The University of Connecticut’s Office of University Communications seeks a Junior Web Applications Developer to work in a collaborative team environment designing, developing, analyzing and maintaining effective web-based computer applications to facilitate and expedite the processing of complex academic and administrative data. Responsibilities include designing program structure and creating program code in a language able to be processed by computer, from a logical flowchart or other narrative of program’s specification; creating operational job streams by assembling required processing steps in logical order to accomplish desired results; and following testing plan devised by supervisor or manager to test coded program, using actual or sample input data, under the supervision of senior programmer/analyst or manager.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree in a computer-related field with at least one year of programming experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience; a demonstrated strong knowledge of HTML5, JavaScript, and CSS; knowledge of PHP or other object-oriented web programming language used in web application development; demonstrated ability to translate assigned programs into operating programs and preparing detailed program documentation; demonstrated abilities in analytical reasoning and logical problem solving; knowledge of desktop applications such as Microsoft Office; good written and oral communications skills.

Preferred Qualifications: Job history indicating growth and development in the field; working knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL); experience in managing web, file, and application server environments; experience in managing desktop computer environments; computer networking experience; experience in developing for WordPress or Drupal CMS’; experience in mobile app or web development.

Appointment Terms: This is a full-time position.
