Job Summary:

The Digital Content Producer contributes to the overall marketing and communications efforts and strategies of Alumni Relations and Development (ARD). This position is responsible for developing and maintaining a program of visual assets for ARD’s web and social media channels. Those assets include videos, podcasts, and graphics. This position works collaboratively with other members of the Marketing and Communications team, as well as with staff throughout ARD and across the University, to ensure all digital and video assets meet the division’s broader communications and marketing goals, and ensure a cohesive image of Northwestern.

Specific Responsibilities:

Creation of Web Graphics and Visual Assets

• Strategically conceptualize, design and execute a wide range of multimedia solutions in support of ARD marketing and communications programs

• Create original web graphics and visual assets for web and social media

• Develop design mockups for proof of concept and approval process

• Design engaging digital creative for use across multiple interactive platforms from basic microsites and landing pages to full websites, ads, and social media networks

• Develop web graphics and visual assets such as banners and emails

• Partner with Digital Communications team and designers on the day-to-day creative updates and site changes

• In addition to creating new assets, translate existing creative into a digital environment that ensures a cohesive image for Northwestern among alumni, donors, parents and other key audiences

Video and Podcast Production

• Record and edit videos and podcasts that will be featured on ARD websites and in multimedia presentations. Video topics include campus events, alumni events, alumni profiles, student interviews and donor stories. Podcasts consist of alumni profiles and interviews

• Coordinate all aspects of multimedia production from intake through completion, including scheduling, storyboarding, equipment management, capture, editing and distribution

• Collaborate with the writers on the Marketing and Communications team to develop interview questions and scripts for the videos and podcasts

• Handle post-production including collaborative editing and motion graphics

• Develop platforms to distribute video externally (e.g. YouTube)

• Coordinate with external video firms on large video projects

• Securing Other Visual Assets

• Serve as the creative liaison to other Northwestern departments with video/audio capabilities

• Leverage existing b-roll and assets to include in ARD materials

• Share ARD’s library of visual assets with other Northwestern departments

Project Management

• Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications team and internal clients to brainstorm and develop the strategy and creative direction for digital and video projects

• Work with Marketing and Communications team members to establish and adhere to project timelines

• Ensure project solutions meet defined goals

• Follow graphic design standards

• Keep abreast of new developments and trends in digital communications and video production. Educate team members and clients on these new developments where appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Interactive Arts and Media, or related fields

• Minimum of two years of experience in digital design and video production

• Relevant and up-to-date online portfolio

• Advanced proficiency with Adobe CS software with a focus on Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign and After Effects

• Experience creating films from start to finish as a solo operator ‘ including scripting, filming, editing and post-production

• Experience with interactive web technologies (e.g. blogging, podcasts, social media etc.)

• Understanding of the online video environment and platforms (iTunes, YouTube)

• Excellent video editing skills (in Final Cut Pro or a similar package)

• Excellent interpersonal skills, including diplomacy and discretion, and the ability to liaise effectively with staff and external individuals at any level of seniority

• Working knowledge and understanding of best practices for overall website design, including usability, industry standards, architecture and navigation

• Familiarity with SEO best practices

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in fundraising, non-profit marketing, and/or higher education advancement

• Experience of directing others in producing video, and presenting in front of camera

• Strong knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript

• Ability to turn intellectually demanding subject matter into video broadcasts
