MAGENTA TECHNOLOGY TO LAUNCH MAXOPTRA FOR DISTRIBUTION AND SERVICE

Stand 3H75

Magenta will launch its next generation Maxoptra solution for distribution and service businesses at the CV Show this year. Supported globally, the improved version provides a converged and scalable solution with built-in optimisation for routing, scheduling, tracking and telematics, making it an effective tool for mobile workforce management. Maxoptra offers all the important functionality that larger, expensive solutions offer, but in a cost-effective subscription model that provides great ROI, regardless of the size of any operation.

Magenta has designed and developed its Maxoptra solutions in close collaboration with many distribution and field services organisations worldwide to build the right solution to help and grow businesses. Magenta understands the current business needs for a more holistic solution for mobile workforces with ‘anytime, anywhere’ access to provide improved visibility to enable informed decision-making.

An easy-to-use platform, it simplifies the complexity of increasing customer demand for the delivery of goods and services, implementing narrow delivery appointment times, optimised scheduling and balancing routine jobs with unexpected jobs. With Maxoptra, distribution and service companies will no longer require multiple solution providers, with the solution requiring little or no investment in integration. Magenta will help customers replace older systems and wasteful paper processes with cost-effective PDAs and real-time tracking technologies.

JOST HELPS REDUCE FUEL CONSUMPTION

Stand 5D60

A highly-efficient airflow system called SDR is available now from JOST and will be a key focus on its stand at this year’s CV Show. The patented SDR roof diffuser is an aerodynamic airflow system that reduces the air turbulence at the rear of the vehicle by more than 50%. The air flowing over the roof is directed through the JOST SDR diffuser, reducing significantly the drag effect caused by turbulent air.

“This creates less air swirl and air resistance and results in substantial fuel savings of up to 4%. The initial cost of the SDR roof diffuser is recovered after only a few months,” says JOST UK Sales Director, Michael Johnson.

As well as the remarkable savings on consumption, the SDR also reduces CO2 emissions and helps to protect the environment. Two more benefits of JOST’s SDR roof diffuser resulting from the low air turbulence behind the vehicle are most noticeable during bad weather: The rear of the vehicle remains cleaner and the road view for following vehicles is improved, as less spray mist develops behind the vehicle. The SDR can be installed easily on the rear frame of a truck body, trailer or semi-trailer and retro-fit installation is also possible.

HOSE DEVELOPMENT BEING DRIVEN BY EURO-6 LEGISLATION

Stand 5H142

The enforcement of the Euro-6 legislation currently being introduced for various vehicle sectors is pushing ideas and development to move faster in the UK manufacturing sector. Goodflex will be showcasing its Euro-6 design and material developments at the CV Show this year.

Goodflex Rubber has been working alongside engineers to assist with the redevelopment required for Euro-6. In many cases, alterations have led to power packs running at higher temperatures that, in turn, put greater strain on materials used in the engine bay. Many Goodflex customers have taken this opportunity to upgrade the materials specified while altering the designs.

Traditional rubber products tend to use EPDM, HNBR and PVC/NBR; however these have now been superseded by modern alternatives such as PEPDM, ECO and AEM, which offer better thermal and resistance properties. Goodflex Managing Director, Mark Dufty, said, “We have been conducting our own R&D work to develop our build processes, material options and tooling designs to be able to support our customers with their redevelopment work for Euro-6. It has been challenging, but we have certainly made significant improvements to our processes and expanded our product capabilities.”

AERODYNAMICS IN ACTION

Stand 4H50

At this year’s CV Show, Hatcher Components will demonstrate the fuel-saving benefits of its advanced vehicle aerodynamics solutions. Using a miniature wind machine, it will simulate the conditions for a vehicle travelling at speed to show how a simple air management conversion kit can reduce wind resistance and improve fuel efficiency.

The aerodynamic drag co-efficient of a moving vehicle can have a significant effect on fuel consumption, particularly at motorway speeds. For a typical commercial vehicle, at a speed of 60mph, about half the power of the engine is used just to overcome wind resistance. Hatcher’s industry-leading air management kits dramatically improve the aerodynamic profiling of the vehicle.

The range of options includes the innovative ‘Freddie’ spoiler, developed in association with aerodynamic experts at Cranfield University. The unique design of the ‘Active Freddie’ recognises the cross winds encountered in a typical journey, ensuring optimum performance is achieved over a much wider range of ‘yaw angles’ than a conventional roof deflector. The latest addition to the range is the ‘Under-trailer Freddie’ that is ideal for heavy goods vehicles, including refrigerated trucks, curtainsiders and van trailers. Its unique design is based on a parabolic curve, providing a shaped fairing that sweeps rearwards from the landing legs.

Hatcher offers fuel saving devices for a wide range of commercial vehicle marques, including DAF, Iveco, Mercedes-Benz, Renault, Scania and Volvo. Regardless of fleet or vehicle size, there’s a solution that Hatcher claims will deliver better fuel efficiency cost-effectively.

TYRE WEAR AND PRESSURE DIAGNOSTICS FROM RL AUTOMOTIVE

Stand 4H02

RL Automotive serves the tyre aftersales market and specialises in tyre wear and pressure diagnostic equipment and will demonstrate its latest products at the CV Show.

TAC-Scan uses a laser to measure the profile of a tyre very accurately. It is British-made and designed and was developed for Formula 1 racing, proving so accurate that it could predict tyre failure to a single lap. It has now been developed for the global commercial market for car, van and truck tyres. The equipment allows tread and pressure data to be collected and downloaded easily, quickly and efficiently. The software suite allows individual vehicle reports to be produced, as well as fleet audit reports, providing vital information when trying to reduce fuel consumption and tyre expenditure as well as diagnosing inflation and alignment problems.

For commercial vehicles, RL Automotive has developed a robust, retro-fit system that is proving very successful. It is accurate, easy to install and, most importantly, easy to change sensor locations when changing a wheel. Information can be monitored in real time from a remote location via the mobile phone network. This is combined with GPS so that tyre pressure and temperature can be monitored and if an alert is activated, the vehicle can be instantly located with alerts being instantly texted or e-mailed as appropriate.
