Fig. 1 Man-like petroglyphs

The most cited evidence on which the EU hypothesis rests are petroglyphs or rock drawings from around the world.  Examples of one of the most common themes are shown in Figure 1, from a scientific paper .”Characteristics for the Occurrence of a High-Current,Z-Pinch Aurora as Recorded in Antiquity” by Anthony L. Peratt, Fellow, IEEE.

Cyclic Catastrophism, the subject of this blog, is based on ancient texts, primarily, but not limited to, the Rg Veda, Hindu and Egyptian. These all consistently lead to the idea that a living planet, the current Mars when it still had its solid core Mercury, was repeatedly captured in a geostationary orbit of the Earth and during this period lost all of its water, atmosphere, biosphere and many minerals from deep within it which were blasted to the Earth. Having received all of the observational data through the ancient texts, has made it possible to understand the  astrophysics involved over the last fifteen years, as described by the many posts (essays) on this site and four books: Firmament, Chaos, Peleh: Hidden Knowledge, and Egyptian Astrophysics.

The Rg Veda refers to this proximate planet as Indra (and Yama-Yami), whose ‘home on Earth’ (geostationary orbit) was above Mt. Kailash in the Transhimalayas. Yama-Yami, part green (vegetation) and red (volcanism) is said to have two insatiable dogs with four eyes and wide nostril which guard the road to his abode, consistent with the two small satellites of Mars today.  Indra was most famous for battling the Vritras (confiners) characterized as serpents lying in the mountain valleys, thereby ‘releasing the waters’. This implies that during each fourteen year visit to the Earth, the forces unleashed by this massive planet actually broke up and melted a vast volume of the mountain glaciers in the region. This involved extended stays, powerful tidal effects, as well as explosive power. To accomplish this feat, Indra used several adjunct deities: the Vayu, the Maruts and Parjanya. The Vayu were clouds of red dust which also brought manna, even smells to the Earth. More significant, to the subject of this post were the Maruts.

The Maruts comprise a multitude of gods. In the Vedas they are the constant companions of Indra. They are also said to be the sons of Rudra, a less popular deity associated with priori-Mars, but one which forms an important link to the later destructive Hindu deity Siva (Shiva). This common association of the unique Maruts with Indra and Rudra is one factor linking both them to the planet Mars. The following quote describes the Maruts:

“ They are youthful warriors, but they are also geniuses of the thunderstorm. For whereas the interpretation of Indra as god of the storm is frequently forced, the close connection of the Maruts with thunder and lightning, wind and rain, cannot be denied… They hold the lightning in their hands and the lightning is their spear.Their golden wheeled chariots gleam in the lightning as they rush forth like boisterous winds…They love to deck themselves with golden ornaments …  They are irresponsible and gay, yet wrathful as serpents. They are always present at the slaying of Vritra and they egg great Indra on with their songs.”

In this interpretation the author used the terms ‘thunderstorm’ and ‘lightning’ because they comprised his experience, but the true meaning was ‘thunderbolts.’ Two additiona quotes from the Rig Veda:

“ that brilliant and mighty band of leading lights…whose arms are decorated with bracelets (quoits) … given to roaring, potent, dispensing treasures…infinite in greatness.”

“ This wide-extended Earth is for the Maruts; the spacious heaven is for the spreading winds; the paths of the firmament are provided for their course”.

The physical explanation of the Maruts is as follows: Mars was greatly disturbed by the enormous gravitational field of the Earth when the two planets orbited one another, and many enormous volcanic vents were opened on the surface of Mars. At times of alignments of the pair with the Moon, Sun, or proto-Venus when near conjunction, the vents erupted with explosive force, expelling great masses of hot rocks at high velocity. Many of these glowing bodies were ejected from the largest volcanic vent at the north pole of Mars which remained facing the Earth during each 14.4 year encounter. Some followed a trajectory to the nearby Earth, displaying a certain golden beauty and graceful motion as they arced silently through space. Elsewhere in the Vedas, they were said to resemble glowing cinders being expelled from a burning log. As they arced through space between the planets, visible rings of ionized gas formed , and they appeared to be donning bracelets.

