as well as Tribune’s FOX affiliates and Sinclair’s FOX affiliates, and are also available on Hulu and Amazon Prime.

CASTING

Jim Beaver is reprising his role as father figure to the Winchesters on Supernatural in an upcoming Season 11 episode, reports TVLine. Series returns Wednesday, January 20 at 9p on The CW.

CBS’ Supergirl has cast two DC Comics characters. Laura Vandervoort, remembered as Kara/Supergirl on Smallville, will play Indigo; while Jeff Branson (The Young and the Restless) will portray Master Jailer. Both roles are recurring.

Merrin Dungey (Alias), Larry Sullivan (CSI) and David Monahan (The Dark Knight Rises) have joined the cast of HBO limited series Big Little Lies.

SYNDICATED SERIES

Tapping In: The Happiest People and Places, a four-part adventure series hosted by Linda Swain, premieres in 80 percent of the country on major network stations. Produced by Swain Entertainment and syndicated by Steve Rotfeld Productions, it will air a new one-hour episode each quarter.

DIGITAL DOINGS

Seeso, the ad-free streaming comedy channel from NBCUniversal Digital Enterprises, airs The Guest List: Live From The Barrel House live on www.seeso.com on Wednesday, January 13 at 10p. Stand-up special hosted by Kate Willett features comics James Adomian, Chris Fairbanks, Sean Patton, Brooks Wheelan and Baron Vaughn. Kate Willett. GLOBAL GOINGS-ON

Game show Who’s Who?, created by rights owners Rose Bay Media and Noel Gay TV and distributed by KABO International, has been recommissioned by SVT in Sweden. The show, which aired on SVT for five seasons between 1998 and 2003,is scheduled to broadcast in prime time in spring 2016.

AMC Global has set premieres of new and returning original series. The Night Manager, an espionage drama starring Hugh Laurie and Tom Hiddleston, bows Monday, February 22 (local air dates and times vary by market). Season two of Fear the Walking Dead debuts on Sunday, April 10 at 9p. Talking Dead will be seen in conjunction with Fear the Walking Dead.

Hulu has acquired streaming video on-demand rights to Tiger Aspect Drama’s British comedy-drama My Mad Fat Diary. The deal includes all three seasons of the Iseries and was negotiated by Endemol Shine International.

RATINGS

The season premieres of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Man Seeking Woman hit Live+3 series rating highs on FXX. Philadelphia garnered its most-watched episode on the net ever in Total Viewers (1.34 million), while Seeking posted a series high in both Total Viewers (518,000) and A18-49 (365,000).

Discovery’s first true-crime series Killing Fields had a strong debut, opening with a .81 P25-54 rating and 1.70 million Total Viewers P2+. It was the net’s most-watched Tuesday series debut since Alaskan Bush People.

2015 was the "best year ever" for the fourth time in a row among A25-54 and W25-54, and third in total viewers for WE tv. In Live+SD prime ratings, the net grew 9 percent in total viewers year over year, while A25-54 rose 5 percent and W25-54 had a 1 percent lift. This follows gains of 37 percent in total viewers, 17 percent in A25-54 and 11 percent in W25-54 in 2014 over 2013.

The Thursday, January 7, episode of HGTV’s Flip or Flop averaged a .99 rating among viewers P25-54, making it the highest rated premiere telecast of the series ever. The episode grew 39 percent over last year among P25-54 ratings and ranked as the #4 cable program on Thursday night among P25-54 ratings. The network ranked as the #2 cable network among W25-54 and #3 cable network among P25-54 on Thursday night.

Theresa Caputo brought the spirit in the season 6B premiere of Long Island Medium. The celebrity episode was the highest-rated season premiere in four seasons with HH, all key Adults and Women demos (P/W25-54/18-49/18-34) and was the most-watched with P2+ viewers. The premiere nearly doubled its first half season premiere with W18-34.

ABC’s 2015 New Year’s Eve coverage reached 59.212 million unique Viewers 2+ during primetime and late-night, up 16 percent year over year unduplicated viewers that watched 6 minutes or more of the programming. In addition, the show’s young adult reach surged 19 percent year to year to 23.002 million A18-49. Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest – Part 1 delivered an average audience of 22.0 million Total Viewers and a 7.1 rating, 27 share among A18-49 (9.0 million). The show’s audience peaked at 12:01a with an average of 35.279 million Total Viewers, up 7 percent from the same minute last year.

EXECUTIVE MOVES

Hernan Lopez is exiting as Chief Executive Officer of Fox Networks Group. The company is reorganizing its international television business and consolidating its global channels. Jan Koeppen has been named President of Fox Networks Group Europe; Carlos Martinez has been appointed President of Fox Networks Group Latin America; and Zubin Gandevia has been named President of Fox Networks Group Asia.

Barry Ziehl has been named Senior Vice President, Public Affairs and Strategic Initiatives for Warner Bros. Entertainment. He replaces Lisa Rawlins, who retired at the end of 2015. Ziehl previously oversaw worldwide public relations and marketing for Warner Bros. Consumer Products.

Joe Whitmore has been upped to Executive Vice President, Worldwide Marketing and Creative Content at Paramount Pictures. He had been Senior Vice President of Creative Content since 2010.

CBC News named Erica Johnson as the new reporter for its investigative news segment Go Public, beginning Monday, February 1. Johnson, who is based in Vancouver, will be leaving Marketplace, CBC Television’s prime-time investigative consumer show.

Click 3X added directors Juan Delcan and Tyler Greco to Click 3X Films, its live action division. Delcan previously worked across live-action and animated projects for beauty, fashion and luxury brands. Greco helmed spots for Fortune 500 clients including AT&T, Fiat, Toyota, Nestle and the NFL.

IN MEMORIAM

Beau St. Clair, who launched Irish DreamTime with Pierce Brosnan and was his longtime producing partner, died January 9 at her Malibu home after a 10-year battle with ovarian cancer. She was 63.

Michael Galeota, who starred in Disney Channel’s The Jersey, died January 11 in his Glendale, CA, home. His death is said to be due to “natural causes,” however an autopsy is pending.  He was 31.

Trial lawyer and entertainment counsel Michael Howard Diamond, who worked closely with producer Brandon Tartikoff, died in his Hancock park home on January 9 following a battle with cancer. He was 73.
