In just two years, the Uptown development transformed a stretch of tired businesses and craggy parking lots into a bustling mix of new housing, shops, restaurants and galleries in Cleveland’s University Circle.

Learn how that unique project came together in a panel discussion featuring Uptown stakeholders Friday, Oct. 9, from 1:30 to 3 p.m., at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) Cleveland (11400 Euclid Ave.). Steven Litt, art and architecture critic for The Plain Dealer/cleveland.com, will moderate the discussion, which is free and open to the public.

Panelists will delve into the innovative public-private collaboration that created the popular residential, arts and entertainment district and celebrate its distinction as a Silver Medalist for the 2015 Rudy Bruner Award for Urban Excellence.

Panelists are:

Latisha James, executive director for Local Government and Community Relations at Case Western Reserve University

Lillian Kuri, program director for Architecture, Urban Design and Sustainable Development at the Cleveland Foundation

Anne-Marie Lubenau, director of the Rudy Bruner Award for Urban Excellence at The Rudy Bruner Foundation

Chris Ronayne, president of University Circle Inc.

Jill Snyder, executive director of MOCA

A competitive national biennial award, the Rudy Bruner Award for Urban Excellence recognizes innovative thinking in urban environments. Lubenau will present the Uptown District’s Silver Medal to Case Western Reserve University.
