Eva Presenhuber gallery in Zurich hosts an exhibition with new works by Scottish artist Douglas Gordon. The first floor of the Löwenbräu Areal space presents the encyclopedic multi-channel video installation Pretty much every film and video from about 1992 until now (2013), composed of 101 monitors piled up on beer crates and showing all the video works produced by Gordon since 1992. The installation is an open work to which new videos are constantly added; among them there are recent films like The End of Civilisation (2012) as well as iconic pieces such as 24 Hour Psycho (1993), Between Darkness and Light (After William Blake) (1997) and Play Dead; Real Time (2003). The work takes the shape of an encyclopedic sculpture and is reminiscent of a private video archive.
The installation Everything is nothing without its reflection; A Photographic Pantomime (2013) is on show at the gallery’s second floor. The work is made up of mirrors and 360 photographs – travel photos, shots of landscapes, snapshots and private pictures; each photograph is accompanied by a mirror of the same size on the opposite side of the exhibition space.