The Maruts were intimately related to the Parjanya, which were thunderbolts.  Parjanya destroys the demons that withhold the waters. The whole creation fears his mighty stroke.  It was not mere lightning, with which these rural people were quite familiar, but an electrical discharge of such enormous power, as has never been experienced in modern times. The ‘shorting out’ of the ionosphere magnified the energy of the meteorite impact exponentially.

In Worlds in Collision Velikovsky quotes an ancient myths in which it is stated that when some thunderbolts struck the Earth, entire mountain ranges disappeared, and others were thrust upward instantaneously. The onslaught of these Maruts, concentrated in the Himalayas, broke up the glaciers while at the same time the tidal force of Mars melted sub-surface rock, drawing the resulting magma into fractures in the rocks,  heated them and melted more ice. In fact, a large portion of Tibet remains underlain with an unexplained layer of molten rock to this day. The number of these 14.4-year (a manvantara) encounters is stated in the Rig Veda:

“Indra, unopposable, slew ninety-nine Vrtras ..”

The Petroglyphs

Because of the presence of the greatly distended anomalous mass, now called the Tharsis Bulge on Mars equator, the spin axis of the rigid outer shell of the planet was forced to point toward the Earth while in geostationary orbit.  However the solid iron core and thus its magnetic field remained perpendicular to the plane of the solar system, as did the Earth’s geomagnetic field.  During the encounters the belts of charged particles surrounding both planets would be facing one another, as shown in Figure 2.

Fig 2 Mars blasted hot glowing rocks to Earth which caused ionosphere to discharge at impact.

When large hot glowing bodies (20 km), Maruts, were shot from the deep volcanic vent at the north pole of Mars, they would almost certainly have shorted Mars ionosphere to its surface.  Electrical effects have been noted in descripitons of the Vedic Purusha (Hindu Brahma), the hardened lava column at the north pole of Mars which attained altitudes of 2000 km above the surface.  These discharges could have formed the raised ‘arms’ of the petroglyph-men. The rings around the petroglyph-men, being between the ‘arms’ and ‘legs’, may have been interactions with the belts of ionized particles, either around Mars or the Earth.  Note that rings are a unique aspect of the Maruts in the  Rg Veda. The thunderbolts occurred on Earth when an incoming body shorted the natural spherical capacitor between the ionosphere and the Earth. These were mighty blasts so powerful  that they literally broke up the enormous Himalayan glaciers.  The Vedas describe the large chunks that were subsequently carried down with the melt water.  A normal lightning bolt would hardly even make a mark on such a glacier.  Those discharges might have triggered return pulses back up the ionozed path all the way through the radiation belt of Mars to its surface.  These could have formed the man-shaped petroglyphs, even including the rings shown in some of these.

Petroglyph Dating

Cyclic Catastrophism constrains the dates of the thunderbolts between 3700 and 687 BC, at which date the terrestrial planets left the vicinity of the Earth and settled into their current orbits over the next few centuries. It seems that the Vedic people, living closest to the impact area, wrote more about the Parjanya than other cultures.  One exception being the ‘blast from heaven’ which destroyed the Assyrian army of Sennacherib, probably at Mars final departure from the Earth,  But because they were so close, the Vedic people probably did not have the perspective required to see the whole petroglyph-men shaped image that people more distant, such as did the Amerind tribes, who could see the planet on the northern horizon.

Everywhere science is enriched by unscientific methods and unscientific results, … the separation of science and non-science is not only artificial but also detrimental to the advancement of knowledge. If we want to understand nature, if we want to master our physical surroundings, then we must use all ideas, all methods, and not just a small selection of them.    Paul Feyerabend
