TIME RIGHT TIME TO LOOK AT GROWTH OPPORTUNITIES, SAYS BANK

Stand 3E85

Transport and logistics experts at Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banks say that road transport firms need to be looking at expansion opportunities now in a bid to capitalise on the expected growth in the industry in the year ahead.

Matt Smith, Head of Transport, believes that as official economic indicators show an increase in GDP, road hauliers, transport providers and others involved in the supply chain should be gearing up for increased activity. He said, “In recent years, the road haulage and transport sectors have not had their challenges to seek. The recession saw a marked decrease in the number of HGV miles covered as spending retracted.”

Fuel price volatility has reduced in the last 12 months. However, operators and customers should formalise fuel surcharge agreements now to avoid future margin pressures.

Matt continued, “Fuel continues to be a large cost for road transport providers so it is important to have some degree of foresight and control over costs. We have experienced greater demand for fuel hedging products, particularly from tourism operators or public transport”.

Economic conditions mean that operators have delayed investment in renewal of their fleets and the average fleet age has crept up in an effort to preserve cash. However, Matt believes the trend is reversing. “We’re working with a growing number of customers who are putting in place lines of credit to renew and increase fleets, preparing themselves for increased activity levels or servicing new contracts.”

TYRE SEALANTS ARE HERE TO STAY, SAYS AIR-SEAL PRODUCTS

Stand 4D21

Air-Seal Products has been successfully selling its range of high quality tyre sealants around the world for 14 years. Its sealant range is NATO-approved and currently used in over 31 different countries, by many high profile customers including United Nations forces. Air-Seal Products is still sole supplier to The Royal Mail.

A decade ago, tyre sealants found application in fleets exposed to hazardous environments such as landfills and construction sites. Sealants were only used to seal or prevent punctures. Few intermediate and long-haul fleets had significant problems with puncture-caused deflations, so they were not candidates for sealant application.

However, fuel and tyre prices have more than doubled. Tyre manufacturers have proven and quantified the impact of under-inflation on fuel economy and tyre mileage and sophisticated fleet managers are looking to find and all ways of improving the average fuel economy of their fleets.

BEVAN AND A&R DOUBLE-UP FOR AFTERCARE

Stand 4K20

Bevan Group and A&R Vehicle Services will promote their 24-hour back-up in a joint presentation at the CV Show. Established suppliers to some of the best-known names on Britain’s roads, the two businesses have been formally tied since Bevan acquired a stake in A&R last summer.

Bevan Group is best known as a builder of dry freight curtainside and box bodies, also offering insulated bodies for temperature-controlled applications. Its rapid response mobile aftercare service covers truck and van bodies with 2,400 vehicles on a repair and maintenance contract or pay-as-you-go basis.

Aftercare Manager, Simon Dryburgh, says, “Operators value the fact that our highly-trained mobile technicians are able to fix the majority of problems at the roadside or customers’ premises. The loss of a tail-lift, or jammed roller shutter door, effectively renders a vehicle useless. As vehicles are purpose-built for the job, operators can’t simply hire a replacement so our service represents a big saving in all-important downtime.”

A&R Vehicle Services is fully equipped to undertake major accident repairs that cannot be completed at the roadside or operators’ premises, as well offering refurbishment programmes for single vehicles to large fleets. It recently launched a night shift to meet growth in demand.

A&R Managing Director, George Simpson, says, “The partnership with Bevan represents a big adventure for our companies, and we’re both winning new orders for the extended range of services we’re now able to offer our customer bases.”

GOODYEAR SAYS “WE TAKE YOU FURTHER”

Stand 5G80

Following the successful launch of its new KMax and FuelMax products last September, Goodyear’s CV Show stand will highlight these products as well as its service development programmes designed to support customers’ businesses to be more successful.

The Goodyear KMax range has been developed for improved mileage performance with no compromise on other important criteria such as fuel efficiency and traction. The Goodyear FuelMax range is for the operator seeking to optimise fuel efficiency with good mileage.

With fleet operators mindful of keeping costs low, Goodyear acknowledges that fuel-efficient tyres are very much in demand and believes that its FuelMax tyre can offer substantial savings to fleets.

Marc Preedy, Commercial Director at Goodyear, said, “The Goodyear FuelMax tyre is a perfect example of our ability to decrease a fleet’s cost of ownership. The steer tyre was awarded an A-grade in fuel economy, the first in the market and an achievement we are very proud of. Label grades can point to considerable fuel savings for fleets. For example, the amount that can be saved on a fleet of 50 trucks with the FuelMax tyre, instead of an EU Tyre Label D-grade rating, is in excess of £200,000.”

THE NEW ORDER FOR WORKING VANS

Stand 4E120

A high-performance Italian range is launching at the CV Show to help speed the working day. It’s not a supercar with a utility body tacked on but an order system racking that will transform the working van into a supervan.

Order System is distributed in the UK by Camberley-based JNL Engineering which already holds major UK concessions, including the sole distribution of all VM Motori diesel engines and spare parts.

JNL Managing Director Qumrul Khan, an engineer with many years’ experience, is impressed by the build quality and crash test performance of Order System and plans to roll it out across the UK through a network of fitting stations. “Too many tradespeople waste time every day searching through vans as they try to find tools or odd parts that are essential yet easy to lose,” he explains.

Order System is designed to be light yet strong and is constructed from aluminium to minimise the effect on the van’s overall payload. However, it still offers the capacity to carry everything in its right place so that the working day is more efficient. The system comprises built in modules that can be fitted in seven days from ordering, with a wide range of possible permutations that can be tailored to limited budgets.
